The Government Affairs Manager is responsible for developing and executing an aggressive, non-partisan government affairs program to support business growth, increased tax base, and enhanced prosperity in the Quad Cities region as part of the Chamber’s advocacy team. This position is the eyes and ears of public affairs for the Chamber, always on the lookout for opportunities and challenges at the local, state or federal level that could impact the Quad Cities’ success. Both as strategists and a doer, this team serves as strategic advisors to the staff, Chamber members, Chamber Board, Quad Cities First, Downtown Davenport Partnership, Moline Centre Main Street Commission, Business Advocacy Council and Quad Cities Defense Alliance, among others, ensuring that government affairs efforts align with their needs. In addition, this role is directly responsible for all local government activity, including military affairs.
Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.

- Contribute to and manage a comprehensive government affairs work plan and budget that addresses the needs and priorities of the business community and the region.
- Collaborate with Communications team to develop and execute a communications plan to keep the Chamber board, staff, members, elected officials and others informed and engaged in support of the work plan -- to include annual Public Policy Priorities documents.
- Identify and / or respond to local issues – particularly in Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Scott and Rock Island Counties - that impact business climate, economic growth or regional priorities.
- Actively build and maintain working relationships with mayors, city councils, county boards on behalf of the Chamber.
- Orchestrate volunteer involvement in one-on-one /small group meetings, letters to the editor, phones calls, correspondence and presentations with local government staff and officials.
- Track elected officials’ and candidates’ positions / votes, using Chamber website, newsletters, scorecards, candidate surveys and forums, and other mechanisms to educate and inform members.
- Work toward continuous quality improvement
- Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures
- Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Business, Public Policy, Communications or Public Relations preferred
- Five or more years’ experience leading Public Affairs initiatives, including community development, government and military affairs
- Must possess a valid driver’s license

Put your skills to work as a Business Advisor with the Regional Small Business Development Center. The SBDC is an organization whose mission is to provide counseling and educational services to both existing businesses and start-ups in the New River Valley. This is an NRV-focused position, working out of an office located in the NRV, with a significant amount of time spent in the field as well. Self-motivation and self-direction are essential, as you will be working independently as part of a small regional team. Knowledge of the NRV “landscape” and an existing network with partners and potential partners will be extremely helpful.
Applicants should be fluent with the Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with a CRM platform will be helpful as well. Experience working with business plans, P&L statements, financing, sales, and operations will be integral to your ability to succeed in this position.

Summary: The Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce Marketing and Communication intern will help assist in maintaining and growing the Chamber’s communication network. They will interface with members and the Account Manager to provide follow through of chamber commitments.
