Good morning #Chamber World! It's going to be a GREAT day!

Project Oshkosh Supports City of Oshkosh’s Proposal to Oshkosh Corporation
OSHKOSH, WIS. (November 3, 2017) – Today, the City of Oshkosh’s proposal and offer to Oshkosh Corporation was made available to the public on the city’s website. As advocates for business and industry in our community, we support and applaud the City for presenting a competitive and aggressive offer to retain Oshkosh Corporation’s global headquarters in Oshkosh. The proposal and its terms are necessary to secure Oshkosh’s economic future and quality of life for years to come. See the City’s proposal here.

This is a defining moment for Oshkosh. The City’s proposal is an affirmation and indication that as a city, we are ready and willing to do what it takes to compete and win.

The terms offered by the City that are to be approved by the City Council next week, before being presented to Oshkosh Corporation, are strong and competitive to ensure Oshkosh Corporation remains a vital part of our economy and community.

The City’s proposal offers the best opportunity to retain Oshkosh Corporation’s world headquarters in Oshkosh. Furthermore, the revenue received by the City from the land sale will have a positive impact on the City’s finances and the infrastructure developments will create jobs, add to the tax base, expedite other development projects in the area, and enhance elements of the public land to increase accessibility for all Oshkosh residents. It is a win-win-win outcome for our city.

We urge the City Council to vote unanimously to approve the City’s terms and proposal for Oshkosh Corporation at their upcoming council meeting on Wednesday, November 8. Approval of this offer is the next immediate step required to keep Oshkosh Corporation located here by offering the site and incentives for the company to build their new corporate world headquarters.

This will be the second large success for the city within a year’s time following the construction of the Menominee Nation Arena and the Wisconsin Herd’s decision to make Oshkosh its home. The impact of these two decisions is significant—it shows that Oshkosh has what it takes and is ready to do whatever is necessary to not only compete, but also to succeed, as a great place to work and do business, live, learn and recreate, now, and well into the future.

Over the next few days leading up to the council’s final vote on Wednesday, we encourage our members to support the City’s proposal to Oshkosh Corporation and help educate fellow residents of Oshkosh in conversation and online about the necessity and significance of this proposal for our city’s future and well-being. Please attend upcoming meetings on Monday, November 6 at 6 p.m. at the Convention Center for a joint meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee and Plan Commission and also attend the City Council meeting on Wednesday, November 8 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to voice your support for the proposal and approving this important decision.

This is a watershed moment for Oshkosh. It is a “generational” opportunity that requires all of us to champion and support this important vote to safeguard our city’s future, economic prosperity, and quality of life.

Chamber Makes Plans for 2018 Leadership Lafayette Program - Leadership Lafayette 2018 Class Call for Applications

-Application Deadline is Thursday, November 30, 2017

Emerging community leaders of Oxford and Lafayette County once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual Leadership Lafayette program presented by the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce.

The eight-month program, beginning in January 2018, is a series of training sessions and activities, designed for emerging community leaders. It is intended to assure the continuity of leadership in Lafayette-Oxford-University community and assist already established community leaders, who seek more effective ways to contribute to the community. In addition to the sessions, class members will also participate in a community based project.

“Leadership Lafayette is a great opportunity for community leaders to engage in their community through networking, education and group projects. Each session is coordinated by alumni of the program who put considerable thought into making each year the best it can be,” said Torie White, Leadership Lafayette Program Chair.

The objectives of the program include identifying potential community leaders, developing individual leadership potential, acquiring knowledge about community and current issues in Lafayette County, creating dialogue and rapport among participants and current leaders, and promoting a sense of "community" through shared efforts benefiting the local community.

Each month will involve an all day session from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. These sessions are packed with information about Oxford and Lafayette County and the needs of the community. Participants will acquire knowledge about current issues that surround them, as well as focused leadership training.

Leadership Lafayette participants will be selected by a steering committee on the basis of completed applications received by Thursday, November 30, 2017. Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to their potential for leadership, would contribute to the overall diversity and strength of the class and have available time to commit to the program and future community service. Program participation is limited to 25. The program requires a tuition fee of $375 upon acceptance.

Display/distribute the Shop Southern Illinois flier.

Fifteen area Chambers of Commerce along with a Main Street program and several regional businesses have teamed up this holiday season in an effort to encourage Southern Illinoisans to do a majority of their holiday shopping in the region, rather than traveling out of the area or shopping online.

The effort, called “Shop Southern Illinois,” features a strong social media presence where residents can learn some of the reasons it is important for Southern Illinoisans to shop locally and where they may pledge to do most of their own holiday shopping in the region by using the hashtag #IBuySI. By making a post or tweet with the #IBuySI hashtag, participants are entered in weekly drawings to win prizes.

A prize package, each with a minimum value of $100, will be given away weekly by the following Chambers of Commerce/Main Street program:
• November 3 - Metropolis Chamber of Commerce
• November 10 - Union County Chamber of Commerce
• November 17 - Saline County Chamber of Commerce

George Tinsley, Sr. Addresses Owensboro Chamber Breakfast

Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Rooster Booster Breakfast is this Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. Central Standard Time. Kentucky Wesleyan College is sponsoring the event.
George Tinsley Sr.’s road to success could be likened to that of a rags-to-riches story. George’s unyielding determination and strong work ethic are the true gifts that catapulted him to a lifetime of multiple careers, professional achievements, business success and meaningful contributions to improving the lives of others.
Despite many obstacles, Tinsley capitalized on his athletic gifts and was recruited on scholarship to Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1966, and as a freshman he led the team to the first of 3 Division II NCAA National Championships. He quickly earned the rep of being a ‘defensive demon’ and would take the Panthers on to 2 national titles in 1968 and 1969, selected as an alternate to the 1968 U.S. Olympic Team, and would soon be drafted to play for professional teams, such as the New York Nets and the Kentucky Colonels.
Tinsley transitioned his talent for team management to the corporate sector, beginning with an 8-year management career at Kentucky Fried Chicken Corporation where he paved the way to his first franchise in 1984. Within 5 years he had acquired and built 5 more franchises and in 1989 was named KFCC’s Premier Operator, the highest honor presented to franchisees. Today, George Tinsley is the President and CEO of PenGeo Inc., Tinsley Family Concessions, Inc., The Tinsley Group, Inc., Tinsley-Bridgeman, LLC, and GW Tinsley Consulting, LLC. His company owns and operates more than 60 franchises in Florida and Kentucky.
