#BestChamber Practices: Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce: The Leader in Me
The Chamber strongly believes that The Leader in Me prepares the future workforce by teaching children about leadership, accountability, teamwork and much more—all of which are integral skills for talent development. The Leader in Me will help our community differentiate itself from others as our workforce gains more skills that help companies compete in the global economy.
The Chamber is collaborating with the Bowling Green Independent Schools, the Warren County Public Schools and the FranklinCovey® organization to implement The Leader in Me in our schools.
As the implementation grows, so does the need for funding. The Chamber is in the beginning phases of a capital campaign to fund The Leader in Me. With the goal of raising $1.6 million, this capital campaign will fund the initial implementation in the districts’ existing schools. Using the campaign funds, Bowling Green-Warren County will become the first community in the nation to have implemented The Leader in Me in all schools and in all grades K-12.

By supporting The Leader in Me, the Chamber demonstrates our commitment to the local community. The Leader in Me will teach children to be effective leaders, grow the capacity of our workforce and differentiate us from the ever-increasingly competitive landscape for business, jobs and economic growth. Roanoke-area legislators tout regional wins at chamber breakfast

Roanoke Valley legislators touted a session marked by a string of major regional victories Tuesday during a debriefing with Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce members.

The valley prevailed in saving Catawba Hospital, lining up bond money to double the size of the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute and scrambling at the last minute to secure additional incentives to bring a major new car parts manufacturer to Botetourt County.

“Like my dad used to say, you’ve done us proud,” said moderator Michael Pace of Roanoke College during the chamber’s annual legislative wrap-up breakfast.

These successes and the behind-the-scenes work that went into them cast a new light on the common lament that the region has lost political clout over the years as senior legislators retired and a new, younger delegation was ushered in.

“Every year I’ve been up here, we’ve been asked, how in the world are you all ever going to get anything done? You’re all a bunch of new guys,” said Del. Greg Habeeb, R-Salem. “It was a false narrative. ... But what we needed was sort of a headline to prove the truth.” Read more: Roanoke Times

Chamber partnership: New videos to feature Oxford

Several new videos will soon be released that feature Oxford and all it has to offer and will be available to use as marketing tools for the city, local businesses and developers.
Seven videos were produced by Joe York with the University of Mississippi Center for the Study of Southern Culture as a joint project between
Visit Oxford, the Oxford and Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Foundation.
Visit Oxford director Mary Allyn Hedges presented the videos to the Oxford Tourism Council Wednesday during its regular monthly meeting.
Each video is about two to three minutes long. There is one Oxford overall video that highlights much of what makes Oxford special. The other six videos all focus on one particular aspect of the community, including health care, business and industry, arts and culture, education, retirement and newcomers, and parks and recreation.
The videos feature local business people, government officials and local residents who give brief comments as to what makes Oxford a place people should want to visit or call home. - See more at: Oxford Eagle

#BestChamber Practices: New Castle-Henry County Chamber News: Indiana University East Employer Survey

Indiana University East considers itself as an integral member of the local and regional economy in East Central Indiana and we take this role very seriously. IU East is currently examining the training and professional needs of Henry and surrounding counties for targeted and/or general professional development or other forms of training. As a majority of the population chooses to remain in the region following completion of high school and/or college, we believe that investing time and resources in fellow Hoosiers represents the surest path for communities and individuals to take in order to prosper.

We are conducting a short online survey to better understand your needs and develop ideas for future offerings. If you would be interested in participating in this important survey by sharing your particular needs, please go to the following website at https://www.research.net/r/IUEDanielson and complete each item. This is a four-item anonymous survey, so it will only take a few minutes of your time.

Through the unique role that each business plays in the local and regional economy, you may have distinct needs not immediately addressed by program or discipline-specific training currently offered by IU East. However, we are open to providing training that could be tailored in ways that meet the immediate needs of the local employers.

We are opening the survey on March 14, 2016 and will close it March 25, 2016. IU East is committed to the counties and communities we serve. We thank you for your time and attention to this.

Sincerely,

James Barbre
Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education

Dodgeville Chamber event: Wisconsin Dairy News - Grilled Cheese Championships

It's the fifth year for the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships and in this segment of Wisconsin Dairy News we're giving you a preview of what's going to happen at the annual competitive event.

On Saturday, April 23, inside the Ley Pavilion at Harris Park in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, chefs and home cooks from across the state will converge to show off their Wisconsin Cheese grilling abilities.

"We bring professionals and amateurs together so the neat part about that is you don't have to be an expert to come in and have fun," said Lynn Price, Executive Director for Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce.

The competition is divided into four categories; Classic- which is a sandwich with just Wisconsin cheese. Classic Plus One- which is cheese plus one ingredient. Classic Plus Extras- which is cheese and unlimited ingredients, And Classic Dessert. All sandwiches must contain at least 60% Wisconsin cheese!

"It's a great way to spend the afternoon to celebrate the heritage of the dairy industry, the great state that we are."

The family-friendly event offers plenty of activities for all ages!

"We have a live band, Point Five. We have the kids activities center. We have photo opportunities, we have food vendors, we have exhibitors. So there's a little bit of something for everyone." Read more: WXOW.com
