Greater Fort Wayne Inc. Wins 2018
Indiana Chamber of the Year Award
Greater Fort Wayne (GFW) Inc. on Friday won three statewide
awards, including the 2018 Indiana Chamber of the Year Award. The state-level
honors, given by the Indiana Chamber Executives Association (ICEA) comes on the
heels of one of the best years in the organization’s history, in which Allen
County added more than $81 million in new annual payroll, and GFW Inc.’s member
recruiting and retention efforts surpassed goals.
In addition to the Chamber of the Year Award, GFW Inc. won
a pair of statewide Communications Excellence Awards: one in the Website
division, and one for Marketing Campaign for its “Opportunity on the Edge of
Greatness” 10-year vision campaign. The three awards were each judged by panels
of five judges from outside the state of Indiana.
“We exist to grow jobs, wages, and the economy, and we’re
honored that people across the state are noticing our community’s successes,”
said Eric Doden, CEO of GFW Inc. “I’m so proud of our team and our board. We
can accomplish so much for our community when we all align around a common goal
and dedicate ourselves to achieving results.”
The awards were presented as part of the ICEA’s Annual
Conference in downtown Indianapolis. Fort Wayne previously won the Chamber of
the Year award in 2003.
GFW Inc. had a highly successful 2017 in all facets of the
organization. The Allen County economy made major strides, with new jobs and
payroll entering the market as companies expanded and relocated to the area. In
total, GFW Inc. assisted companies investing a total of $242 million in Allen
County. Other commitments included:
- 28 business expansions and relocations.
- 1,838 new jobs.
- $81 million in new annual payroll.
As Allen County’s chamber of commerce, GFW Inc. counts more
than 1,300 members (investors)—the vast majority being small businesses. The
organization surpassed its goal of recruiting 100 new investors in 2017 while
increasing its retention rate to 92 percent, better than the national average
for chamber organizations.
GFW Inc. hosted 267 events in 2017, with attendance up 20
percent from the previous year and attendee satisfaction exceeding goals. Leads
groups, where professionals network and help grow business for one another, saw
participants connect colleagues with more than 400 business leads.
In its 35th year, Leadership Fort Wayne (LFW) produced a
graduating class of 63 individuals, its largest on record. LFW helps bolster
the community’s talent pipeline by providing individuals with leadership training
and education. The GFW Fellows program continues to attract and retain top
talent from universities near and far. Last year, 10 Fellows worked
project-based internships at nine local companies, getting hands-on experience
with core business functions. Many of these internships lead to full-time
employment, as about 50 percent of GFW Fellows alumni report that they
currently live and work in Allen County.
“The Greater Fort Wayne Inc. team presented a very solid
nomination for this award and excelled in all areas reviewed,” said Shelli
Williams, president of the ICEA. “This organization continues to be a leading
catalyst for professional innovation in Indiana.” Read more: Greater
Fort Wayne Inc.
Christian Maslowski named Indiana Chamber
Executive of Year
The Indiana Chamber Executives Association (ICEA) has named
Christian Maslowski, president and CEO of the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce,
the 2018 Executive of the Year.
Maslowski, no stranger in the chamber community, has been
with the Greater Greenwood Chamber for 11 years. ICEA chooses the winner based
on criteria including a minimum of three years on the job, a demonstration of
exemplary performance and leadership and demonstrated ability to lead changes
at the local chamber level.
“Christian serves as the ideal candidate for this
recognition,” said Shelli Williams, IOM, ICEA president. “He goes
above-and-beyond with a willingness to help peers succeed. Peers across Indiana
have great respect for what Christian brings to the profession.”
As president and CEO, Maslowski
focuses on community relationships and public policy efforts. In late 2016, the
Greater Greenwood Chamber forged a relationship with Business Ownership
Initiative of Indiana (BOI). The BOI offers free business coaching and
microlending, business workshops and online business courses. “They come
alongside you and make sure you’re accessible,” Maslowski said.Maslowski, who said he was “beyond flattered and
surprised”, did not even know he was up for the award until attending a recent
ICEA conference held in Indianapolis. “My name was read as a finalist and I had
no further expectation (of winning). I give gratitude to my board of directors
and staff team.”
Maslowski said he has seen more diversity, an expansion of
small businesses and a growing caliber of talent joining the chamber. In
addition, he gives credit to his local chamber team’s innovation, drive and success.
“They put members first and they support me,” he said. “We enjoy one another’s
camaraderie.
“We live and work in a dynamic, vibrant area on the
southside. This allows me and our team to be innovative, be flexible and have
fun.”
On July 26, a fun event the chamber is hosting is the
annual Chamber Golf Classic, which includes meals, games and prizes. The
social/networking event will be held at Dye’s Walk Country Club in Greenwood.
For more information, go to greenwoodchamber.com.
Maslowski is married to Michelle, an attorney for Ogletree
Deakins in Indianapolis. Christian and Michelle have two daughters: Gabriella,
6 and Ainsley, 7 months. Read more: The

Crossroads Regional Chamber School
Supply Initiative
This month, the Chamber looked to benefit our local schools. Crossroads Connects, Inc.(a 501(c)3 Corporation that was formed in 2015 with the purpose to raise, manage and render financial support for key initiatives that build a strong and sustainable future for our region) teamed up with Glen Lerner Injury Attorneys (you might know him from his billboards all around NWI) and supplied students of Miller Elementary in Merrillville with the school supplies they needed. 360 students between the grades of kindergarten and fourth grade are on free or reduced lunch. This initiative was able to provide these students with backpacks filled with folders, pencils, crayons, notebooks, highlighters, pencil boxes, dry erase markers, glue, and scissors.
The Chamber, alongside Glen Lerner, agree that no child should ever have to worry about school supplies. These 360 students received 95% of the supplies needed from this project.
Not only did we get the chance to help out children, but we were able to get out of the office and put these backpacks together. It was a win win More information: Crossroads Regional Chamber

Education and Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE), most recently
serving as the senior associate commissioner at CHE.
Bearce will officially join the Indiana Chamber on September 10.

communicate effectively. He is highly regarded in the Statehouse and in
education circles across the state, and we are excited to have him on the
Indiana Chamber team.”
Bearce has contributed to significant education policy changes
