Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Announces Retirement of President/CEO John Long

In the meantime, Chamber Finance and Operations Director Stanley Brinkley will manage the Chamber’s day-to-day operations.
Alexandria Chamber of Commerce President and CEO John T. Long III has announced that he is retiring from the Chamber. Long has been with the Alexandria Chamber since March 2012 and he retires after 25 years as an executive with Chambers of Commerce around the country, according to a news release from the Chamber.

In 2012, Long replaced Tina Leone, who left to head the Ballston business improvement district in Arlington.

At Detroit Regional Chamber Mackinac business conference, lawmakers pressured to fix roads now

Business leaders and others pressed lawmakers Friday to act immediately to boost spending on Michigan's road and bridge infrastructure, saying the recent defeat of a transportation-funding ballot measure did not diminish the need to enact an alternative plan as early as this summer.
"We've been talking about this issue far too long," said Doug Rothwell, president and CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan.
He said Plan B should "mostly depend on additional (tax) revenues" but there could be some "well-reasoned" budgets cuts as long as they are not "very deep."
Others on a panel at the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Mackinac Policy Conference concurred, though some differed over how to actually to find $1.5 billion more for roads and bridges.
Republican House Speaker Kevin Cotter has proposed legislation that would boost road spending by $1 billion primarily by earmarking some income and sales taxes for the transportation budget, diverting economic development money and eliminating a tax credit for lower-income workers. Gov. Rick Snyder, a Republican, said he supports higher fuel and vehicle registration taxes and is open to reprioritizing existing money "within reason." Read more: News & Observer

The Junior Ambassador Program seeks to reach out to those youth who are the next generation of leaders for the City of Madison.  Being a Junior Ambassador prepares the students for constructive and responsible participation in community affairs as well as furthering the mission of Madison the City Chamber of Commerce, which is to support, promote and attract business for the advancement of the community.
Throughout the year long program, students explore our community – its resources, leadership needs, issues and opportunities. They share ideas and learn what it takes to work together and to become decision-makers. They examine how to develop the abilities and skills needed to be responsible participants in community affairs. Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Launches On Track Motorsports Education Initiative

Today, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce announced the launch of the On Track Motorsports Education Initiative, in partnership with the Warren County Area Technology Center, Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College and Holley Performance Products.
The Chamber, in partnership with the Bowling Green Economic Development Authority, will purchase two second-generation Chevrolet Camaros from Holley to donate to SKYCTC and Warren County ATC. The schools will completely rebuild the cars, using multiple educational disciplines, including science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
This initiative is a crucial piece of the Chamber’s commitment to the development of talent for the future workforce of South Central Kentucky. According to the 2013 Urgent Call to Action study, South Central Kentucky will have 4,500 job openings in 2016 in manufacturing alone, and that number doubles to 9,000 by 2020. The On Track initiative introduces critical STEM concepts in a practical setting that will help develop a highly skilled talent pipeline to continue to fuel the already strong South Central Kentucky economy.
“We are always excited when opportunities arise to create more educational access for individuals in the community and to highlight our achievements on a national level,” said Chris Cumens, vice president of finance and administration at SKYCTC. “The On Track initiative accomplishes both. We have a unique opportunity to help promote the growing demand for careers related to STEM fields while helping others understand the incredible automotive performance infrastructure that Bowling Green supports. It’s easy to envision this growing into a very impactful program for our community and becoming a national model much like ‘The Leader in Me.’” Read more: WBKO.com
