Matt Duffy was elected unanimously during the Illinois Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (IACCE)Annual Conference Thursday, November 5, 2020.

Aurora Regional Chamber named 2020 IACCE Chamber of the Year in the large Chamber Group


The 
Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce, the voice of and catalyst for business success in the Aurora region, has been named the 2020 Outstanding Chamber of the Year in the large chamber category by the Illinois Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (IACCE).
 
The IACCE Outstanding Chamber of the Year Award recognizes organization excellence in chambers of commerce and provides a unique benchmarking opportunity to assess a chamber’s strengths. The award is based on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s accreditation process for local chambers and highlights accomplishments in the areas of leadership, governance, finance, advocacy and membership development.
 
"Under the leadership of president & CEO Jessica Linder Gallo, the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce has thrived, showing that commitment to membership and strong leadership can grow an organization and positively impact its community,” said Ginny Glasner, ACE, 2020 IACCE Chairman of the Board and President & CEO of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce. “Through a collaborative approach, the organization has implemented notable programs, including a corporate rebrand, launch of several digital initiatives (i.e., blogs, video blogs, soon-to-launch website redesign, etc.), an implications to employers webinar series, several COVID-19 survey reports, and a series of industry roundtables to discuss the impacts of the pandemic in each industry. They have successfully established partnerships, especially their education-workforce collaboration, and continue to develop and model best practices in the chamber industry as evidenced by their continued U.S. Chamber accreditation status that can be replicated around the state.”

That report analyzed the data from 524 responses from businesses of all sizes, operation tenure and across all industry sectors on challenges they faced as they looked to reopen and operate in the age of COVID-19.

Learn Strategies for Navigating Health Care Challenges, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m.

Join the Detroit Regional Chamber for the Employer Forum: Navigating Health Care Challenges hosted in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m.

Attendees will hear from regional health experts from BCBSM and the University of Michigan on how to navigate access to care and testing amid the pandemic, as well as examine the impact COVID-19 has had on mental health and stress management. #SmartChamber: Joliet Chamber Puts Building Up For Sale

The Joliet Chamber of Commerce has been a fixture on North Chicago Street for a number of years, but change is in the air. Joliet Chamber President Jen Howard informed Joliet Patch's editor that her Chamber building, 63 North Chicago St. is now officially for sale.

Prominent Joliet real estate agent Mark Koenig is marketing the downtown Joliet property. The Joliet Chamber building features six individual offices, a kitchen, two conference rooms, three bathrooms, a reception area and a four-car heated garage in the back of the building. There is also access to a couple additional parking spaces toward the back, Howard said.

The Chamber's asking price is $325,000, Howard said. The brick building encompasses 5,500 square feet, Howard said.

"We just do not need all the space because we had a downsize of our staff," Howard said. "Unfortunately, we had to make some layoffs because of COVID-19."

The Joliet Chamber intends to find other office space to lease in the downtown, preferably in the area of Chicago Street or along Van Buren Street, Howard said.

Elkhorn Area Chamber collaboration: New drive-through holiday event set for Walworth County fairgrounds


The Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Walworth County and the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank have embarked on a countywide mission to ignite the magic of the upcoming holiday season.

Let It Glow, a half-mile drive-through festival of lights, will be Dec. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Walworth County Fairgrounds, 411 E. Court St., Elkhorn.

Over 20 whimsical holiday stations will be part of the event. There will also be a Santa Station, where children can wave to the jolly man in red and hand their letters to one of Santa’s elves to be taken straight to the North Pole.

The Covid-19 pandemic has cast uncertainty over how the holidays will look this year.

Tammy Dunn, executive director for the United Way of Walworth County, said she was approached with the event idea by Maryann Zimmerman, general manager of the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank.

“For years, I imagined a lighted drive-through festival at the fairgrounds, and this seemed the perfect time to join forces,” said Dunn. “Let It Glow will be a real win for all of Walworth County, including the performers, area nonprofits, the business community and our families.”

Chris Clapper, executive director for the Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce, said the fairgrounds will be the perfect venue for the event.

While it is intended to become a tradition for Walworth County families, there is the hope that others become involved.

“While our committee can administrate the event, we need help breathing life into the animation of Let It Glow,” Clapper said.

Let It Glow organizers have several ways for others to become involved.

Businesses can choose from five sponsorship levels, and families can sponsor and decorate a Glow Tree to be displayed along Balsam Boulevard.

Groups can sign up to build a display or entertain the audience with one of 20-plus Glow Station stops along the route, and volunteers can sign up to help behind the scenes.

The event follows the Elkhorn Chamber’s Annual Tree Lighting on the Square.

There will be no cost to drive through the park.

Wauwatosa West Allis Chamber Of Commerce Welcomes New Management Company

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Wauwatosa West Allis Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Wisconsin Association Management (WAM) as their new management company on Wednesday, November 25th, 2020. Wisconsin Association Management has a wide array of experience as they manage a total of 26 associations across the country. WAM will take over the day-to-day operations starting December 1, 2020.

The Chamber of Commerce serving Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County hopes to “Keep the Cheer Here” with their upcoming holiday donation drop-off event. Sponsored by Southern Virginia Office Equipment and hosted at The Patton Room by The Georges, the event will take place on Wednesday, December 9th from 8:30 until 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to cheers to the holiday and support our local charities by dropping off unwrapped toys or non-perishable food items as donations for The Salvation Army and Rockbridge Area Relief Association. This will also be an opportunity for new Chamber members, those that joined in 2020, to be recognized by staff and board members. 

Light refreshments provided by Pronto Gelateria, Sweet Treats Bakery, Pure Eats, McDonalds and The Georges, will be offered “to-go” in exchange for donated items. Masks will be required and social distancing will be practiced. A dedicated parking space on Main Street will be available for convenient curbside drop-offs as well.

McLean County Chamber: Urge Politicians to Make PPP Loans Deductible

The Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act of 2020, or PPP, was passed in order to provide small businesses across the United States crucial relief during widespread government shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These loans can be forgivable when proceeds are used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest and utilities. Congressional leaders intended for PPP funded expenses to be deductible like other business expenses.

Despite the intent of Congressional leaders, additional legislation is needed to make PPP funds used to pay business expenses deductible. The failure to allow these deductions will have a devastating impact on small businesses struggling to keep their doors open and retain their employees.

Are you a small business owner who thought salary and expenses paid by PPP loans would be deductible? Do you rely on a small business to provide for your livelihood? Are you someone who supports the small business community and wants to see small businesses make it through this pandemic?

We suspect most of you answered yes to one or more of these questions. Accordingly, please contact your Congressional leaders and ask them to sponsor and strongly advocate for legislation that makes salary and other businesses expenses paid for by a PPP loan deductible!

 Jasper Chamber: Christmas Tree and Other Decorations a Community Effort 

The beautiful community Christmas Tree on the courthouse lawn during the 2020 Christmas and holiday season has been donated by Jake Sternberg of Jasper. 

This beautiful tree serves as the main Christmas tree for Jasper – for the holiday season. 

The lights on the tree, the beautiful red bows and the lighted garland on the street poles were financed by Patoka 2000. Contributions were received by individuals in the community in memory of loved ones, or in honor of special occasions. 

The lights on the trees and perimeter lighting on many of the downtown buildings were financed by individual merchants and also by the Greater Downtown Jasper Business Association. 

The 17 large flower pots lining Main Street Jasper were funded through the efforts of: 

Heart of Jasper, City of Jasper, Patoka 2000, Jasper Chamber of Commerce, Greater Downtown Jasper Business Association and Jasper Strassenfest. 

Heart of Jasper volunteers also worked hard this year to place painted trees, garland and lights in the planter boxes in the Square area. 

The City Electric Department did an outstanding job again this year of installing all of the garlands, lights and the community Christmas tree. They also attached the red bows to the tree and were responsible for designing, making and placing the star at the top of the main tree. 

Through all of these efforts - the city of Jasper will have a bright and festive look throughout the entire holiday season of 2020.

Jack Klemeyer - A Message on Gratitude

Many leaders and business owners find that without gratitude in their lives, their businesses fail to deliver – in many different ways. Being self-absorbed to the point of believing success is owed to you is a slow poison to your business mindset, and in turn, your business itself. 

Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces in the Universe. It may not look as good as money, a big car, a giant house, or the latest set of fine duds. Gratitude is that something that you can’t even see‚ but, as I’m going to show you, gratitude has more power to change your life than all these material things put together. 

The dictionary tells us that gratitude is: “The expression of gratefulness and thanks,” but this doesn’t begin to convey its real effect. Here is a list of some other definitions of gratitude. 
Gratitude stops you taking your life for granted and helps you realize how many good things you have in your life. 
Gratitude makes others feel better. 
Gratitude makes you feel better. In the words of an Arabian proverb: “The hand that gives the roses always keeps some of the scent.” 
Gratitude raises your awareness of things around you. 
Gratitude is easy, quick, and simple. Gratitude is an instant blues-breaker and stress-reliever. 
Gratitude changes your view of so-called, “bad” things. 
Gratitude frees you from petty annoyances. 
Gratitude inspires you. 
Gratitude puts your thoughts and feelings on a high vibration level that in turn attracts back to you more things to be grateful for. 
Gratitude nourishes the soul. 
Gratitude is like compound interest on money in the bank: the more you put in, the more you get out. 
Gratitude is a spiritual act because it acknowledges that the origin of all good things is a source outside ourselves. 
Gratitude puts us on a direct line with the Grand Overall Designer, God. 

That’s the, “what” of gratitude. I’d like to now show you the, “how.” Here are four very simple things you can do to make an Attitude of Gratitude a firm fixture in your life. 

1. Create a Thank Bank. A Thank Bank is simply a place where you can jot down all the things that you are grateful for in your life. You can split the bank into different accounts such as Family, Surroundings and Work, and then simply start writing out your thanks until you stop. Put your list somewhere safe, like your journal, and pull it out when you are feeling down and you’ll soon discover that your mood will change for the better in an instant. 

2. Show Gratitude Quietly. Don’t be fake by turning gratitude into a promotional or motivational tool. Too much thanks is as ineffective as too little. Instead, express your thanks in quiet ways: a thought, a prayer, a one-to-one word, a note of appreciation. Give people gifts of thanks that aren’t purchased at shops: a bit of your time, a little sacrifice, something valuable to you. Remember the story of the widow, who gave a small monetary gift in thanks even though it was worth everything to her. 

3. Always Replace the three C’s with the three A’s. As you work, manage or lead others, you might sometimes feel the need to use one of the three C’s: Complaining, Condemning, and Criticizing instead, replace the three C’s with the three A’s: Accepting, Acknowledging, and Appreciating. Accept people for who they are; acknowledge them for what they do; and appreciate them for just being around. Remember that when you appreciate others, your reputation and respect appreciates too. 

4. Remember to express gratitude. Actively reach out to your own business mentors, either in writing a hand written note, an email or even a phone call and thank them for sharing their knowledge and experience with you. Your mentors helped you get to your level of success, and letting them know that they are appreciated goes a long way towards creating that attitude of gratitude mindset that you need in business. 

There is really nothing complicated about gratitude. It’s something we can all do. We so often don’t do it because we forget, because we focus on the few so-called bad things in our lives, and because we take the wonderful things in our life for granted. So, change your life. When you put gratitude in your consciousness, every day becomes one of joy and delight.

Southeast Kentucky Chamber Op-ed: Now is the time to shop small and support local

It’s that time of year again when we are constantly reminded and encouraged to shop local and support small businesses; however, this year, we need to double down on that message. Not only is there an opportunity to help small businesses and retain money locally, but we have the opportunity to save our small businesses and our downtowns. 

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, business owners have struggled to overcome regulations and restrictions. Whether we agree with those restrictions or not, we have seen that our local business owners, time-and-time-again have been resilient and braved the unknown to not only provide for their families, but to enrich our lives and the livelihoods of our communities. Think about your favorite local eatery or gift shop. Think of the smiles you see when you walk into their store. Do they call you by name? More than likely. Do they know your parents or grandparents? Probably so. These are the experiences that small businesses offer us and the impacts they have on our lives. 

We have seen our business community making accommodations and innovation to be able to continue their service to our communities more than ever throughout this year, from drive thru services, curbside pickup, delivery, outdoor dining, pop-up shops, expanding to online markets, and more. For that, we applaud them, and we thank them. Our communities are much stronger and livelier because of their contributions. 

As Fivestars notes, there are six great reasons to support small businesses: Small businesses give back to your community, they have a major economic impact, provide great customer service, provide greater access to product diversity, create a sense of community, and just make you feel better about purchasing. 

It's great to support any and all local businesses in your communities, and the Southeast Kentucky Chamber wants to encourage you to keep your money here in the region this holiday season. Support your local, small businesses just as they have supported you.


Lt. Governor presents Jackson County Chamber of Commerce with new state flag

Today Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann made his way down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where he spoke at an event hosted by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and presented Mississippi’s new state flag.

Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann stopped by the Pascagoula Performing Arts Center where he spoke on many topics, including some of what the legislature accomplished this year. “We re-organized the board that does all the prep for teaching our children how to do technical things. We devoted 75 million dollars to broadband expansion and that was matched by the co-op so we get 150 million dollars reaching in more than 50 thousand Mississippi homes that will have access to broadband to teach their children with.”

One of Hosemann’s proudest legislative moments of 2020 is the adoption of Mississippi’s new state flag, which he proudly presented to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. “I think it’s reflective of the fact that we got 72 percent of the vote. Now, that’s almost impossible. If you’re a really good politician you might get 58 percent, we had a record turnout of 1.2 million people and 72 percent voted for the new flag.”

Members of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce say it is an honor to have Lt. Governor Hosemann visit the Gulf Coast and present them with the new state flag. Jackson County Chamber of Commerce CEO Paige Roberts said, “This is honestly one of the greatest honors of my life. The chamber and I worked very hard in support of changing the flag and then in support of getting this flag. We are so proud and thrilled that the people of Mississippi spoke such volumes.” Read more: WXXV 25

To Chambers of Commerce: 2020 is the year that chamber people educated thirty one million small businesses with no one in the room, implemented workarounds for 150 million employees when there was no rulebook, and inspired their communities to pivot, while they (their livelihood, their family's health) were walking on the edge of a cliff. Chambers were students in brand new areas and became the faculty to every employer and employee in the United States. Chamber people received no battle pay, not enough health care benefits, and only a sad face when the idea of a pension is brought up.

I am inspired by chamber people and thankful we are able to do business with wonderful chambers like you. I hope you spend November 26th in the minds and the company of friends and family. The very best holiday wishes from our house to yours.

Virginia Peninsula Chamber: Veterans Day: MY STORY IS NOT UNCOMMON OR UNIQUE

Happy Veterans Day. My name is Bob McKenna and I am currently the president and CEO of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, but more importantly, I am a 27-year veteran of the Navy. 

I am very proud to have served my country and am very grateful to those who have served and who continue to serve with honor. Most of you probably know this, but 101 years ago today was the very first commemoration of Armistice Day. The original Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1918, marked the end of the Great War, or World War I, and the holiday began as a way to honor the heroism of Americans who served in that war.

Legislation was passed in 1938 making it a legal holiday known as Armistice Day. In 1954, following World War II and the Korean War, Congress amended the Act of 1938 by changing the word Armistice to Veterans. In 1968, the Uniform Holidays Bill moved Veterans Day to the fourth Monday of October. This didn’t sit too well with many people, and several states did not comply and continued to celebrate it on the original date. Finally, on Sept. 20, 1975, President Gerald Ford (a WWII veteran and Navy hero himself) signed a law returning Veterans Day to its original date.

It is important to remember the difference between this day and other similar days of remembrance and honor. Memorial Day honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our great nation. Armed Forces Day honors those who are presently serving. On Veterans Day, we honor all who have served our nation during many periods and many wars and conflicts — WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Desert Storm, Somalia, Just Cause, in the Balkans, Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and countless other smaller/lesser known wars and conflicts.

Let me switch gears for a brief moment and answer the question: why did I choose to serve? My father was a Marine in the early days of Vietnam, my father-in-law was a Chosin Marine. My brother and four brothers-in-law served in the Navy. Another brother-in-law is a Marine vet. Continuing that line, one of my sons served in the Navy for four years, attended Christopher Newport University on the GI Bill and is now a proud Green Beret with the Army.

I often joke that I joined as a way to curry favor with a skeptical man who would soon after become my father-in-law, and then served for 27 years as a surface warfare officer — and dragged his daughter and grandchildren around the U.S., Europe and Japan for over two decades. I think my story is not uncommon or unique. People join for many reasons: for the challenge, to prove something, because their father served, to earn an education, to break a cycle of failure, poverty or abuse; or because a local judge gave them a choice between serving time or serving their country.

But in the end, they all come to understand that their service has a much deeper meaning to them — a sense of honor and dignity, self-sacrifice, patriotism, and finally, an understanding that they have become a part of something much larger than themselves. They take great pride in the fact that they wear the same uniform, salute the same flag and defend the same ideals as heroes like George Patton, Bull Halsey, Chuck Yeager and Chesty Puller. They take pride in their oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same. They hold their heads up proudly (and rightly so) because they share heritage and history with a long line of people who stood up, made sacrifices and defended the freedom of the greatest country the world has ever known.

We take great pride in the industrial and manufacturing strength of this great nation. We build the world’s greatest ships, fastest and most capable fighter jets, the most powerful weapons and armor, but our greatest asset is and always has been the soldier, the sailor, the marine, the airman and the coast guardsman who trains for and fights our nation’s wars and, in the process, ensures our enduring freedom. So, on this Veterans Day of 2020, our nation salutes each of you and says: Thank you so much for your service. May God bless you and continue to bless the United States of America.

GUEST VIEW: Who is the EMBDC, what's its purpose and why should I be a member?

The EMBDC is an acronym for the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation. It is a 501(c)(6) organization that is widely funded by approximately 500 local businesses, the City of Meridian and Lauderdale County.

It houses Meridian’s Chamber of Commerce and its Economic Development efforts. It has in place a five year strategic plan that is primarily focused on assisting existing business and industry and attracting new industry into East Central Mississippi.


It’s approximately 500 businesses pay a membership fee to belong to the EMBDC and provide it a sustained source of private funding along with the public funding provided by the City and County.

In addition, the business community has pledged approximately $1.5 million over 5 years to provide additional support to fund its five year strategic plan. This plan is heavily focused on creating new jobs in East Central Mississippi through a combination of expanding existing industries and attracting new industries into our area.

As we all know, Meridian and Lauderdale County have limited resources and lots of very tangible needs both for our current citizenry and to attract new citizens. It is obvious that these needs will only be met if we increase revenue. The preferred method of increasing revenue is to attract new jobs.

The increased revenue can then be used to better maintain infrastructure and add new infrastructure, services, and benefits that we all desire to have in our community. This is why the number one priority of our community (public and private) should be to increase jobs. Increasing jobs is the number one priority of the EMBDC!

The City of Meridian and Lauderdale County are tasked with managing and running our City and County. The governing council or board of the City and County have limited terms of office. We need a long term vision for, and commitment to, economic development that includes marketing our community.

We need to speak with one unified voice when working with existing industries or prospects unfamiliar with our community. It absolutely makes overwhelmingly more sense to have one economic development organization with one hired professional supported by the appropriate staff managing our economic development strategic plan.

It can better market the best we have to offer those tasked with making major decisions about where they want to locate their facilities, operations, employees and their families (i.e. taxpayers). We should be thinking about this in terms of the City and County being a business and the EMBDC being its marketing entity. We desperately need one unified message that communicates who we are and why people should do business with us.

We need a major project to locate in our community bringing new jobs (individual & corporate taxpayers) to our community. We need to retain and expand our existing business base. Some of the latter don’t always make the headlines.


The reason we haven’t been as successful as we’d like to be is something that we all have to own. It’s because we aren’t on the same page, speaking with one unified voice and properly staffing and funding the EMBDC.

The business model that has had success across the country for economic development is the same business model being employed by the EMBDC. However, we have to do a better job of all subscribing to this same model, funding/investing in the model and utilizing the EMBDC to present our community’s attributes to those looking to relocate their business.

If we do so, we WILL have success. The EMBDC board brought a professional economic development executive to Meridian and Lauderdale County in 2015. The organization has been working diligently to build a foundation for success in our community.

We’ve built bridges with the Mississippi Development Authority, the City and the County as well as our legislative delegations. We recently received $3.5 million from the State of Mississippi to complete the Key Brothers Industrial Park (formerly the I20/59 Industrial Park). Mississippi Power Company added a multimillion dollar substation to the park. We have a prominent industrial site selection team marketing the site. The combination for lasting economic success is to have a process in place to consistently do these kind of things year in and year out.

I’ve been the Chairman of the EMBDC for two years. While we’re doing a lot of the right things, we’re not doing enough. We must direct our limited resources (public and private) to this professional organization and ensure through our input that they continue building the foundation for success. It’s a proven model that will deliver the results we need and want for our community. Every business, large and small, should be a dues paying member of the EMBDC.

Every public and private entity should be supportive and trust the EMBDC to do its job. It’s the only alternative we have given the limited financial resources that we have at our disposal. I should know. Marshalling financial resources is what I have done for a living for a half century.

The resources we’ve committed to the EMBDC are not competitive with those communities we compete with for jobs. Their strategic plans are better funded and their communities invest more in marketing their attributes that are appealing to those wanting to locate there. This is the first time we’ve put in place a five year strategic plan and had a capital fund drive to fund it.

Now, we’re having our first membership drive in at least a decade. If you want success, you have to be willing to make an investment. We need to up our public and private investment, be an EMBDC member and then expect to win. The business model I’ve described, the professionals to carry it out, and the will to win is in place. I ask those of you who are in the public and private sector to step up your investment and expect to WIN!

When 2020 and the pandemic brought so many challenges and struggles to the citizens of Kernersville, it also brought out the best in one particular Kernersville business. We are thankful for people like Rick Wilburn and his daughter Emily and Wilburn Medical Supply, who are not only wonderful people, but they love their community and have shown their support for others through their business. USA for being selected as the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce’s November 2020 Business of the Month!

Wilburn Medical USA provides medical supplies and equipment to Dr.’s offices, hospitals and other organizations such as universities and was founded January of 1997 by Rick Wilburn. Rick spent most of his career as a rep for other medical sales companies until he realized that he had what it took to create his own company. He landed in our lovely town of Kernersville and opened his business in 2 small offices. From those humble beginnings, Rick has built a company that not only has provided jobs for the current 12 employees but is generous to the community in which it resides. In August of 2019, Wilburn Medical USA moved into a new office and warehouse located at 140 Furlong Industrial Drive here in Kernersville.

Rick is known for his support of our community. He is a board member of Next Step Ministries, has volunteered at their Thrift Store, and has been a generous supporter of NSM fundraisers. When the pandemic hit our community, Wilburn Medical USA provided free masks, hand sanitizer and PPE to so many other organizations and businesses. Rick was interviewed by Fox 8 News to talk about how his company was doing their part to help and support the community. When supplies were in high demand but low in supply, Wilburn Medical USA came through for our community! 

Currently, Rick has promoted his daughter, Emily, to CEO of Wilburn Medical USA is transitioning the business to her leadership. They have developed a very successful online strategy supported by an inside sales team. Wilburn Medical USA has had 23 years of exceeding customer expectations. The team takes pride in running circles around the big guys and then passing on the savings to their valued customers. 

Once you have met Rick, you appreciate his giving heart, and you begin to understand why creating his company was really a means to creating a way to help others. He has a heart of gold. He and Emily both attend Summit Church, and helping others is who they are. Emily left her work with Redeeming Girl Ministries to work alongside her dad and pick up the vision he has had for Wilburn Medical USA. It is people like the Wilburn’s and companies like Wilburn Medical USA that make our community so wonderful! Thank you Rick and Emily for being a part of our community and for caring about others! SBA Wisconsin: Five Things to Know About PPP Forgiveness 


As the U.S. Small Business Administration continues working with lenders nationwide on the Paycheck Protection Program and processing PPP loan forgiveness, here are five PPP loan forgiveness tips small business owners should know: 
1. PPP loan forgiveness is applied for through a lender, not the SBA. 
Borrowers can download PPP loan forgiveness applications from SBA’s website at sba.gov/paycheckprotection and then submit it with required information to the lender that provided them with a forgivable PPP loan. 
Lenders have up to 60 days to review a PPP loan forgiveness application and the SBA has up to 90 days to review the forgiveness application once received from the lender. 
The SBA remits the amount forgiven to the lender, who must process the forgiveness payment before notifying the PPP borrower of the amount. 
2. Approximately 67% of Wisconsin PPP borrowers are eligible for a simplified PPP loan forgiveness application that can take as little as 15 minutes to complete. 
Earlier in October, the SBA and Treasury released a simpler forgiveness application for PPP loans of $50,000 or less and streamlined the PPP loan forgiveness process for a majority of the borrowers. The simplified application has only seven items for a PPP borrower to verify and significantly reduces the time and paperwork needed. 
3. Businesses still need to document PPP loan money was spent on eligible expenses. 
Since a key part of forgiveness for PPP loans is using the money for eligible expenses, borrowers need to provide documentation, including verification of payroll and non-payroll expenses, with the forgiveness application as required by the CARES Act. 
4. The SBA has already started remittance to lenders. 
The SBA began approving PPP loan forgiveness applications and remitting forgiveness payments to lenders for PPP borrowers Oct. 2, 2020. 
5. Help is available for the forgiveness process and recovery plans. 
The SBA has set up a recovery hub at www.sba.gov/recovery with essential details, resiliency tips and connections to local assistance. SBA’s Resource Partner Network – which includes Wisconsin Small Business Development Centers, SCORE Mentors, Women’s Business Centers and the Veterans Business Outreach Center – also provides one-on-one business advising and technical assistance to small businesses at no- or low-cost. 

In the Great Lakes Region, 777,925 forgivable PPP loans valued at more than $88.1 billion were approved. In Wisconsin, 89,615 forgivable PPP loans valued at approximately $9.9 billion were approved. More information about the PPP is available at www.sba.gov/paycheckprotection.


SBA: State of Michigan Weatherization Grant

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity is providing federal CARES Act funds to help those small businesses hit hardest by COVID-related closures and capacity restrictions expand their capacity. 

Funds may be used for a business to construct temporary structures such as canopies and igloos or purchase portable heaters, and more.

Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified applicants, with a goal to award a minimum of 10 grants in each of Michigan's prosperity regions.
