Fox Cities Chamber Event: Enjoying German Heritage in Appleton and raising 200K for Non-Profits

More than 100,000 people celebrated German Heritage at the 35th Annual Octoberfest in Appleton.

Event attendee David McKenzie proudly displays Munich as he takes in the streets of Downtown Appleton.

"My son is actually at Oktoberfest in Munich and I want to show him that we are in the same spirit here," McKenzie said.

This year's Octoberfest has a 100 different food vendors and each one will be making donations to a non-profit organization.

"At the end of the day we get to donate $200,000 to non-profits," Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce President, Shannon Full said.

McKenzie's family might be at two different Oktoberfest but they are making sure to stay connected and celebrate together. Read more: Wearegreenbay.com

Greensburg Decatur County Chamber nominations being accepted


Nominations and applications for two coveted awards from the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce are currently being accepted. Winners will be announced at the Chamber’s annual banquet planned for Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016.
The Small Business Grant is a $1,000 grant that will be awarded to a locally-owned business located in Decatur County.
To be considered for the award, the business:
• Must be located in Decatur County
• Has been in business for at least one (1) year
• Has less than 100 employees
• Is a member of the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce in good standing
Those businesses applying for consideration should describe how the grant will be used to enhance, promote or grow the business. Also, the business should list any local or state organizations of which they are members and the business involvement and participation in the community.
Forms are available at http://www.greensburgchamber.com or by stopping by the chamber office, 314 W. Washington St., Greensburg. Deadline for submitting the application is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2016.
The Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce is also accepting nominations for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The nomination form is also available on the chamber website or at the office.
The purpose of the award is to promote the development of business owners and operators. The recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be recognized and applauded by the entire business community.
The for-profit business must operate in Decatur County.
Any type of for-profit business is eligible including ongoing seasonal businesses. The business must be in operation for at least two (2) years and the candidate must have a client/customer base of three (3) or more.
Eligible persons must be at least 18 years of age as of Oct. 1 of the current year and nominees must either be currently attending high school, graduated high school or received a minimum of a GED.
The nominee should provide three (3) references. One from a client is preferred. Read more: Greensburg Daily News

Chamber excitment: Logan County to celebrate Tobacco and Heritage Festival


More than 20,000 people are expected to converge on Russellville for the 60th annual Tobacco and Heritage Festival, which begins Thursday and runs through Oct. 8.
“Last year we had 20,000 people in the city,” Logan County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tammy Tinsley said. “This year we hope the weather will hold out and it can be bigger and better than ever.”
This year’s theme is “Bring It On Home.”
“Typically in the past, people have had reunions. There are a lot of things that happen this time of year for people who have moved away,” festival chairwoman Krystal Gunderson said. “We thought ‘Bring It On Home’ was a thing that fit with what we’re trying to do.”
The festival kicks off with the Miss Logan County Tobacco and Heritage Festival Queen’s Pageant at 7 p.m. Thursday at Russellville High School deGraffenried Auditorium at 1101 W. Ninth St. Admission is $5. The winner receives a $1,000 scholarship.
The festival has many popular activities.
Evelyn Richardson, past librarian of the Logan County Public Library and history buff, will talk about African-American history at 2 p.m. Saturday at the West Kentucky African-American Museum and Heritage Center on East Sixth Street. Logan County historian Michael Morrow is helping her organize the event. Read more: Bowling Green Daily News

Brookhaven-Lincoln County Event: Excitement building for Ole Brook Festival

There’s only one day left until the 42nd annual Ole Brook Festival gets underway in downtown Brookhaven and the excitement is building. Scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the festival is sure to be the best ever, said Katie Nations, program director for the Brookhaven-­Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce.
She said from food and artisan vendors to local entertainment, there will be something for everyone. “We will have people selling handmade woodwork,” Nations said. “We’ve got handmade duck, turkey calls, swing sets, carving boards. We have lots of fine craftsmen coming.”
In addition to the woodworkers, artists will be set up selling their creations including canvas paintings and yard art. “There will be clothing vendors, jewelry makers and kids’ face painters,” she said.
Along with all of the vendor booths, the festival will feature a variety of entertainers on the stage, which will be set up near the Chamber. Friday night’s lineup starts at 5 p.m. with Tony Norton, The Cotton­Bridge Band and Rockin’ the Keys dueling pianos and ends with Cary Hudson. Read more: Daily Leader
