Batesville Chamber (Arkansas) To Announce Planning Strategy for Independence County

Wherever Phil Baldwin goes, strategic planning follows.
When Baldwin was CEO of Southern Bancorp of Arkadelphia, he worked on a strategic plan for Clark County and on the Delta Bridge Project, a project of Southern Bancorp Community Partners in Phillips and Mississippi counties in Arkansas and Coahoma County, Mississippi.
Now Baldwin is CEO of Citizens Bank of Batesville and chairman of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. And on Wednesday, the chamber and partners Lyon College and the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville will announce the start of strategic planning for Independence County.
A public meeting to begin the process will follow on July 1, and Gov. Asa Hutchinson is expected to take part. Read more: Arkansas Business

Rolling Meadows (Illinois) Chamber award winners 'radiate excellence'

Winners of the 2015 Rolling Meadows Chamber of Commerce Circle of Success awards lived up to Thursday night's theme of "radiating excellence" as community, government and business leaders and organizations were celebrated for their contributions to the city.
For several honorees, Thursday night's awards, handed out at the Wyndham Garden hotel in Schaumburg, were because of the winners' efforts to turn around their businesses and better the community.
Clarice Gunther, general manager at the Atrium Corporate Center, which was named Business of the Year, said the award was the culmination of years of hard work.
When her company bought the center in 2011, it was only 58 percent occupied and had 900 employees, she said. The center is now 100 percent leased through 2018 and has 2,200 employees. Read more: Daily Herald

NKC collaboration: 150 area high schoolers chosen as Navigo Scholars by eight local companies focusing on jobs, careers

Looking to build their own workforce, eight local companies will also brighten the futures of 150 area high school students.
On Thursday, June 11th, NaviGo College and Career Prep Services and the Northern Kentucky Education Council will recognize those eight companies and the 150 students they selected to be part of the 2015-16 NaviGo Scholars Program.
Toyota, Duke Energy, Mazak, Pomeroy, Citi, Heritage Bank, C-Forward and Toyota Boshoku combed through applications from more than 200 local students hoping to be part of the NaviGo Scholars program.
The NaviGo Scholars program focuses primarily on recruiting and training for the most needed jobs in our area. The Northern Kentucky Education Council and NaviGo College and Career Prep Services collaborated with the Northern Kentucky Workforce Investment Board and the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce to identify career areas that were in need of jobs.
Sponsors looked for students with interests that connected with their work forces. Identifying those students before they ever graduate from high school will allow the companies to work with students who could potentially fill their future job needs. Read more: Northern Kentucky Tribune

Dearborn Area Chamber Event: Dearborn Schools Honors Its Teachers of the Year

Four outstanding Dearborn Public Schools teachers were honored by students, parents, colleagues and community leaders on May 20 at the 2015 Alberta Muirhead Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony. More than 400 were at the event hosted by the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

The Chamber’s Education Committee, chaired by Philipp Emma, had the tough job of selecting four winners from a field of more than 900 nominations for 239 teachers. Nominations were sorted into four grade level groups: pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade; 3rd-5th grade; middle school; and high school. Nominations were carefully reviewed and winners were chosen by a committee representing the educational and business communities.

The winning teachers for 2014 are:
First grade teacher Seena Ankouni received the 2015 Pre-Kindergarten-2nd Grade Teacher of the Year Award. Ms. Ankouni began working in the District in 2011 as a second grade teacher at Lowrey and now teaches first grade at the school. She holds a bachelor of language arts from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in literacy education from Madonna University.

Ms. Ankouni was nominated for teacher of the year by student Seena Abdulla who wrote, “This was my first year at Lowrey. I had no friends because I was new to the school and very shy! My teacher knew I was struggling to make friends so she asked the class if they can be my friend!” Read more: Dearborn Patch

Indiana Chamber Employer Survey Results: Companies Anticipate Growth, Lack Workforce Needed

An annual Indiana Chamber of Commerce statewide workforce survey reinforces a common theme: Indiana companies are prepared to grow, but nearly three-quarters of the 526 respondents report that filling their workforce is challenging.
Economic prospects are bright. Fifty-eight percent of respondents expect the size of their workforce to increase in the next 12 to 24 months and another 38% anticipate stable employee counts. These mirror 2014 numbers (57% and 39%, respectively) and reinforce a shift from 2013 when just 36% foresaw growth and 59% looked at no changes in employee numbers.
As far as finding those employees, 74% note the challenge – with 24% reporting that “filling our workforce is our biggest challenge.” These results are a slight increase from 2014 findings of 72% indicating a challenge and 19% labeling it their biggest issue. Forty-three percent report they have left jobs unfilled in Indiana due to under-qualified candidates (a 4% increase over 2014).
“The continued positive outlook from Indiana employers is encouraging,” contends Indiana Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kevin Brinegar. “But despite various programs and local examples of strong education-business connections, it’s clear that much more work remains to provide workers with the skills they need for today’s and tomorrow’s jobs.”
The survey, in its eighth year, is provided to Indiana Chamber members and customers throughout the state. The largest respondent groups were organizations with between 50 and 249 employees (40%), 1-49 employees (36%) and manufacturing/advanced manufacturing industries (38%). The 2015 effort was sponsored by WGU Indiana. Read more: Indiana Chamber

Rozner: Blackhawks' band of brothers brings Stanley Cup home to Chicago

The first one took 49 years.
The second one took 17 seconds.
The third one took 380 days, and cost more blood and sweat than the first two titles combined.
This trek began the night the Blackhawks lost to Los Angeles in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals in 2014, and ended Monday night in Chicago with a Game 6 victory over Tampa, the culmination of an extraordinary run buoyed by a remarkable commitment to climbing the mountain one more time together.
They reached the summit as a group, dragging each other one step at a time, one brutal, mind-numbing, gut-wrenching, quad-burning step at a time.
And now they are Stanley Cup champions for the third time in six seasons, cementing a dynasty that in the salary-cap era is unseen and unheard of in any sport, perhaps not to be duplicated. Read more: Daily Herald
