Langley Air Force Base 100th Anniversary Gala
This year the 100th Anniversary of Langley Air Force Base is being celebrated by the City of Hampton and Join Base Langley-Eustis. Langley Air Force Base is one of the earliest military bases in America specifically built for air power. Today Langley is the oldest continually active air force base in the world, and is the oldest airfield in Virginia.
In partnership with the City of Hampton, the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the Langley Air Force Base 100th Anniversary Gala to be held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center on Saturday, September 17, 2016. This is a Black Tie event, which will include cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, and keynote speaker General Herbert J. “Hawk” Carlisle, Commander, Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. Full Spectrum – The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band will be performing a musical tribute, and DJ Gator will provide the entertainment for the evening. We hope to provide 200 Airmen with tickets to the event, at no charge to them through sponsorships.

Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce Hosts New Teacher Luncheon
The new teachers and administrators from the Crown Point and Merrillville School Corporations were welcomed to the area and treated to a delicious lunch, generous goodie bag filled with supplies, entertainment, and a chance to win one of 30 door prizes donated by Crossroad Regional Chamber of Commerce members, at the Annual New Teacher Luncheon. The teachers were grateful for the welcoming spirit of the event and are now looking forward to the 2016/17 school year.

Officials discuss ideas, reforms at Lake Zurich Area Chamber legislative breakfast
Republican county and state officials shared updates and possibilities on a variety of topics Thursday at a legislative breakfast hosted by the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce.
Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor was joined by 26th District state Sen. Dan McConchie, of Hawthorn Woods, who was appointed in April to fill the seat left open by Dan Duffy's resignation, and 51st District state Rep. Ed Sullivan Jr., of Mundelein, who has served 14 years but is not seeking another term.

The speakers poked Democratic counterparts at times during discussion of state budget, pension and other issues. However, for the most part, the discussion and question-and-answer session was more a straightforward look at how things came to be and how they might be addressed. The 40 guests included many elected officials or staff from local governments.
Roskam focused on business issues and the Republican blueprint for tax reform. He said the tax code, last updated in 1986, is out of date in a business environment that has changed dramatically.
"We've got a tax code that's not working for us," he said. "Let's reform it and let's update it." Simplifying the tax code, consolidating credits to reduce the tax rate, reforming the IRS and basing government regulation on facts rather than "politics and bumper stickers" were other needed actions, according to Roskam.
At the state level, financial uncertainty is affecting the county budgeting process, Lawlor said, as about $135 million in revenue of the $414 million budget comes from or is funneled through the state. County department heads have been asked to submit scenarios with 2 percent and 5 percent cuts across the board, he added. Lawlor said a push to consolidate agencies, such as drainage districts or dispatch centers, continues to improve efficiency and save money. Daily Herald

Columbus-Lowndes Chamber: 'Educators Are Essential' tour continues
It’s hard to believe but kids are all ready heading back to school.
The Columbus-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce continued its Educators Are Essential tour Wednesday morning. The Chamber was at Annunciation Catholic School and the Golden Triangle Early College High School.
This is an annual event to let educators know the community supports them. They were given gift cards, a free hotel stay, discounts at local stores and gift baskets.
“This is such a fantastic way to start the school year with so much excitement and enthusiasm," GTECHS Director Jill Savely said. "We’re a fairly new school. This is just our second year of operations so to be included in the celebration means a lot to us as educators.”

Livonia chamber event focuses on other cultures
A ground-breaking business program is coming to Livonia in September to foster better local business relationships with companies led by people from foreign cultures.
Connecting Cultures to Business is a Livonia Chamber of Commerce luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, at the Schoolcraft College VisTaTech Center. The program features a panel discussion with leaders of local business groups supporting Asian Pacific, German, Chaldean, and Hispanic communities.
The program is sponsored by NYX Inc., Schoolcraft College, and Fausone Bohn LLP.
“Experts tell us that communities that do the best job of welcoming foreign investment will have the best opportunities for future economic development,” said Dan West, president of the Livonia Chamber of Commerce. “This is a step in better positioning Livonia and our neighbors to welcome opportunities here for foreign-based companies.”
The panel includes Van Nguyen, executive director of the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce; Reinhard Lemke, an international business attorney who represents AmCham Germany; Martin Manna, the president of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce, and Camillo Suero, president of the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Twin Lakes Area Chamber announces two August events
The Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association has announced two upcoming events in August, the 26th Annual Golf Outing along with the Business in the Park and Car Show/Village Block Party.
Volunteers, sponsors needed
The annual golf outing held Wednesday, August 17 at Twin Lakes Country Club is in need of volunteers, business sponsors and donations for raffle items.
Volunteers are needed for areas including, but not limited to, registration and hole spotters.
Cost of sponsoring each hole is $100, with $75 for those who have sponsored before, and $200 for a green and $175 for returning sponsors.
Raffle items include wine and restaurant gift certificates, goodie bags items, or those up for silent auction.

Village Block Party
Business in the Park and Car Show is set for August 27 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with a Village Block Party to follow.
