Good morning #Chamber World! It's going to be a GREAT day!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Find out what it means to Muskegon chamber's new chair

The theme at the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce for next two years is RESPECT.
The acronym stands for "Relationships. Education. Service. Play. Environment. Commerce. Tradition." It's the brainchild of Lee Coggin, new chamber board chair and president of Baker College of Muskegon.
"I wanted to dovetail on the Watch Muskegon campaign, and make sure we understand the diversity of businesses and people in the area," he said. "The RESPECT campaign reflected that perfectly."
The theme also will encourage members and the community to engage in tough conversations without being adversarial, Coggin said. The chamber will encourage people to come together and find common ground.
"It reflects concern about not our community, but about some of the activities we've witnessed on a national level," said Cindy Larsen, chamber president. "Every time you see a protest that involves a fight, that means people are not being respectful of other's opinions."
The hope is that in the small community of Muskegon and surrounding areas, people are able to disagree respectfully, she added.  Read more: M LIVE

Nominate Outstanding Community Members for the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance Health Promoter Awards

Williamsburg, VA –The Health Committee of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance is looking for nominations for the Health Promoter Award. Acknowledging that health is about individual choices and having the opportunity to make healthy choices, the award will recognize annually an individual, organization, or business that helps create opportunities for members of our community to live healthier  lives. We encourage anyone from the community to offer nominations of any individual, organization, or business by May 15, 2017.
Nominators are invited to explain to the committee both what their nominee has done, why and how it promotes a healthy community. There are no strict criteria for this award other than the nominee should not be in the health care business (defined loosely as those who receive monetary compensation for health-related services.) Acknowledging that health care organizations and professionals are worthy of praise, this award is directed at those individuals, organizations or businesses that promote health even though it is not their primary purpose or business.
Below are examples of the type of activities that may be considered. These are only a few examples, and the committee encourages broad thinking about health and the creation of opportunities to live healthier lives.
Has the individual, organization or business provided meaningful support in these areas:

•The creation of environments or items that enable others to live healthier lives;

•Access to healthy food for those who might not otherwise have it;

•Better access to health care for employees or other groups of individuals;

•Groups or nonprofits working in health-related fields;

•Respite care for those caring for elderly, terminally ill, handicapped, or chronically ill.

Please complete the nomination form to be emailed to phillips@williamsburgcc.com or physically mailed to GWCTA, 421 N. Boundary Street, Williamsburg, VA 23185 by 5:00pm May 15, 2017 to the attention of Tiffany Phillips. U.S. Senator Ron Johnson calls for fiscal discipline at Milton tri-chamber event

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson disparaged federal regulations and advocated for increased local government control in a talk Friday at Milton City Hall.
The Milton Area Chamber of Commerce, Forward Janesville and the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce hosted the joint question-and-answer session. The invite-only event was limited to chamber members and local officials.
Prioritize spending, eliminate wasteful regulations and decrease the size of the federal government—that was the crux of Johnson's message to those in attendance.
Many questions revolved around economic issues such as tax reform. Johnson called it “tax simplification” because not all reform is positive, but he acknowledged the process wouldn't be simple.
Most politicians want to lower rates and broaden the tax base, but that doesn't work because different interest groups are too entrenched, he said. Instead, Johnson called for a “paradigm-shifting approach” that would avoid using the tax code to enact social and economic reform. Read more: Gazette Extra

Kyndle FAME recruiting students at April 25 event

Kyndle FAME (Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) will host a Student Recruitment Event 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25 at Henderson Community College. All prospective student participants, family, and interested community members are invited to attend.

Industry representatives from the Kyndle FAME Chapter will be on hand to discuss Advanced Manufacturing career opportunities—and other program participation benefits. HCC staff and faculty will be available to assist and answer questions related to the Kyndle FAME program application, college enrollment requirements and financial aid.

The Kyndle FAME program is an opportunity to earn an Associate’s degree in five semesters, work at a sponsoring company while you learn, and complete the program with little to no debt.

The FAME model is based on the nationally noted Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program. Interested Kyndle FAME applicants must be high school graduates (or equivalent) and be willing to participate in the program’s 40 hour per week, apprenticeship-style format. If selected, students will attend college two days a week while working three days a week at the sponsoring company. In as few as 18 months (5 semesters), participants can earn an Associate in Applied Science degree. Plus, with the practical skills gained during the paid work experience, individuals may get a full-time job with the sponsoring company. Or, they may decide to further their technical education to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

The Kyndle FAME program blends classroom instruction with onsite work experience at the manufacturing facility of a sponsoring company. Classes will be offered at Henderson Community College’s Henderson Campus. Along with the college admission application, company personnel may review and select potential students on the following criteria:
Academic Success: measured through grades and class rank.
Math Capability: measured through test scores such as ACT, KYOTE, etc.
Drug Free: commitment to remaining absolutely drug-free.

Current employer members of the Kyndle FAME Chapter include: Air Hydro Power, Audubon Metals, Big Rivers Electric Corp., Cresline Plastic Pipe, Gibbs Die Casting, Hydro Aluminum, International Paper, River View Coal and Vibracoustic.

For further information about the Kyndle FAME Recruitment event, please contact Kyndle ED Coordinator Donna Crooks at (270) 826-7505 or HCC’s Kyndle FAME Recruiter, Kaycee Garner, kgarner0026@kctcs.edu, (270) 831.9659. Read more: Lane Report

Statewide dinner parties invite Hoosiers to discuss how we know what we know: “Chew on This: Are You Sure?” will feature simultaneous conversations in restaurants on May 9 as part of Indiana Humanities’ Quantum Leap theme that collides the STEM fields with the humanities

INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2017)—Hoosiers are invited to participate in a unique conversation model at restaurants across the state to discuss the nature of evidence and the ways we decide if it is reliable and valid. On May 9, Indiana Humanities will host simultaneous dinner conversations from 6:30-8 p.m. called “Chew on This: Are You Sure” at nearly a dozen restaurants from Valparaiso to Jasper. At each location, the table’s conversation will be led by an expert facilitator, someone who grapples with questions about evidence, truth and validity every day, and why they matter.

“We love programs where people gather around a shared meal because it breaks down barriers and encourages conversation,” said Keira Amstutz, president and CEO of Indiana Humanities. “How do we know if something is true? What counts as evidence? How we answer these questions as individuals and as a society affects the choices we make—everything from how we read the news and vote, to how we choose the foods we eat and make healthcare decisions, to how our leaders set policy for the economy, the environment and more.”

Ticket prices range from $20-35 depending on the restaurant, and include the meal, a non-alcoholic drink, tax and tip. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase for an additional cost at most locations. Space is limited and registration is required at https://chewonthisareyousure.eventbrite.com.

“The question of how we know what we know bridges both the sciences and the humanities, making it perfect for Indiana Humanities’ new thematic initiative Quantum Leap,” said Dr. Alan Johnson, former dean of Vincennes University—Jasper Campus. “I’m looking forward to hearing what curious and thoughtful Hoosiers have to say about this topic, and how I can relate it to my own experience.” Johnson will facilitate one of the conversations in Jasper.

Chew on This is a program designed by Indiana Humanities to use the power of food and drink as a convener of people and catalyst for conversation to inspire thoughtful discussion on engaging topics. At multiple locations across the state, groups of 10-15 diners share a meal and conversation led by a trained facilitator.

Indiana Humanities is partnering with Yelp on this event.

Facilitators include:

• Andy Cullison, Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University | Greencastle

• Jane Ellery, Wellness Management, Ball State University | Muncie

• Jonathan Elmer, English, and William Hetrick, Neuroscience, Indiana University | Bloomington

• Mel Fox, Indiana State Museum and Central Indiana Science Outreach | Indianapolis

• David Hoppe, Writer and Editor | Valparaiso

• Alan Johnson, Vincennes University—Jasper | Jasper

• Jason Kelly, IUPUI Arts & Humanities Institute | Indianapolis

• Stephen J. Ruberg, Advanced Analytics & Global Statistical Sciences, Eli Lilly and Company | Indianapolis

• Winni Sullivan, Religious Studies, and Elaine Monaghan, Media Studies, Indiana University | Bloomington

• Susanne Wasson, Dow AgroSciences | Carmel

• Deanna Wooley, IPFW Department of History | Fort Wayne

Participating restaurants include:

• Indianapolis: Rooster’s Kitchen, Repeal

• Carmel: Table at Market District

• Bloomington: Finch’s Brasserie, Feast

• Fort Wayne: J.K. O’Donnell’s

• Greencastle: Almost Home Restaurant

• Muncie: Vera Mae’s
