Good morning #Chamber World! It's going to be a GREAT day!

MMAC report: Foxconn would add $51.5 billion to state economy over 15 years

A fully built Foxconn Technology Group plant would add $51.5 billion to Wisconsin’s gross domestic product over the 15 years the state pays incentives to the company, a new analysis by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce concludes.

That would equate to $18 of economic impact for every $1 spent by the state, the business group, which worked to help attract Foxconn, said.

Averaged over the 15 years, the MMAC's estimate amounts to an additional $3.4 billion annually in state gross domestic product from Foxconn. That would tack another 1% onto Wisconsin's current GDP of about $313 billion.

Since the recession, the state's GDP has grown at an average of 3.6% a year.

In assessing Foxconn’s impact on Wisconsin, people should look beyond the issue of how quickly Wisconsin will recoup the tax dollars provided to the firm, MMAC President Tim Sheehy said.

While that is important, the larger effects on the state’s economy of the massive Foxconn development are sometimes forgotten, he said.

“We did the study primarily because we believe (that) in the back and forth on this project that we’ve lost sight of the tremendous economic impact that can come from this project, and that it’s been so narrowly cast” in terms of when will the new tax revenue generated by Foxconn jobs cover the state’s payments to the company, Sheehy said.

“I’m not saying that’s not an applicable viewpoint,” he said. “What I’m saying is open the aperture and look at the impact this project has on Wisconsin’s economy.” Read more: Journal-Sentinel

Belleville Chamber: Hofbräuhaus plays host to its first event as it prepares to open for real in April

While the Hofbräuhaus has not yet opened its doors to the public, the German restaurant and brewery did host its first event Wednesday when the Young Professionals group of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce got a taste of the Hofbräuhaus beer and food.
The Hofbräuhaus had announced it would have a “soft opening” in early March but a date for this opening has not been released. The grand opening date previously was announced as April 18 and as of Friday, that ceremony is still planned for that date.
The chamber event on Wednesday was only for invited guests to the restaurant off Illinois 15 across from the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows.
“We got some really good feedback,” said Alex Matthews, vice president of marketing for the Hofbräuhaus’ management company. “People really seemed to enjoy the experience. That was the first event we’ve had in the building.” Read more: Belleville News Democrat

CDF celebration: Cooper Tire: 375 million tires and growing

For more than three decades, Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has been a mainstay in Tupelo’s manufacturing scene.
Having invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its plant here through the years, Cooper also has produced hundreds of millions of tires.
On Thursday, at a celebration at the Community Development Foundation, the company rolled out its 375 millionth tire.
Looking on were company officials, along with business and community leaders.
“We’ve been making tires here in Tupelo since 1984, and 375 million tires is a direct result of our folks here,” said plant manager Jim Pritchett. “This shows how well we’ve done in the previous years and that we have a very bright future ahead of us. We’ve got some things coming down the pike for this plant and we’re looking forward to making millions more tires.
The milestone tire, which will have a special spot to be displayed at the plant, is a Discoverer SRX that is a premium tire for sport utility vehicles and crossover vehicles. It was produced weeks ago – on Feb. 6, to be exact. A small group representing the 1,400 Cooper employees attended Thursday’s event.
Jerry Maxcy, president of Jesco Inc. and CDF’s first vice chairman, called Cooper, “one of Tupelo’s greatest and longest community partners.”
“Cooper Tire has created more than premium tires,” he said. “Cooper has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the Tupelo plant, they have high-paying jobs and careers that allow generations of employees a better quality of life.”
Looking at Pritchett, Maxcy said, “Cooper has done all this by focusing on the power of people, and today, we all celebrate the power of your people.” Read more: Daily Journal
