Chicago Firm Plans To Triple Its Indiana Employment

Cheetah Digital, an independent, enterprise cross-channel marketing software company, announced plans to continue expanding its Indianapolis operations, with plans to triple its employment here and create up to 100 new, high-wage jobs by 2021.
“Central Indiana continues to develop its reputation of housing a growing tech community, enabling us to attract new business from around the globe,” Governor Eric J. Holcomb said. “Through our commitment to attracting and building a skilled workforce, we will continue fostering innovation through opportunities with growing companies like Cheetah Digital. We are confident they will keep thriving in Indiana’s tech community and business-friendly environment.”
The company, which is headquartered in Chicago, opened its Indianapolis office just last year and is slated to invest more than $2 million in its Monument Circle facility over the next five years. Cheetah Digital occupies approximately 16,000 square feet at the Guaranty Building downtown, and plans to further renovate and expand the space as it hires more employees to scale with the business growth.
“The Indianapolis tech community continues to grow, making it an ideal place for us to find strong enterprise tech talent,” said Todd Richardson, chief administration officer at Cheetah Digital. “We’re excited to continue building out our Product organization here, and are taking advantage of some of the strong associations in the city, such as Indy Women in Tech.”
Cheetah Digital, which has already grown its Indiana-based team to 50 full-time associates, plans to continue hiring sales professionals, customer support managers, software engineers and other technical staff.
“There’s a reason why Governing Magazine refers to Indianapolis as the Silicon Valley of the Midwest,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Companies like Cheetah Digital see the value of our growing talent pipeline for key industry sectors like marketing tech. We’re excited for Cheetah Digital as they expand downtown Indy’s tech ecosystem and further solidify our status as a global leader in innovation and opportunity.”
Cheetah Digital was established in June 2017 after divesting from Ireland-based Experian. The company helps marketers around the world build meaningful customer relationships and create profitable brand outcomes through cross-channel marketing technology and services. Cheetah Digital has approximately 1,500 employees in 20+ offices around the world, serving more than 3,000 clients, which are primarily in the retail, travel and hospitality, and finance industries.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered Cheetah Digital up to $2.4 million in conditional tax credits and up to $100,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. In addition to state offerings, the city of Indianapolis has approved up to $100,000 in performance-based training grants upon the recommendation of Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber. This training grant will accompany workforce, permitting, and regulatory assistance from EmployIndy and the Indy Chamber. Building Indiana

Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce unveil new logo

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce unveiled their new logo at their headquarters Wednesday morning.
The new logo represents the famous BG acronym following arrows of the nationally known South Central Kentucky logo in blue and gray.
President and CEO, Ronald Bunch, says "the Chamber has received state and national attention for its chamber operations, economic development efforts and SCK LAUNCH initiative and needed to bring the logos of the three facets into alignment."
The new logo is said to show the "modern and evolving" Chamber.
"We wanted it to synergize with our other brands. Our South Central Kentucky brand has been out there for quite a number of years, we've invested about a quarter of a million a year marketing that to the world for economic development and we've had great success. Our SCK LAUNCH brand is out there getting some national recognition. So now our Chamber brand really synergizes with our overall brand ," Bunch said.

The new brand can be seen on the website, letterhead and communications. Read more: WBKO.com

Major Funding Approved for MS Transportation; Legislation a Key Step in Addressing Mississippi Infrastructure Needs

The Mississippi Legislature took a big step forward in addressing Mississippi's transportation infrastructure with the passage of two key bills that will put more than $200 million annually into preserving the state's most valuable asset - our infrastructure.
Special thanks to the leadership of Governor Phil Bryant, Lt. Governor Tate Reeves and Speaker Philip Gunn in the passage of the Mississippi Infrastructure Modernization Act and legislation to create a lottery, from which certain funds will be dedicated to transportation. Providing additional transportation funding has been a major priority since the completion of a report by the Blueprint Mississippi Transportation Task Force, chaired by Joe F. Sanderson, Jr. of Sanderson Farms, Inc.
The task force's study underscored the need for focusing on maintenance of roadways and the repair and replacement of bridges at the state and local level.
The MS Modernization Act of 2018 Will:
  • Divert 35% of the 7% use tax for internet and out-of-state sales to local governments and bridge repairs.
  • Divide up the use tax diversion -  15% to cities - 15% to counties - 5% to the Local System Bridge Program
  • Create a new tax on hybrid and electric cars
  • Bond $300 million, with $250 going to the Mississippi Department of Transportation for emergency projects and $50 million to be spent on projects deemed necessary by the legislature
  • Require counties to match the state use tax money dollar for dollar
  • Divert the new casino sports betting tax money toward infrastructure
  • The lottery legislation, which was named the "Alyce G. Clarke Mississippi Lottery Law" after the legislator who has long advocated for a lottery, will dedicate the first $80 million to the State Highway Fund for 10 years. The money is to be used with matching federal funds when available.
Any lottery revenue collected above the $80 million, will go into the Education Enhancement Fund for the Early Childhood Learning Collaborative, the Classroom Supply Fund and/or other educational purposes.
It is expected to take a year to 18 months to set up the lottery in Mississippi. The legislation also prohibited video lottery terminals, a long-standing position of MEC.
Vibrant, dependable infrastructure is critical for maintaining public safety and promoting healthy economic development. Again, we are grateful to Gov. Bryant, Lt. Gov. Reeves, Speaker Gunn and our legislature for making an important investment in Mississippi's future. Source: Mississippi Economic Council

Mecosta County Area Chamber of Commerce Awarded Full Accreditation by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Great news! The Mecosta County Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that after a comprehensive self-review, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has awarded us full Accreditation! This prestigious honor puts us among the top 3% of chambers nationwide!

“Business leaders are a critical voice in conversations about promoting economic growth and job creation in their communities,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, U.S. Chamber vice president of Federation Relations and Institute for Organization Management. “Accreditation honors a chamber’s work to enhance the quality of life for its members and its region.”

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take 6-9 months to complete.

Chamber director, Jennifer Heinzman, said “Since we are in the top 3 Chambers in the State of Michigan again this year, the Michigan Chamber strongly encouraged us to vie for this distinction and offered to pay half of our application fee. This process was a lot of work but it gave us a chance to take a good, hard, look at ourselves and develop policies that may not have been as relevant in the past. As part of this process, we have developed an emergency evacuation plan, a style guide for marketing, a long-term benchmarking plan, a communication and marketing plan, a community crises plan, revised Board orientation packets, a legislative policy agenda, updated staff performance review materials, and an environmental scan, to name a few. We are very proud to earn this distinction and to continue advancing our Chamber for the betterment of our members!”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations. The only national program recognizing chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement, Accreditation allows us to renew, improve, and promote sound business practices, policies, and procedures.

#BestChamber Practices: Virginia Peninsula Chamber - a Business Development Chamber

A Business Development Chamber?

What is it? What does it do?

Business development is the creation of long-term value for an organization from customers, markets, and relationships.

At its heart, business development is all about figuring out how the interactions of those forces combine together to create opportunities for growth.

Long-Term Value:
Business development is about creating opportunities of value that persist over the long-term, which keep the floodgates open so that value can flow indefinitely. Thinking about business development as a means to creating long-term value is the only true way to succeed in consistently growing an organization.

Customers:
Find new ones and extract more value from current ones.

Markets:
Figure out where new customers “live” (both geographically and in terms of “buying mindset“) and find a way to reach them.

Relationships:
Build and leverage relationships founded on trust and integrity to facilitate opportunities.

As a Business Development Chamber of Commerce, we connect businesses with opportunities, providing long-term value, creating and building upon new and existing customers and relationships, while providing opportunities to expand  their markets. Long-Term Value is key to the viability of the Peninsula business community. By concentrating our efforts on the present and future business community, the Peninsula will become a premier business community. Read more: Virginia Peninsula Chamber

#Chamberheart: Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber, MBS partner for blood drive

One of the last things people thing about as they enjoy graduation ceremonies and start summer travel is the fact there is always a need to donate blood.

With that in mind, the Oxford-Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and Mississippi Blood Services will have a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 24 at the Chamber at 299 West Jackson Ave. An MBS donor coach will accept donations of blood to help people in the community as well as those in need of blood statewide.

Founded in 1979, MBS is the only nonprofit blood center headquartered in Mississippi and serves the whole state of with its supply of blood. MBS supplies blood for 42 hospitals and is the sole provider for the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

“The need for blood never goes down,” said Susan Ates, MBS public relations and communications assistant. “People who need blood can’t be put on a waiting list. Blood is one thing we cant live without.”

Hoptown lawmaker 1 of 8 Kentucky Chamber MVPs

Dave Adkisson
State Sen. Whitney Westerfield was instrumental in passing a felony expungement bill in the Kentucky Senate, where it had never before received a vote. For his efforts, the Hopkinsville lawmaker is being recognized as a Kentucky Chamber of Commerce 2016 MVP.
Altogether, the Kentucky Chamber has recognized eight legislators “who displayed conspicuous actions” that helped ensure a successful legislative session, according to a news release. In addition to championing Kentucky Chamber priorities, all eight were supportive of the Chamber’s top legislative priority — public-private partnerships — which Gov. Matt Bevin signed into law last month.
The other seven Chamber MVPs were Senate President Robert Stivers, Sens. Joe Bowen, Max Wise and Dennis Parrett and Reps. Leslie Combs, Darryl Owens and Adam Koenig.
The Chamber’s MVP award recipients displayed more than just a business-friendly voting record, according to the Kentucky Chamber, though that is the primary reason they made the list.
“These eight legislators fought for a better business climate which will help move Kentucky forward,” said Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Dave Adkisson. Read more: Kentucky New Era

#BestChamber Practices: Saginaw County Chamber Ambassadors

The mission of the Saginaw County Chamber Ambassadors is to promote the Chamber of Commerce through direct membership contact. Member retention and satisfaction are their ultimate goals.

The Ambassadors are member volunteers who actively perform a variety of services for the Chamber including public relations, member retention, new member support, and event hosting. They are the goodwill, public relations arm of the Chamber and facilitate communications between the Chamber Board of Directors, staff and the members.

Ambassadors encourage the participation of members at all Chamber functions and make new members feel included.  They act as greeters and mentors, helping to build a strong and active membership.

Ambassadors conduct hundreds of personal visits and contacts each year completing member surveys, delivering new member information, asking and answering important questions and performing a variety of tasks designed to strengthen member retention.  The information Ambassadors gather is invaluable in helping us evaluate and provide member communications, benefits and services.

Working in teams, the Ambassadors provide assistance at Chamber events in areas such as registration, greeting, and networking.  Events include ribbon cuttings, monthly ambassador meetings (generally the 2nd Tuesday of each month), grand openings, Percolator Breakfasts and Business After Hours among others.  They are also key volunteers at the Regional Business After Hours and the Chamber Golf Outing.

The commitment is great but so are the connections and community relationships that result. Ambassadors are truly the "eyes and ears" of the Chamber. More information: Saginaw County Chamber

Good morning Chamber world! Today is going to be a GREAT day!

Chamber Executive Ongoing Education Weekly New Idea: Winning With People: Discover the People Principles that Work for You Every Time - by John C. Maxwell

With more than seven million copies of 30-odd titles in print, preacher turned leadership guru Maxwell is a one-man publishing empire. His latest follows the proven format—a series of short, friendly sermons filled with plainspoken common sense. This time, Maxwell takes on interpersonal skills, saying, "All of life's successes come from initiating relationships with the right people and then strengthening those relationships by using good people skills." The book offers 25 chapter-based "People Principles" that explore how to prepare oneself for relationships, focus on others, build trust, invest in others and create win-win relationships. The quality of the content varies. Some chapters, like "The Confrontation Principle" with its six-step "road map for healthy confrontation," are concise, thoughtful and original. Others (particularly in the later sections, where the book starts to run out of steam), such as "The Partnership Principle," are more like motivational talks and offer few practical takeaways. Each principle is introduced with two to three pages featuring a familiar figure—Abraham Lincoln, Barbara Walters, Ben Franklin, Angelina Jolie, etc.—or a personal story from the author's life. Maxwell concludes each principle with a page of discussion questions, which should prove useful since the book doesn't lend itself to a cover-to-cover read and is probably best swallowed one principle at a time, with some reflection in between. - Publishers Weekly

Indiana chamber ALERT: Carmel & Fishers chambers to merge, become OneZone - a commerce connector and business advocate.

The board of directors of the Fishers and Carmel chambers of commerce have voted to merge and operate together as OneZone, a commerce connector for businesses in Fishers and Carmel.
When the merger becomes official after a Feb. 20 member ratification, Fishers and Carmel businesses will immediately have a 1,200-member chamber that can deliver more impact, business opportunities and clout than either organization could provide alone. And the cost of membership will remain the same.
Why do this? Because business and business-related issues don’t stop at municipal borders – and neither should the organization that represents business and businesspeople. Read More: In the News - Carmel Chamber

Chamber excitement: Ashland (Wisconsin) area sleuths become 'Diamond Detectives'

As mystery novel fans around the world know, one of the best parts of a good whodunit is figuring out the course of the story before the author reveals what is going on.
Ashland area residents now have their own chance to solve a mystery, and to pick up a stunning $700 diamond ring for their deductive abilities.
It’s the sixth annual “Valentine’s Diamond Detective Contest,” a promotion sponsored by the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, and the sleuthing object is a certificate for a $700 diamond ring that is hidden somewhere in the City of Ashland.
At this point, only one person knows exactly where the certificate is hidden — Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary McPhetridge — and she’s not talking.
“It’s within the City of Ashland and that’s all you are getting out of me,” she said. Read more: The Daily Press

Arkansas State Chamber Of Commerce Planning Workforce Push

The Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce is preparing a major campaign to call attention to the state’s workforce needs and opportunities, Talk Business & Politics reports. Meanwhile, legislators are preparing to consider a package of workforce-related bills.
State Chamber CEO Randy Zook said Monday that the Chamber is in the middle of raising money for a multi-year informational campaign beginning later this spring or in the early summer. He declined to say how much the Chamber would try to raise but did say it would be a multi-million dollar campaign.
“It’s going to be a major effort, and the reception for it has been nearly universal,” he said. “People get it when they realize we’ve got to do something, and people are stepping up to it.”
Zook said the effort will involve a media campaign, earned press coverage, social media promotion, and mobile activities such as a tractor-trailer that travels to schools and public events. The message, he said, will be that there are “a lot of roads to success in the U.S. economy.” Read more: UALR Public Radio

Sycamore Artillerymen receive Chamber of Commerce Award

The Illinois National Guard and artillerymen of Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery in Sycamore, Illinois, were presented with the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce Chamber Champion Award Jan. 29, at the chamber's 100th annual meeting.
The award, presented in front of more than 300 chamber members, recognized those who demonstrated outstanding contributions to the Sycamore chamber.
"Every year my staff and I pick a member, business or organization that has truly been outstanding to us and helped us - whether it's financially, volunteering or just anything we couldn't do without," said Rose Treml, executive director Sycamore Chamber of Commerce.
Treml said the unit has supported the communities Pumpkin Fest 10K for decades.
"It's just very cool and great for us to have," said Treml.
On the last Sunday in October for the past 36 years, the Sycamore unit has allowed chamber staff, volunteers and hundreds of runners and their families and friends to use the armory during the city's annual Pumpkin Fest 10k Fun Run.
"It's this spirit of community that allows us to succeed as a community," said Treml. Read more: ReadMedia

Smoke Free Kentucky talks to Grayson chamber

Carter County native Roger Cline, a representative with Smoke Free Kentucky, presented the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce with a staggering statistic at its monthly meeting — that 85 percent of women exposed to secondhand smoke can develop lung cancer.
During his presentation at Johnny’s Pizza to a room full of Grayson business representatives, he used the small restaurant as an example and asked the audience to consider the welfare of their “daughters.”
He said when thinking about restricting smoking in indoor public areas, most people think the legislation is being considerate of customers not wanting to be exposed to tobacco smoke. While this may be true, Cline said it goes a step further in protecting another demographic. “...It’s to protect these young ladies back here,” he said, referring to the waitresses who were entering in and out of the meeting area, jotting down orders and delivering meals to customers. “It’s one of those things, as they work in these areas and are breathing that smoke, it’s basically killing them,” he said. Cline then presented the crowd with a series of “what if” questions. He first asked how many chamber members present had daughters. A few raised their hands. “What if your daughter came to you and said, ‘Mom, or Dad, I’ve been offered this great job. The pay is great, the benefits are great, the retirement is great and it’s a job I think I would really enjoy doing.’ What would you say to them?’” he asked. “‘Go for it!’ What if the next statement was ‘There is an 85 percent chance I’m going to die from this job?’ Read more: Daily Independent

Chincoteague Chamber interest: At Wallops, a growing financial impact that resonates

A group of business leaders who support the missions of Wallops-area agencies is changing its name after more than a decade. The change is one telling detail from a year that saw significant strides in business activity in the Wallops area in northern Accomack County.
The name change — from the Eastern Shore Defense Alliance to the Wallops Island Regional Alliance — came about in January at a standing-room-only meeting.
"The board decided we'd outgrown the defense alliance (name). We are really representing regional interests," said Chairman Peter Bale, a leader in the unmanned aerial systems industry and senior vice President of SRS GRP.
While the defense alliance name "was tough to give up. There were a lot of people with a lot of smiles in the room" when the group approved its new appellation, Bale said.
The region is attracting increasing attention from outsiders judging by the current alliance membership, which is nearing 250.
"We get everyone from northern Delaware down through to Richmond – we've even had inquiries from Washington, D. C.," Bale said.
Government and business leaders in the region are looking for more growth in the future after a string of successes the past two years at NASA Wallops Flight Facility, and despite one major setback — the explosion shortly after liftoff in October of a rocket carrying supplies to the International Space Station on Orbital Sciences Corporation's third commercial cargo mission under a NASA contract.
