Chamber Travel Affinity Program: How about Dubai?; Peoria & Peoria Chamber giving boost to Washington shopping; Last Day to Apply for Affton Chamber of Commerce (Missouri) Executive Director

Did you know that tourism, not oil, is one of Dubai’s major economic drivers?  Oil was discovered in Dubai in the early 60’s. The city’s financial success was built on revenue from the oil, petroleum and natural gas industries, but today those sectors represent just a small portion of the city’s booming economy.

Tourism and trading have taken the lead, and countrywide, the hospitality industry in the United Arab Emirates is expected to increase by 67% in the next two years. It’s no wonder. From tranquil desert scenes to bustling world-class shopping venues, Dubai offers travelers an exotic, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Peoria & Peoria Chamber giving boost to Washington shopping

City businesses are getting a boost from across the Illinois River. The city of Peoria and Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce are joining forces with the city of Washington and Washington Chamber of Commerce to promote a Peoria Shops Washington promotion April 11, 12 and 14.
In the wake of the Nov. 17 tornado, with sales down at Washington businesses, shoppers are being encouraged to patronize Washington stores.
“Washington is an important part of our region,” Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis said. “We need to remember that Washington is facing a long rebuilding process and needs everyone’s help,” he said.
Jeff Griffin, president of the Peoria Area chamber, said the promotion is all about “building a sense of community with our neighbors.”
Chevie Ruder, executive director of the Washington chamber, said the promotion will be a great way to show area residents that most Washington stores were not damaged by the tornado and are open for business.
“Besides shopping in our stores, people will be able to see for themselves where the city is in our recovery process,” she said. Read more: Peoria JournalStar
