Several notable officials and business people attended a groundbreaking at the Kentucky Transpark this morning, including Gov. Steve Beshear and chief executive officers from France and Japan.

The groundbreaking marked the genesis of Constellium-UACJ Body in White Plant, a $150 million investment in an automotive aluminum sheet production facility. The venture will create 80 jobs, and the plant is designed for future expansion. Read more Park City Daily News

In an effort to help the downtown business of Chaska and Carver during the closing of Hwy 41 and 101 due to flooding, the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce invites you to participate our “Rally for Downtown Business” program. This program is available to anyone and everyone that is looking for a way to support these areas.
The program is simple: the Chamber is offering “Rally for Downtown Businesses” Gift Certificates available for purchase.  These gift certificates can be purchased at the Chamber Office in increments of $5 and given away to employees and/or customers to be redeemed at participating businesses.  Certificates can be purchased starting June 24, 2014 and redeemed through July 30, 2014.  There is no cost for businesses to participate and 100% of the gift certificate value will be redeemed by downtown businesses! Minnesota Chamber: Senator Dahms honored for economic record

Senator Gary Dahms (R – Redwood Falls) received high marks from the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce in their annual legislator rankings for his support of policies that help improve job creation and the business climate in Minnesota.

“As I visit with constituents around the district, it is clear just how important it is to get our economy back on track,” Senator Dahms noted. “I am committed to supporting policies that create a prosperous economy where everyone benefits and everyone has an opportunity for success.”

The Caro Michigan Chamber of Commerce offers tours of the Consumers Energy's Cross Winds Energy Park

The Caro Chamber of Commerce invites members of the public to tour Consumers Energy's Cross Winds Energy Park, currently under construction in Tuscola County. The chamber is offering guided tours of the $225 million wind park currently under construction in Akron and Columbia townships beginning Saturday, July 12.
Participants are to receive a safety briefing regarding transportation of large wind park equipment and a guided tour of a construction site where wind turbines are being erected, according to a Consumers Energy news release.
"We're pleased to offer this unique educational opportunity to the public," Brenda Caruthers, executive director of the Caro Chamber of Commerce, said in a prepared statement. "This experience will focus on safety, details on how a wind park is built and a guided tour of (an) actual construction site." Read more: M Live

Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) presents an informative session on how the Office of Business Development of the State of Wisconsin is your business advocate; and on the proposed amendment to the Wisconsin constitution on Wisconsin transportation funding.

Carol White, IOM, president and CEO of GBCC, said, “We’re delighted that Joe Knilans, director of the State of Wisconsin’s Office of Business Development and Craig Thompson, executive director of the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin are able to join us for this event. The GBCC legislative update series is held quarterly and typically presents a panel of officials that allows Chamber members to hear first-hand about the discussions and decisions they are involved in that affect all of us, locally and statewide.”

Chamber Awards: Are Mr. K award winners destined to sell?

Winning the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce's Mr. K award is a clear sign that a company is on an upward trajectory. It appears that course likely leads to acquisition — in the past 12 months, three of the last five winners have sold all or part of their businesses to out-of-town firms.
The Mr. K award, which is named for Kansas City entrepreneur and philanthropist Ewing Kauffman, is presented annually to the small business of the year. Read more: Kansas City Business Journal

Scattergood's Schiller named Student of Year by Iowa City Chamber

Charlotte Schiller of Elkader, a senior at Scattergood Friends School, was named one of Iowa City Chamber of Commerce’s Students of the Year at an April 23 ceremony. The Iowa City Chamber’s Education Committee presents the annual Excellence in Education awards ceremony to honor those who give generously to our schools and those who succeed as a result of those gifts.

“It has been my pleasure to serve as Charlotte’s academic dean this year,” Scattergood Academic Dean Louis Herbst said. “In my nine years as a teacher and administrator at Quaker schools, I have never seen a more well-rounded and driven student. In addition to carrying an extremely heavy course load and maintaining a nearly perfect GPA, Charlotte has spearheaded the creation and management of several student-lead programs at Scattergood Friends School.” Read more: West Branch Times
