Fairfax Chamber Applauds Virginia House of Delegates on Passage of Major Transportation Funding and Reform Bill
Legislation passes in Virginia House of Delegates on a vote of 96-2
Today, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber) applauds the bipartisan support and passage of HB1877, a major transportation funding and reform bill, in the Virginia House of Delegates.

HB1877 was patroned by Delegate Chris Jones (R-Suffolk) and supported by Governor Terry McAuliffe and Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne. The legislation provides an additional $40 million annually for transit projects (based on FY 2021). In addition, the Northern Virginia transportation district would receive an increase of $4.6 million under the new funding formula.

Jim Corcoran, president & CEO of the Fairfax Chamber issued the following statement:

“Today the Fairfax Chamber and the Northern Virginia business community are celebrating the passage of HB1877, a bill that provides critical funding to Northern Virginia transportation projects.

The Fairfax Chamber supports a multimodal approach to solve Virginia’s transportation crisis and we strongly believe that transit is part of that solution. The passage of this legislation shows commitment to enhancing opportunities to improve regional mobility and economic development for the region and the entire Commonwealth.

We appreciate the work of Delegate Jones, Governor McAuliffe, Secretary Layne, and the House of Delegates on the passage of this landmark transportation bill. We look forward to its favorable consideration in the Virginia Senate.”

Fayetteville Chamber forum: Governor's plans draw praise from Northwest Arkansas legislators

Northwest Arkansas legislators gave bipartisan praise to the tax and health care proposals of newly elected Gov. Asa Hutchinson at a Friday afternoon forum hosted by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce.
"The governor, I think, has his act together," said Sen. Uvalde Lindsey, D-Fayetteville, a former budget director for then-Gov. Bill Clinton. Hutchinson's tax cut proposals are well thought out and realistic, Lindsey said.
Hutchinson, a Republican, also announced Thursday he supports a two-year renewal of the state's private option health care plan. That decision was realistic, Lindsey and others said.
"I'm very impressed with the way he handled that," said Rep. Charlie Collins, R-Fayetteville, about the private option announcement. The plan has Democratic support but there's opposition among Republicans, the majority party. Hutchinson's handling of what could have been a divisive issue in his own party has been first-rate, Collins said, with no angry breaches. "I'm in awe of how he handled that," Collins said.
Hutchinson proposed a $100 million cut in the state income tax, a cut modified down to an overall impact of $80 million on the state budget by a Senate amendment that would forego a planned $20 million cut in the capital gains tax approved in the last regular legislative session.
