Good morning Chamber World! It's going to be a GREAT day!
Lansing Regional chamber awards recognize 3 leaders tonight
Tim Daman, Lansing Regional Chamber |
Three business leaders will be recognized for their accomplishments tonight at the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Annual Dinner.
Mark Hooper, founding partner of Andrews Hooper Pavlik, PLC, will receive the Community Service award, advertising agency M3 Group will receive the Outstanding Small Business award and Sohn Linen Service will receive the Chamber Legacy award. The three winners had to apply and be nominated for the awards.
“They each bring unique perspectives to our region,” said chamber President and CEO Tim Daman.
Hooper will be recognized for his involvement in the local business investment group Capital Community Angels as well as his financial support of charities in the region. He serves as a board member for the Capital Region Community Foundation, Ele’s Place and is a member of the Rotary Club of Lansing.
“With all the involvement he’s had in the community, he’s right in line with folks going back to the 1940s who’ve won this award,” Daman said.
Hooper said he has looked at the long list of recipients and said it is a great honor to be listed among them.
"At Lansing Rotary, service is one of the core things we do," Hooper said. "To be recognized for it is extra special. Service helps people and helps make the community better."
M3 Group’s growth in recent years have made the business a great candidate for the award, Daman said.
"It's validating that what we've been doing as an organization is the right thing," said CEO and founder Tiffany Dowling."The team is dedicated to what they do every day." Read more: Lansing State Journal

#Chamber delight: Butler uses humor to applaud Marion, commerce
That approval perhaps, Butler said, is a reason why few people attend council meetings, despite reported complaints to a commissioner that Butler is intimidating. What a joke,” Butler said. “After 52 years in office, that is the first time I have heard such nonsense. Here I stand, full of the milk of human kindness. My cup runneth over with charity and benevolence. Read more: Southern Illinoisian
Advertising is the lifeblood of any business, and Elkhart County — much like a business — is looking to strike while the iron is hot with an aggressive marketing campaign featuring one Indiana Toll Road exit.

#Chamber delight: Butler uses humor to applaud Marion, commerce
While applauding the city’s commercial wherewithal Friday during the Marion Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet, a “kinder and gentler” Mayor Robert Butler was not lacking in a jab or two, including at himself.
Butler opened with a number of jokes, including one purportedly of him offering to donate to a group’s favorite charity $50 that was to be given to him for a speech. An organizer told him it would go to the organization for better speakers.
“I continue my quest to be kinder and gentler,” Butler started from the podium of the 95th Auction and Awards Banquet.
“Now, I’m not paranoid, but I believe that at least one of them was disappointed,” Butler said.“That is not easy. Last year was an election year, and it was difficult,” he recalled, pointing to an election day Facebook post claiming Butler had a heart attack that prompted phone calls and visitors to his office.
Butler, 88, went on to describe his re-election as an indication of voter approval of his and the city council’s administration.

#Chamber interest: Elkhart County hopes aggressive advertising will attract more travelers through Exit 92
Kyle Hannon, Greater Elkhart Chamber |
The Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau is rolling out the welcome mat at Exit 92 on the Indiana Toll Road, the primary exit leading to the city. With numerous dining and lodging options minutes away, the exit has plenty to offer weary and hungry travelers. The bureau is hoping to take advantage of some of those amenities — while highlighting “The City with a Heart ” — through a multistate advertising campaign.
“The exit features the largest density of dining and lodging assets right off of the Toll Road in the state,” said Denise Hernandez, director of marketing and advertising sales for the visitors bureau. “We hope that through this campaign people will get off, enjoy what we have to offer and explore the county.”
The campaign features a myriad of Exit 92 advertisements that will be featured throughout the state and even into Ohio. The effort also will include a large ad in the Toll Road exit-by-exit guide, eight billboard signs placed along the length of the Toll Road, and rack cards placed along the Indiana and Ohio toll roads.
The bureau is developing a website — Exit92.org — and is looking at digital ad placements in key travel apps likeWaze and Yelp, among other steps.
“We have also secured billboards at the east and west entry points to the toll road,” said Hernandez.
The Elkhart Redevelopment Commission has approved spending $100,000 to help fund the marketing project. The bureau says the timing for the promotional effort is right in light of the recent announcement that the Toll Road plaza west of Exit 92 will be downgraded in 2016 from a full-service plaza with restaurants to a fuel/convenience store location that is smaller in size.
“I think the timing is good to let these travelers know that they need to be getting off at our exits,” said Kyle Hannon, president of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Elkhart Redevelopment Commission. “With the money that we are expected to see from the Regional Cities Initiative, with Vibrant Communities kicking off, it is a great time to show off our community.” Read more: Elkhart Truth
