Good morning #ChamberWorld! It's going to be a GREAT day!

Longview Chamber, Asheville Area Chamber, Murray-Calloway County Chamber and Greater Louisville Inc. are the four national 2019 Chamber of Year Winners

Last week at the annual #ACCEAwards Show, nearly one thousand chamber professionals and friends of the industry gathered at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center in downtown Long Beach, California, to celebrate winners of many special awards, including Chamber of the Year.
Chamber of the Year, sponsored by MemberClicks, is the most prestigious and competitive award presented by ACCE and is the only globally-recognized industry award that honors top chambers of commerce. This year's winners (sorted by category) are:
Category One:
Category Two:
Category Three:
Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce
Asheville, North Carolina
Category Four:
Greater Louisville Inc.
Louisville, Kentucky
Those honored with the Chamber of the Year designation have demonstrated organizational strength and made an impact on key community priorities, such as education, transportation, business development and quality of life.
Chambers of commerce interested in competing for the award first must qualify by participating in a vigorous multi-stage process. Organizations entering the Chamber of the Year competition must meet minimum thresholds in at least three of five key performance areas, including net revenue, net assets, membership account retention, and membership dollar retention.
Qualifying for Chamber of the Year is a rigorous process. Chambers compete based on meeting key performance criteria on the ACCE Annual Operations Survey. Qualifying chambers enter the competition with a written application addressing all aspects of organizational operation and programmatic work. Applications are scored by peer chamber executives to determine finalists. Winners are selected from among finalists based on an in-person interview before a panel of experienced chamber professionals.

Celebrating Communications Excellence

On July 15, at the #ACCEAwards Show in Long Beach, California, three organizations — Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce (Ga.), Greater Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce (Ark.) and Greater Fort Wayne Inc. (Ind.) — were recognized as this year’s Best in Show winners in ACCE’s Awards for Communications Excellence competition.
They represent the finest entries in each of the three total annual budget categories: under $1 million, $1 to $3 million and above $3 million.

ACCE’s Awards for Communications Excellence program is designed to showcase top communications and marketing work of chambers of commerce and similar organizations. Several thousand award entries have been submitted since the launch of the organization’s Awards for Communications Excellence, which is now in its thirty-fifth year.
“Those involved in marketing and communications for chamber organizations must develop materials that can compete with Fortune 500 companies, with half the staff and budget,” says ACCE President and CEO Sheree Anne Kelly. “These annual awards provide a way to recognize the innovative work that chambers across the world are creating. It is not every day that a company’s communications work not only benefits the organization but is creates materials that advance the community or region that they support.
A panel of communications and marketing executives from six North American chambers of commerce evaluated entries, which were organized by category — based on the chamber’s annual budget — and entry type: advertising and marketing, campaigns, digital and publications. Source: ACCE

Kristin Craig is first woman to lead Terre Haute Chamber

Monday morning brought a new leader to the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce as Kristin Craig began her official tenure as President.
Craig is the first woman to lead the Chamber as President in the organization’s 106 year history.
“This is an exciting time for the Chamber and its membership,” Chamber Board of Directors Chair Brian Kooistra, Chief Operations Officer for Garmong Construction Services, said in a previous statement. “Kristin has shown great leadership and vision during her time at the Chamber. We have several initiatives underway and with Kristin at the helm we have great momentum going into the future.”
The momentum with Craig as leader is already being felt, as Terre Haute was named Chamber of the Year by the Indiana Chamber Executives Association this month. The organization also recognized the “Terre Haute Is All In” campaign as one of eleven organizations for “Best Marketing Campaign”.
Under Craig’s leadership as Vice President, along with former President David Haynes who retired effective June 30, new community-wide initiatives were formed including West Central 2025 and work to establish West Central Indiana as a 21st Century Talent Region. Craig also worked to create Better Health Wabash Valley and led the adoption of Downtown Terre Haute as a branch of the Chamber. The Chamber’s leap into increased advocacy efforts, in partnership with the firm RJL Solutions, was also spearheaded by Craig.
“There are so many good projects happening right now; so much opportunity and investments being made, this is a great time for West Central Indiana,” Craig said. “I am thrilled to be in a position to lead and continue the momentum.”
A native of Argenta, Illinois, Craig has been employed by the Chamber since 2002 and has served in numerous capacities over her sixteen year tenure. An alumna of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, she returned to The Woods in 2016 to receive her master’s degree in leadership development. Her thesis study focused on the future of the Terre Haute Chamber.
In addition to her role at the Chamber, Craig serves on the board of several organizations, including: Art Spaces, Inc., United Way of the Wabash Valley, Terre Haute Young Leaders, Wabash Valley Leadership Institute and Rediscover Clinton. She and her husband Scott, both work in downtown Terre Haute. They reside in Clinton, Indiana with their three daughters, Amelia, Lily and Kate. Read more: My Wabash Valley
