Crossroads Chamber Food & Arts Festival: 2018 Marriage Mill Couple Has Been Selected!

Congratulations to the 2018 Marriage Mill Couple! Thomas W. Rock & Pamela J. Kluck will be married during the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce Food & Arts Festival on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. The nuptials will take place at the bottom of the stairs on the Main Street side of the Old Crown Point Courthouse. Come celebrate with us!

This extraordinary couple loves the history of the Marriage Mill Celebration. Thomas is a former US History teacher who has been active in interpretive history programs on all major Civil War Battlefields for the National Park Service. Pam's interest in history started with her family having descendants that were on the Mayflower and founders of West Virginia separating from Virginia during the Civil War. They are active members of the Highland Model A Restorer's Club and have 2 Model A Fords. One is a 1929 Roadster pickup and the other a 1931 Sedan. They frequently dress in period clothes for the Model A outings and won best dressed couple on the "Joliet Rocket" steam engine excursion last year! Thomas and Pam recently attended the play "Getting Hitched" about the Marriage Mill during the 1920s in Crown Point. Pam and Thomas plan to arrive in their sedan in period clothes to get hitched at the old County Courthouse. Pam & Thomas will make a perfect couple for this historic union. Oh what fun! you won't want to miss this adventure on Friday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m.

Wisconsin law requires all litigation funding arrangements to be disclosed

Legislation signed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker last week requires all third-party litigation funding deals to be disclosed—even if a discovery request has not been made for that information.
Wisconsin Act 235 requires litigants “provide to the other parties any agreement” under which third-party funders are entitled to a share in any earnings from a civil action, settlement or judgment. The rule excludes lawyer contingent fee arrangements. According to Law360, the new law is first of its kind on the state level.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform supports the new law, saying that litigation funding both prolongs litigation and leads to more lawsuits.
“Wisconsin’s law brings litigation funding out of the shadows, so that funders in the state can’t anonymously ‘pull the strings’ of a lawsuit without other parties’ knowledge,” Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform, said in a press release.
Institute senior vice president Paige Faulk told the ABA Journal in a statement that she thinks other states will follow Wisconsin’s lead and pass similar legislation. “This law is another step in what’s become a growing movement.” Read more: ABA Journal
