Former Blackford County economic development leader Jacob Everett joins Indy Partnership as Senior Director of Economic Development

Regional business attraction initiative ramps up as the Indy Chamber pursues ‘Accelerate Indy’ economic strategy

INDIANAPOLIS, April 5, 2017: The Indy Partnership, the business attraction and marketing initiative for the nine-county Indianapolis metro, has hired Jacob Everett – former Executive Director of the Blackford County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) – as a Senior Director of Economic Development. Everett joins a growing team as the Indy Chamber (the Indy Partnership’s parent organization) pursues a more expansive economic development agenda.

Everett comes to the Indy Partnership from a five-year tenure with the Blackford County EDC, where he also served on the East Central Indiana Regional Partnership Board and as President of the East Central Indiana Development Council. Blackford County’s unemployment rate has dropped more than 40% since he took the helm as Executive Director of the EDC in 2012. Previously, he was Director of Planning and Research for the Alliance for Strategic Growth/Eastern Indiana Workforce Investment Board.

“Jacob will be a great asset to the Indy Partnership as we promote our region to employers and investors across the country and around the world,” said Maureen Donohue Krauss, the Indy Chamber’s Chief Economic Development Officer. “He’s led a successful local economic development organization, and also worked within a regional coalition; given our increasing focus on talent, his workforce development experience will be invaluable.”

The Indy Chamber’s Accelerate Indy regional strategy prioritizes issues like an educated, career-ready workforce, an innovative business environment and a competitive quality of life to appeal to growing employers, particularly in high-wage, high-tech industries. It also emphasizes existing business support and retention along with entrepreneurial development as drivers of job creation and new investment. Read more: Indy Chamber

Recruiting Veterans into Local Workforce is Focus of Paducah Chamber Breakfast

Recruiting veterans to the local workforce is the topic of the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce ‘Power in Partnership’ Breakfast on Thursday.

Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs Executive Director Colonel Blaine Hedges will discuss the ‘untapped resource’ of service men and women as they leave Fort Campbell and Fort Knox. Josh Blanton of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development will also talk about project management, policy and oversight training incentives.

The U.S. Department of Labor said as of March, the veteran unemployment rate is 3.9 percent.

The event is Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Julian Carroll Convention Center. The cost is $15 for members of the chamber and $25 for those who are not members. Read more: WKMS

Chamber event: Taste of Ocean Springs tickets on sale now, will go fast

The event is under the oaks at the L&N Depot at the entrance to downtown — the Taste of Ocean Springs Food & Wine Festival.

More than 20 restaurants bring their creations for sampling. People get dressed up for this, even though it’s outdoors.

Tickets just went on sale and are going fast, as always — $50 at the Chamber of Commerce office, 1000 Washington Avenue (in the Depot) or with Chamber board members, while supplies last.

Only 500 will be sold.

The festival will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 11.

What you get is a chance to try it all: The best of what Ocean Springs restaurants — the Coast’s dining Mecca — have to offer.

Mayor Connie Moran said she went back to the Vestige table seven times last year for the shrimp in butter sauce. It won the People’s Choice Award.

Attire ranges from business casual to dressy.

“It’s not formal,” said Chamber Executive Director Cynthia Dobbs Sutton, but it’s dressy for Ocean Springs. “We partner with our local retail shops and ask them to decorate their windows with clothing in black, white and red so as people buy their tickets, they see the options of where they can buy their outfit for the event.”

Black, white and red are the colors the Chamber came up with when it started the festival nine years ago. Read more: Sun Herald

Arlington Chamber: Small Business Roundtable: Break the Rules and Close More Business

Wednesday, April 26, 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Chamber Board Room

Register Here!

The way people buy is far different from how most people were taught to sell. At this month's Small Business Roundtable, "Break the Rules and Close More Business," Nema Semnani of Sandler Training of Northern Virginia will discuss the disconnect between the traditional selling methodology, and how the psychology impacting how people buy is the primary cause of much of the challenges and frustrations most people face when selling. Through real world examples and a group discussion, she will explain the reasons for why this is, how we got to this point, and what can be done about it.

The roundtable is free to members but space is limited and registration is requested. For registration questions, please contact Hannah Dannenfelser at chamber@arlingtonchamber.org or (703) 525-2400.

Forward Janesville keynote speaker: One-on-one with Greg Hughes

Janesville native Greg Hughes was the special keynote speaker at Forward Janesville's annual dinner Tuesday night. Hughes is the Senior Vice President of Communications for NBC Sports.

The Craig High School and University of Wisconsin graduate shared stories about his career. He spoke to more than 700 business owners at the event.

"All these people get behind one thing which is to make this area vital and working and prosperous. I'm honored to be a part of that. I keep a close eye on my team and I'm a Packer fan too and so I have to mute myself when we have a Packer game although everyone around me knows, oh he's with the Packers. Whenever somebody asks me where I'm from i tell them Janesville, Wisconsin. I lived in Atlanta for 25 years and now I'm in the northeast for 5 and a half years, but Janesville's home, " said Greg Hughes.

Hughes also said he comes home to Janesville about six times a year. Read more: NBC 15
