Chamber Event: Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Lamb: State should remove barriers for oil and gas industry

Keeping the oil and gas industry home with incentives, was a key message of Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb’s speech Wednesday at the National Weather Center in Norman.A four-month legislative session will always have few missed opportunities, Lamb said, speaking to Norman business leaders at the Chamber of Commerce Legislative luncheon. Little Rock Chamber: Arkansas Venture Center Launches Pre-Flight Accelerator Course

The Arkansas Venture Center announced Tuesday the launch of a "pre-accelerator" course for entrepreneurs designed to "fast track their ideas to market."
Backed by the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Pre-Flight will be held on Monday nights over a 14-week period beginning Sept. 8 from the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the program. Read more: Arkansas Business

Michigan Chamber Endorsement: Dave Trott topples Bentivolio in Michigan race

Attorney Dave Trott easily beat out Rep. Kerry Bentivolio for the GOP nomination in Michigan’s 11th District on Tuesday, potentially reclaiming a House seat for the party’s establishment wing and making the tea party-aligned Bentivolio the third House incumbent to be defeated in a primary. Chamber news: Failure Of Sprint Merger Bid Leaves Kansas City Looking to Future

The death of a merger proposal between Sprint and T-Mobile may have been bad news for the Kansas City company — stock prices dropped 19 percent Wednesday. But the news has some locals breathing a sigh of relief. It means Sprint is staying put, for now. Read more: KCUR 89.3

 

Rochester (Minnesota) Area Chamber of Commerce hires new president

The Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce has hired Robert (Rob) Miller, former CEO/President of the Arizona Trade Exchange in Mesa, Arizona, as its new president.
The hiring of Miller is the culmination of a six-month search for a successor to former President John Wade. Read more: PostBulletin.com

Syracuse Nebraska Chamber members discuss new mine

A new Niobium mine in Elk Creek was part of the discussion at the August Chamber of Commerce meeting. Niobium is a material that strengthens steel, and there are no mines in the United States. If this mine plans move forward, it could mean growth for Syracuse and other surrounding towns.  An estimated 600-1000 construction workers could arrive in the area to begin construction as soon as spring. Susan Redden: Local Joplin, Missouri lawmakers get high scores in chamber ranking

Though they didn’t go along with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry on one major issue — expanding Medicaid — Joplin area legislators were in lock step with the statewide organization on economic issues during the most recent legislative session.

That’s according to the recently released “2014 Vote Record,” an annual ranking by the chamber designed to give the business community a measure of how lawmakers voted on a list of economic issues.

Three local lawmakers — Sen. Ron Richard, Joplin; Rep. Charlie Davis, Webb City; and Rep. Bill Lant, Pineville — received 100 percent ratings, “voting in support of Missouri employers in every case,” according to Dan Mehan, Missouri chamber president and CEO. Read more: Joplin Globe

Morton Marcus to talk with Gary, Indiana chamber

A well-known economist who's known for his humor will address the Gary Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 11.
Morton Marcus, an economist and former Indiana University professor, will give a talk at noon at Majestic Star Events Center, One Buffington Harbor Drive. He will discuss how the private sector can improve public safety in Gary, and what business leaders can do to attract more companies to the city. Read more: NWI.com


Jamestown Chamber Event: Celebration of statehood: Picnic, street dance planned to celebrate N.D.’s 125th year as U.S. state

The Young Professionals of Jamestown and the Frontier Village Association will sponsor a picnic and street dance this Saturday at the “World’s Largest Buffalo” to celebrate North Dakota’s 125th year of statehood.

“We’re looking forward to just a fun celebration as a community, a fun celebration for the first 125 years of statehood,” said Searle Swedlund, executive director of Jamestown Tourism, which also had a hand in setting up the event. There are 150 tickets available for the meal at the Jamestown Tourism office, the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce or from any YPJ member.Read more: Jamestown Sun
