Des Plaines chamber leader remembered as "all around a great lady"

Family and colleagues are remembering Barbara Ryan as a dedicated and loving woman who gave her all to help the Des Plaines business community succeed.
Ryan, 68, died Saturday after a short battle with lung cancer.
As executive director of the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce for the past decade, Ryan was always the one who came up with new ideas and brought enthusiasm to every event, friends said. She even worked from her hospital bed up until her last days.
"She was a great mom and wife. She had a lot of friends in the community and she was well loved by everybody," said her son, Jeffrey Ryan. "She was just all around a great lady."
Ryan and her husband, Richard, also were involved at St. Zachary's Catholic Church in Des Plaines, Jeffrey said. The two just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in May.
"It's hard. It wasn't a surprise, but how fast it came was the surprise," he said. "She was a fighter. She had every intention of beating this and going back to work." Read more: Daily Herald

Chamber partnership: Film crew visits Frankenmuth to promote tourism, reach international audiences

Christmas every day at Bronner's and chicken dinners at Zehnder's are among the Frankenmuth highlights in a tourism video intended to attract Canadian visitors to Michigan's Little Bavaria.
A two-man production team with Brand USA, a marketing organization established in 2010 by Congress to promote the United States as a premier travel destination, visited Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, Zehnder's of Frankenmuth and other attractions Tuesday, July 19.
In partnership with Travel Michigan and the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau, Brand USA seeks to attract more international visitors, particularly Canadians.
"We're producing a video to help promote Canadian tourism within Frankenmuth," said Brand USA Host Tyler Ham Pong while surrounded by sparkling ornaments and gleaming lights at Bronner's. Pong is a native of Ottawa, Ontario, who now is a resident of Los Angeles.
"(This) will help generate revenue for local businesses and help get Frankenmuth's story out to Canada."

The video is expected to debut online later this year, including atvisittheusa.com and on Brand USA's YouTube channel. Travel Michigan and the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau also will be able to distribute it via their own marketing channels. M LIVE
