Indiana Chamber of Commerce Creates Health Initiative

A new initiative in the Indiana Chamber of Commerce is aimed at creating a healthy state. It's part of their new plan for this year. Chamber executives focus on overall wellness of employees around Indiana.
Kevin Brinegar says the chamber will focus on four critical areas. Those include attracting talent, a healthy business climate, a creative culture, and good infrastructure, "Get them focused on how they can help their employees become more healthy which will positively impact healthcare costs and our competitive position because Indiana as a whole tends to be a less healthy state." North Dakota Chamber business issues: Open and Fair Competition at Risk with Project Labor Agreements

In 2009, President Obama issued an executive order on Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), encouraging federal agencies to require labor contracts on projects costing more than $25M. Since then, it has been expanded to look at the feasibility of PLAs on a state level and any project using federal funds. North Dakota has the opportunity to enact a law mandating that the state government remain neutral and ensure government contracts remain open to all contractors on government construction projects.
The Greater North Dakota Chamber is against requiring PLAs. North Dakota should have open and fair competition for government construction projects. Government-mandated PLAs increase the cost of projects. Our legislature should assure the citizens of North Dakota that government construction projects are done in an open and fair way and at the best price.
The Chamber is not against organized companies bidding for work in a competitive manner. In fact, we encourage them to bid on any project they are qualified to perform in North Dakota. We are against limiting competition and free enterprise by instituting any governmental controls that favor one company over another in North Dakota. North Dakota is a right to work state; a law requiring contracts to remain open to all contractors would ensure that those principles will be upheld. Read more: Greater North Dakota Chamber
