Former Illinois chamber head to head logistics panel


Doug Whitley, former head of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, was named  executive director of a leadership council that  focuses on improving the movement of goods through the metro area’s transportation system.
Whitley will head the Supply Chain Innovation Network of Chicago, started late last year by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and World Business Chicago, the not-for-profit business development agency.  Read more: Chicago Tribune


Wisconsin: RDA, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce announce new downtown business manager

Plymouth’s Chamber of Commerce and the Plymouth RDA recently announced the hiring of Randy Schwoerer as the new downtown business manager. Schwoerer will assist businesses in downtown Plymouth in creating events to bring consumers to the district as well as work to attract other new businesses to the downtown area. Businesses that Stand to Benefit from Immigration Reform

The U.S. is a nation of immigrants. It’s been that way since its founding, and it continues to this day, as foreign-born citizens account for a significant number of the more than 300 million Americans. Indeed, the U.S. is home to more than one-fifth of the world’s total immigrant population, according to the Migration Policy Institute.

Chamber Marketing: Top ten reasons to visit Berne for Swiss Days



Swiss Days returned to Berne, Indiana on July 25-26. The Berne Chamber of Commerce sent along the top ten reasons to pay a visit to the festival this Friday and Saturday.
10) Parade - It features bands, floats, mascots, and local businesses.
9) Little Miss Swiss Days - Come out to see who will be crowned this year’s Little Miss Swiss Days. The girls will model their outfits and answer some questions, or do a talent for the judges to see who will come out on top. The winner will be featured in the parade on Saturday riding on the back of a convertible.

What makes a Chamber Contest Prize effective? Deloitte Analysis of Government Competitions: Craft of Incentive Prize Design

Federal challenge and prize competitions are in the news again.Our colleagues across government participated in research that resulted in a new report released June 19 from Deloitte University Press, The Craft of Prize Design: Lessons from the public sector
In the last five years, incentive prizes have transformed from an exotic open innovation tool to a proven innovation strategy for the public, private, and philanthropic sectors. Incentive prizes seem deceptively simple: Identify a problem, create and publicize a prize-based challenge for solving that problem, sign up diverse participants, and offer a reward to the winner. In practice, designing prizes that target the right problem, attract the most capable participants, and capture the imagination of the public to successfully achieve a desired outcome involves a complex set of design choices. This report aims to help prize designers organize and master those choices.
Cristin Dorgelo, Assistant Director for Grand Challenges at the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy writes:

Chamber Event: 30th Annual Chautauqua in the Park Being Planned

The 30th Annual Chautauqua in the Park will be held September 6-7, 2014 at Simpson Park in Chillicothe, Missouri. This annual event, sponsored by the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce and the Chillicothe Area Arts Council, and presented by Hedrick Medical Center, has a wide variety of entertainment, activities, artists, crafts and food. Vendor registration is now open for this two-day juried fine arts and crafts show. Each year, the Chautauqua has over 100 booths representing many different types of crafts and art, as well as food and farmers’ market offerings. Read more: Chillicothe News

Minnesota Chamber Event: Tax bill presentation scheduled for this month

From 8-9 a.m. Aug. 15, State Senator Vicki Jensen and The Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce invite the public to hear a presentation from the Minnesota Department of Revenue Commissioner, Myron Frans. Frans has been a tax attorney in private practice for 27 years, most recently as a senior tax partner at the law firm of Faegre & Benson in Minneapolis. Read more: Faribault Daily News
