Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce moves forward with merger

About a month of after they decided to explore the possibilities of merging with Elevate Rapid City, Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce board voted Thursday, to move forward with the merger.
This merger will put the Chamber of Commerce, Elevate Rapid City, Economic Development Partnership and Economic Development Foundation under one umbrella. This means that they will be a one stop shop to enhance and further their vision of economic development and business growth for Rapid City and improving the quality of life.
"This will be a different way to approach economic development and business retention," said Linda Rabe, president of Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce. "We've got main pillars that we want to really focus on and that's workforce development and getting some new employees and jobs in town also to focus on Ellsworth Air Force Base, the retention and expansion of that. So it gets us all together working on the same issues which I think there will be a lot of energy and synergy and it should be exciting."
Pending thorough review and legal counsel, there is not a date set for when the merger will be complete. Mayor Steve Allender has pledged $2 million dollars to the new venture over a 5 year period, pending on council approval. See more: KOTA TV

Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Wins the Gateways for Growth Challenge

New American Economy (NAE) and Welcoming America have selected the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce (NKY Chamber) to receive a Gateways for Growth award in the third year of the initiative. Launched in December 2015, the Gateways for Growth Challenge is a competitive opportunity for local communities to receive tailored research, direct technical assistance, and matching grants from New American Economy and Welcoming America to develop concrete strategies to integrate immigrants, foster economic growth, and promote inclusion for all residents. This year’s awardees, alongside the NKY Chamber include:
·      Bowling Green, Kentucky
·      Cedar Rapids, Iowa
·      Charlotte, North Carolina
·      Flint, Michigan
·      Grand Rapids, Michigan
·      Lexington, Kentucky
·      Lowell, Massachusetts
·      Memphis, Tennessee
·      Roanoke, Virginia
·      San Antonio, Texas
·      Toledo-Lucas County, Ohio
·      Wayne County, Michigan

The new Gateways for Growth cohort demonstrate a commitment to develop concrete strategies that ensure all residents have access to the tools and support they need to succeed and contribute to their communities, and to highlight the contributions immigrants are already making locally. As of 2017, approximately 12,034 immigrants lived in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties, according to the Northern Kentucky Tri-County Economic Development Corporation (NKY Tri-Ed).

“The facts prove it—cities that embrace immigration as a growth strategy reap the benefits,” said John Feinblatt, President of New American Economy. “The Gateways for Growth Challenge spurs more local leaders to step up and make immigration a centerpiece of their economic agenda.”

Awardees receive a combination of research, technical assistance, and matching grants from New American Economy and Welcoming America to support the development of welcoming strategies. The NKY Chamber received a matching grant of $12,500 from New American Economy and the matching grant dollars of $12,500 from Duke Energy for a total of $25,000.Gateways for Growth also serves as a network in which local communities can learn from each other and share best practices.

The NKY Chamber, through the GROW NKY initiative, will utilize the $25,000 grant to develop a multi-sector strategic plan on immigrant integration that aligns existing efforts throughout the region to create a comprehensive, integrative approach centered on the three northernmost Kentucky counties. Partners in the grant include Northern Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, Duke Energy, Gateway Community and Technical College and Catholic Charities of Louisville, Kentucky - Office for Refugees.

“Welcoming America is delighted to be working with a growing number of local leaders like these that are fueling a movement of inclusion, recognizing that communities are more cohesive and more prosperous when everyone who lives there feels like they belong. Gateways for Growth is an important opportunity for local governments, business, and civil society to come together to develop the plans, programs, and policies to promote a welcoming home for all,” said Rachel Peric, Executive Director of Welcoming America. The Troy Chamber of Commerce Celebrates 60th Anniversary

Celebrating 60 years of growth for both the Chamber and the city it serves.

2019 marks the Troy Chamber of Commerce’s 60th Anniversary. Established in 1959, the Chamber is proud and appreciative of the longevity it has held within the business community of Troy, MI. It has spent 60 years helping the Troy business community grow and in turn their growth has led businesses to give back to the community which strengthens the economy. When Edward Rusin first founded the Chamber in 1959 there were fewer than 100 businesses in Troy and today the area boasts 6,146.

This year will be a chance for the Chamber to look back at its history within the community and continue to enhance its program to best serve its members. In 60 years, the names and faces of the Chamber may have changed, but it’s focus hasn’t - providing our members unique opportunities that are meant to grow their business.

“Troy Chamber is as relevant to the business community today as it was in 1959,” says Ara Topouzian, President & CEO of the Troy Chamber. “Serving our members to help them grow their business has been our main directive for the past 60 years. I look forward to celebrating our year-long birthday with our members!”

The Troy Chamber will be celebrating its 60th anniversary all year-long and asks that its members join in! Whether it be through following the Chambers social media platforms or by attending one of the 70+ events the Chamber offers. 2019 will showcase new Chamber programming along with some new events throughout the year. Events that are grander yet remain focused on offering networking opportunities that allow members face-to-face interaction which leads to stronger relationships.

Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber: Get ready for car show, Mardi Gras mashup

Two popular downtown events will collide March 2, and tourism officials hope it will bring great results.
The annual Goin’ to Town Car Show, presented by the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce with help from Fielder’s Pro Shop and the Ole Brook Cruisers, will open that morning and run into the afternoon. When it’s over, it will be time for the third annual Downtown Jazzed Up Mardi Gras parade and street dance, which is sponsored by the Chamber and the Brookhaven Tourism Council.
That makes for a full day of free, family-friendly entertainment, said Chamber Program Director Katie Nations.
The car show is usually the first Saturday of March and the Mardi Gras event is the Saturday before Fat Tuesday. This year the two dates are the same.
“It’s sort of a happy accident,” Nations said. The events’ organizers hope to use that to their advantage. Read more: Daily Leader
