Candlelight Christmas, Creche Lighting Return To Plainfield
The events coincide with Small Business Saturday.
The holiday season will officially arrive in Plainfield with the Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Candlelight Christmas event, set for 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25. The event coincides with the Plainfield Lions Club's 66th annual creche lighting at Plymouth Congregational Church, 24022 W. Lockport St.
Participating downtown businesses will offer pictures with Santa, sleigh rides, crafts, dance performances, letters to Santa and more. The event coincides with Small Business Saturday, a movement created to offset the hype of Black Friday by encouraging shoppers to patronize small local businesses.
The creche lighting begins with an indoor Christmas carol sing-a-long at 6:45 p.m., followed by the lighting outside Plymouth Congregational at 8 p.m. According to the church, "the program will include traditional hymns, the Christmas story from the Scriptures, and music from our special guest artists," including the Spectrum Youth Singers, directed by Oksana Rodak, and the Plainfield East High School Madrigal Singers in colorful Renaissance costumes, directed by Alexandria Kordele.
Community members are invited to gather near the life-size Nativity scene, which will be illuminated as as "Silent Night' is sung by all. Read more: Patch

The Certified Technology Parks (CTP) program was created as a tool to support the attraction
and growth of high-technology business in Indiana and promote technology transfer
opportunities. Designation as a CTP allows for the local recapture of certain state and local

parks can serve to aggregate resources and incubate high-tech entrepreneurial enterprises,
fostering start-ups and aiding their growth through support, resources and collaboration. This
helps to create new businesses and new jobs, typically in technology-driven sectors

Baileys Harbor: Adopt a Tree program on the horizon
It’s hard to believe but Thanksgiving is next week and after that, of course, here comes Christmas.
You’ll notice that the Christmas trees are going up around town this week. Once again, the Baileys Harbor Community Association is sponsoring their “Adopt a Tree” decorating contest.
Last year almost 40 trees were adopted by businesses and families.
The only rules are that you decorated the tree by Nov. 27. You can decide on the theme, provide your own lights or use some of the BHCA’s lights and undecorated the trees by New Year’s Day. The trees will all be lit on Dec. 2.
Last year’s winner was a Packer tree decorated by The Harbor Girls. If you would like to get in on the fun, contact the Baileys Harbor Community Association at 920-839-2366. Read more: Green Bay Press-Gazette

Hotels added to the Metro create jobs, more options for guests
New hotels have been constructed in many areas around the Metro.
“Most of it is because of the business,” said Duane O’Neill, the President, and CEO of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership. “Some type of business community or state government that people are here, some of it is recreational but it’s the uptick in people coming to Jackson in the Jackson area is really high.”
There are hotels under construction from Jackson to Clinton, Flowood, Ridgeland, and Madison. Many other projects have recently been completed, and more are on the way.
Developers of the Homewood Suites in Fondren say one reason to build is because of the hospitals in the area.
“There are six major medical facilities around Fondren,” said Chico Patel, CEO of Heritage Hospitality Group. “We feel like when people come into town, they don’t have a good option of a nice upscale hotel nearby where they can just commute. Being an extended stay hotel, we contacted several hospitals, and there’s a huge demand for multi-night staying in this area, so we feel very confident this hotel is going to perform very well.”
With two new museums opening up next month, O’Neill says that too will help draw more people to the area.
The new hotels aren’t just for housing and attracting guests to the area; they are also creating jobs. Patel’s Fondren project will create 100 to 125 construction jobs and up to 25 jobs when the hotel opens. More information: WJTV

Chamber member spotlights are a great way to make your members feel valued. To make the most of them there are several things you will want to avoid:
DON’T write a life history.
Chamber member spotlights should not be a biography. They should have helpful tips, lessons learned, interesting anecdotes, and advice for other members. Your members are more interested in learning this person accomplished along their path to success, not their life history. They will want to know about their business and what they did to make themselves successful and stand out. People want to see members represented that they can look up to and learn from, not read a lengthy biography of the person with no helpful tips for their own business.DON’T pick a member who is not open to mentoring your newer members.
These spotlights are marketing tools for members’ businesses, but they should also be used as a networking opportunity. People will naturally read them in order to figure out how the spotlighted business has been successful. If you’re going to share an obstacle they’ve overcome, you absolutely must find out if they’re willing to share their celebrity “tricks.” They will be seen as mentors or people who have made it whether they want to or not.By picking members willing to mentor new members, you are providing a service not just to the person being featured, but to your other members as well. You are introducing them to someone who is willing to teach and mentor them about business.
DON’T feature the same type of business over and over again.
And don’t feature the same type of businessperson, either. You will want to feature businesses and business owners that can relate to all your members on some level. Look for people with interesting backgrounds, business acumen, and those who can add a new or different perspective.Sharing monthly chamber member spotlights is a great idea as long as you make sure they are not just an ego booster for the member, but rather an inspirational tool for your other members. Writing about business successes, picking people to feature who are willing to give back, and diversifying your member spotlights will make them a must-read section.
