2017 Christian County Veterans Day Parade
The Christian County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee invites community members to join us for the 2017 Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11, 2017.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. from the War Memorial Building. The lineup includes Veterans, Fort Campbell soldiers, military vehicles, local bands, and much more. The parade route runs from the War Memorial Building to the Christian County Justice Center. Following the parade, there will be a brief program in the parking lot of the Christian County Justice Center.
The Military Affairs Committee encourages your business or organization to join us along the route on 9th Street as a sidewalk saluter. This is a great opportunity to show our local veterans and their families your support of their service.
If you are interested in participating in the 2017 Veterans Day Parade as a sidewalk saluter, please contact Katie Lopez at 270-885-9096 or email klopez@christiancountychamber.com. If leaving a message, please include your name, contact information, and number of people attending from your business or organization.
“We are so appreciative of the men and women who have served our country. The sacrifices military families make are tremendous and this is the least we can do to show them our appreciation,” said Katie Lopez, Director of Military Affairs with the Christian County Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber members hear updates on economic situation
After the recession in 2008, and the continued effects of it years after, UW-River Falls Economic Department Chair Logan Kelly said the economy is now back in a spot where people are feeling good.
Kelly held a presentation on the current economy in the region and the nation at a Hudson Chamber of Commerce event on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Economists, Kelly said, label the technical end of the recession as summer of 2009.
"To which the average person on the street says, 'Are you kidding me?'" Kelly said.
This date was the end of the economy getting worse, Kelly said. Improvements, however, weren't felt until 2010-2014.
"2015 was the first year that we started to feel better," Kelly said.
That improvement is seen now in the real estate market.
"We've finally cycled through all the properties that were under water," Kelly said.
Now the economy is seeing the full effect with GDP, consumption and investment all up by over 3 percent in the second quarter of 2017.
When growth gets over this 3 percent mark, Kelly said that's when the economy sees positive implications, and inflation may come into play. Read more: Hudson Star Observer

Flint &
Genesee Chamber Receives Top Awards Recognizing Excellence, Innovation
The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce today
announced receipt of two distinctive awards, including the 2017 Outstanding
Chamber of Commerce Award from the Michigan Association of Chamber
Professionals, MACP, and the 2017 Chamber Innovation Award from GrowthZone.
“We are thrilled to receive these awards,” said Tim Herman, CEO
of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce. “They validate the work we do –
every day – to move Flint and Genesee County forward, and recognize the efforts
of our boards, members and community partners.” Herman added: “We should all be proud of these accomplishments.”
Each year, the Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award is
presented by the MACP – the industry association for chambers of commerce in
Michigan – in three categories including Small, Mid-size and Large Chamber.
The Flint & Genesee Chamber was recognized with this year’s
award in the Large Chamber category during the MACP Leadership Conference and
Annual Meeting, held in Grand Rapids, Oct. 26.
“The Flint & Genesee Chamber received this award based on
its accomplishments in leadership and governance, financial stewardship,
business advocacy and member programming,” said Bob Thomas, Director for the
Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals. “Among the chamber’s noted
achievements were its continued growth in membership and business engagement, a
strong demonstration of local advocacy and a commitment to creative and
innovative programming. The chamber’s ability to meet and address member needs
in the midst of a regional crisis are commendable and serve as model
programming for other chambers of commerce.”
Additionally, GrowthZone, a company that provides member
management software and services, recently recognized the Flint & Genesee
Chamber with its 2017 Chamber Innovation Awards, which highlight innovative
programs, events and ideas that challenge the status quo. First-place awards
were presented in three categories, including Small, Medium and Large Chamber.
The Flint & Genesee Chamber was awarded first place in the
Large Chamber category for its Moving Flint Forward initiative, which launched
in 2016 to address the business development needs arising out of, or magnified
by, the Flint water crisis.
The centerpiece of this initiative – which resulted from a
partnership between the Chamber, FlintNOW and the Community Foundation of
Greater Flint – was a charitable fund created to provide financial support for
small businesses, minority-owned businesses, North Flint redevelopment and
activities that encourage tourism.
