Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Welcomes a New Partnership with Fort Eustis

The Fort Eustis U.S. Army base in Newport News has a simple motto: “Nothing happens until someone moves.” If that’s the case, be assured that someone moved — and an economic force was mobilized.
A new initiative between Fort Eustis and the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is expected to pay dividends economically for the Peninsula while protecting the viability of the Army base.
The Fort Eustis Civic Leadership Association formed earlier this summer thanks to the initiative of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and its volunteer leadership through a cooperative effort with the past and current command leadership at the longtime Newport News Army base.
VPCC President and CEO Mike Kuhns describes the partnership as an effort to both ensure the base doesn’t suffer any cuts in Pentagon cost-cutting while expanding the economic potential and reach of the base.

The genesis of the Eustis Civic Leadership Association dates back two years to an Army “listening session” with the community where no one showed up, Kuhns said, explaining that session was to showcase to the Pentagon leadership why Fort Eustis should not suffer any cuts during an Army drawdown then. That’s when the initiative was taken to start an association. Read more: Virginia Peninsula Chamber Review

Lansing (Michigan) Regional Chamber event: Kasich talks small government, praises Snyder in Michigan trip

Ohio Gov. John Kasich wrapped up a two-stop presidential campaign swing through Michigan on Tuesday at an event sponsored by the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Kasich, who is seeking the Republican nomination for president, discussed small government and state autonomy before an audience of small-business owners, business leaders and local officials.
The event marked Kasich’s fourth visit to the state since he announced his candidacy in July — the most of any presidential candidate this election season.
Kasich is currently polling 8th in the Republican field, averaging 5 percent, according to a combination of polls from RealClear Politics.
Joe Ford, chair-elect of the Lansing Regional Chamber Board of Directors, introduced Kasich and joked that despite football rivalries, Michigan and Ohio are still neighbors with shared experiences.
Ford said Michiganders can appreciate Kasich’s achievements in Ohio, as Gov. Rick Snyder has led parallel reforms in the state. Read more: The Michigan Daily
