Chamber Best practices: Great food makes great events! --- from Pat McGaughey, www.chambermentor.com
Introduce the Chef to your audience.
Have you ever been to a meeting where the food was bad? What do you remember about that meeting? The same is true when the food was great; so focus on food for successful meetings.
As you prepare for any event, tell the chef at the restaurant or conference center that you would like to introduce her or him to the audience. This tells them you want to be proud of the meal before it is served and it always ups their game.
This also puts personal and professional pressure on the chef when they know the audience will know who is responsible for the food. The introduction also shows the audience how much you (the host) cares about their experience.
There's nothing like focusing on the ego of a Chef to increase the odds of having a great meal for your events and meetings. Great food. Great meeting.

Chamber initiative: 'Leadership St. Joseph County' begins Jan. 27
If you’re looking to sharpen your leadership skills, you won’t have to look far.
A series of leadership classes is coming to St. Joseph County.
“Leadership St. Joseph County 2016” begins Jan. 27.
The nearly year-long initiative is brought to you by Sturgis and Three Rivers Area chambers of commerce.
More than a year ago, during a quarterly update, Michigan Chamber of Commerce president challenged each chamber in the state to create leaders in their communities. With both sets of chambers having been approached by many in the past for the need of leadership development in the area, the challenge by the state seemed to be a no-brainer.
In early 2015, Christy Trammell, president/CEO of Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, connected with Cathi Abbs, executive director at Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, and the two departments began planning for Leadership St. Joseph County.
“Leadership St. Joseph County is designed to help build leadership skills both in the work environment and in the community,” Abbs said.
According to Trammell, St. Joseph County is run by many volunteers. Leadership St. Joseph County will give them the tools they need to become better leaders.
For Abbs, Leadership St. Joseph County is designed for all levels of leadership.
“We don’t want people to think you need to have a title to be a part of (Leadership St. Joseph County),” she said. Read more: Sturgis Journal
