Marion Chamber Announces 2016 Business/Industry Of The Year

Marion, Ill. - The Marion Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 2016 Business/Industry of the Year is Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.

“Hospice of Southern Illinois is proud to be the recipient of the Marion Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Business/Industry of the Year 2016 Award,” said Deborah Hogg, Community Education Manager. “It is through the time and efforts of the Marion employees that we earned this distinction. We graciously accept this Award.”

Hospice of Southern Illinois is a not-for-profit free-standing, community-based hospice provider that serves people of all ages. The organization is Medicare- and Medicaid-certified and relies on the generous support of the communities it serves. In 1981, Hospice of Southern Illinois opened its doors, pledging to enhance the quality of life for metro-east residents dealing with terminal illness by providing services in patients’ homes and other settings. During the three-and-a-half decades since its inception, the agency has provided services to more than 38,000 patients and their families across 27 counties.

Rebecca Wisdom, President and CEO, stated, “We started as a grass-roots movement to help individuals and their loved ones with a terminal illness live their end-of-life journey with peace and dignity.”

Over the years, Hospice of Southern Illinois has expanded, providing more services to a broader area of the Metro East and Southern Illinois. The Marion Team has served over 820 patients in 2016. Approximately 50 employees, including a Medical Director, Nurses, Social Workers, Spiritual/Bereavement Counselors, Hospice Aides and support staff serve the local patients. Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber asking for food donations

The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce is challenging Chamber members and the community to a “Phlash Drive Challenge” to collect as much food as they can to be donated to The Pantry, Oxford’s food bank.
“Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday,” said Chamber president Ryan Miller. “It is a time for family, reflection, and true thanksgiving for those things most precious to us. A meal shared with family and friends often lends itself to a sense of gratitude that, quite frankly, seems to be lacking the rest of the year.”
Businesses and individuals are being asked to deliver nonperishable food items to the chamber by 4 p.m. Monday. The food will be delivered to The Pantry on Tuesday morning so it can be dispersed to local families in time for Thanksgiving. Read more: Oxford Eagle

Boone County Community members honored at annual chamber banquet

Business owners, community servants and Boone County’s leaders gathered Monday night at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds for the annual Boone County Chamber of Commerce Civic Banquet.
Thirteen awards were presented to outstanding businesses and members of the community who have contributed to the county through service and commerce.
The evening began with a tribute to veterans. Michelle Wiltermood, executive director of the chamber, gave each audience member a green light bulb. The bulbs are part of the Greenlight a Vet campaign, which encourages people to keep green bulbs glowing in their homes to show veterans encouragement.
“It’s a symbol of support, hope and progress for veterans as they go about their lives,” Wiltermood said.
The presentation of awards began with the Richard G. Brown Memorial Law Enforcement of the Year award, given annually by The Lebanon Reporter to a law enforcement officer. Publisher Greta Sanderson took the stage to announce Lebanon Police Department Detective Eric Adams the 2016 winner.
Sanderson said that Adams, a six-year member of the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force and 11-year veteran of the LPD was chosen for his often thankless dedication to his job. Adams is an undercover officer who has been responsible for the arrest of 42 drug dealers this year, Sanderson said. Read more: Reporter.net
