Good morning #ChamberWorld! It's going to be a GREAT day!

September Power In Partnership to feature Supreme Court Race

A political forum for the 1st District Kentucky Supreme Court race will be the program for the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce Power in Partnership breakfast on September 5 at 7:30 a.m. The event will be held at the Julian Carroll Convention Center. Whitlow Roberts Houston and Straub is the sponsor.

The program will feature Court of Appeals Judge Shea Nickell and State Senator Whitney Westerfield, candidates for the 1st District Kentucky Supreme Court. The 1st Supreme Court District is composed of 24 Western Kentucky counties.

Judge Shea Nickell is a graduate of DePauw University and the University of Kentucky College of Law.  He has been an attorney for over 35 years and is licensed to practice in all Kentucky state and federal courts and the United States Supreme Court. In 1995, the Kentucky Bar Association honored Judge Nickell as its “Outstanding Kentucky Young Attorney.”

Prior to becoming an appellate judge, Judge Nickell worked 22 years as a trial attorney, public advocate, prosecutor, and college instructor.  He served as Assistant McCracken County Attorney and has taught legal courses on insurance and risk management in the Economics Department at Murray State University.

For the past 13 years, Judge Nickell has served the 24 counties of the First Appellate District on the Kentucky Court of Appeals, sitting on over 2,800 appeals, authoring over 965 opinions, and having only 21 of those authored opinions set aside in whole or in part.  In recognition of his skill and leadership, his fellow judges elected him Chief Judge Pro Tem.  Judge Nickell is married to Dr. Carolyn Watson, a Paducah pathologist.

Senator Whitney Westerfield is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the Southern Illinois University School of Law.  He has served in the Kentucky State Senate since 2012 as a representative of the citizens of Christian, Todd, and Logan counties. In addition to serving over five years as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, he maintains a private civil practice, serving clients all over Western Kentucky.

Senator Westerfield currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and as a member of the Capital Planning Advisory Board, Tobacco Fund Settlement Oversight, Agriculture, Natural Resources & Energy, Veterans/Military Affairs/Public Protection and the Program Review & Investigations Committees in the State Senate. In 2013, he served as Co-Chairman of the Juvenile Code Reform Task Force and during the 2014 Regular Session sponsored Senate Bill 200, reflecting the work of the Task Force and bringing about the largest reform to Kentucky's juvenile justice system in 30 years.  He owns a small row crop farm in North Christian County with his five brothers.  He and his wife, Amanda, have two children.

The Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce announces that Joan Hansen has been appointed Executive Director & CEO
The Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce announced today that Joan Hansen has been appointed Executive Director & CEO. She succeeds former Wauwatosa Mayor Terry Estness, who has been the Chamber’s part time director for the past eight years.
“Joan brings a wealth of experience to this position that will help us increase advocacy and support for our membership” said Guy Mascari, President of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. He added that “Terry Estness has left the Chamber in sound financial shape and the Board is very appreciative of her dedication during the time that she led the Chamber.”
Hansen previously spent many years with various state agencies in management and policy positions – collaborating with stakeholders in communities statewide. She was a senior policy advisor at the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) and former Deputy Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. She worked for more than a decade at Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (the State Chamber of Commerce), where she served in dual roles as the Director of Tax and Corporate Policy and as the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Mining Association advocating for small and large businesses. Hansen is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
Hansen’s focus will be to grow the Chamber’s membership, programs and profile in Wauwatosa and surrounding communities.  By hiring a full-time experienced executive like Hansen, the Chamber Board is underscoring the fundamental reason that chambers exist - to support and advocate for its membership and ensure that the concerns of businesses are heard at all levels of government.
The Wauwatosa Chamber is in its 80th year, having been actively representing businesses, institutions and other organizations in and around the west suburban Milwaukee community since 1939.

The Chamber’s Board of Directors conducted an extensive search for a full-time Executive Director and CEO and received over 60 applications. After being recommended by the Board’s Search Committee, Hansen was approved by its Executive Committee on August 12, 2019 and the full Board on August 15, 2019. She will begin her new responsibilities on September 3, 2019.

We've now raised nearly $4700 this year for our partner charities. Besides BFEE, the Batavia Chamber is so pleased to be able to support the Batavia Rotary Club, Elderday Center, Lazarus House, LivingWell Cancer Resource Center, Valley Sheltered Workshop and Fox Valley Special Recreation Association.
