Don’t go thinking this could be easy. The pieces in a proposed Kansas City urban renewal plan certainly look as promising as any seen yet by some Warren Buffett-backed consultants who have seen real neighborhood transformation work. “This is as exciting as they come,” Greg Giornelli told the Kansas City school board this week. Giornelli, president of the Atlanta-based Purpose Built Communities, is helping Kansas City’s Urban Neighborhood Initiative foster plans to remake the heart of the city’s urban core. The initiative, one of the “Big 5” ideas in the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s 2011 vision for prosperity, has a lot of advantages over other cities’ renewal projects, he said. Jan Kruchoski to lead Minnesota state chamber board
Jan Kruchoski will lead the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce board of directors as its 2014-15 chair. She lives in Chanhassen and is a managing principal at CliftonLarsonAllen in Minneapolis. Illinois issues center stage at Naperville Chamber event
Illinois Minority House Leader Jim Durkin (R-Westchester) spoke at the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Lunch this week, and gave an update on activities in Springfield. Durkin said that the rough and tumble of politics in the state capital often produces friction that leaves many legislators unable to mend fences across the aisle and sometimes even with members of their own party.

Grand Island Chamber news: State official says Nebraska’s economy continuing to grow

Former Downtown Des Moines Chamber Executive Director, startup advocate to lead Iowa tech group
Brian Waller, a tech business advocate and startup champion, will
take over as president of the state's technology business group next
month.
The Technology Association of Iowa announced Wednesday that
Waller, 34, would take over Sept. 29 as president of the industry
group. Leann Jacobsen will step down after nine years on the job to
