Greater Louisville Inc. VP Shawna Burton wins KCCE Executive of the Year
Greater Louisville Inc.’s Vice President of Engagement and Organizational Advancement Shawna Burton was named Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives’ Executive of the Year.
KCCE is a statewide network of professionals dedicated to promoting professional education, ethical standards and efficiency in chamber of commerce management. The Excellence Awards were announced during the KCCE Annual Conference in Frankfort on Aug. 24.
Burton creates innovative programming related to GLI’s strategic objectives. She is responsible for the direction, management and execution of all GLI events and products. She leads a team who executes all GLI’s investor offerings and is responsible for growing and diversifying GLI’s product offerings.
“Shawna continues to push the envelope managing signature events such as Annual Meeting and GLIDE as well as overseeing GLI’s Health Solutions, a new health insurance cost savings program in partnership with Humana,” said Kent Oyler, president & CEO of GLI. “We are lucky to have such a vibrant, passionate executive dedicated to serving the business community of Greater Louisville.”

700+ Business & Community Leaders Expected at Carmel State of the City Address OneZone luncheon
Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard will deliver his State of the City Address, presented annually since becoming mayor in 1996, at the OneZone luncheon on Wednesday, October 11 at Ritz Charles in Carmel.
Last year’s event was attended by 750 business and community leaders, chamber members and guests. City of Carmel department representatives will be on hand before and after the address with information about their respective jobs and activities, along with business exhibitors.

WADMC & GWCTA Welcome Discovery Channel's "Road Trip Masters" to Williamsburg This Weekend!
The Williamsburg Area Destination Marketing Committee (WADMC) and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance (GWCTA) welcome Discovery Channel’s Destination America show “Road Trip Masters” to the destination this weekend. The cast and crew will be out and about in their 1968 Cadillac to film a half-hour show about visiting Greater Williamsburg.
“Road Trip Masters” is hosted by two educators, Nick Kessler and Brian Fulmer. The show’s mission is to tell the story of unique travel destinations across America. The show has filmed at other East Coast locations, including Finger Lakes, N.Y., Newport R.I., Silver Springs, Md. and more. The Greater Williamsburg episode will be the first one based in Virginia.

From the fourth-floor community room at software developer Jamf, employees can grab a local craft beer from the fridge, teleconference with mentors at Fortune 500 companies and take in postcard-perfect views of a revitalized downtown riverfront.
It's all part of company founder Zach Halmstad's strategy to create a vibrant work and living environment in Wisconsin's eighth-largest city — and a model state officials say should be replicated to draw the workforce of the future and to help address a growing worker shortage right now.
"It's not just hanging out a 'Help Wanted' sign and paying a competitive wage, it's the whole holistic environment," University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross said of attracting workers. "It's creating the whole environment where these people want to live and hang out."
On a tranquil August day, Jamf employees in shorts and flip-flops walk their dogs through the office. Work notes are scrawled on glossy walls in meeting rooms decorated with local artwork. There are ping pong and bumper pool tables set out where software developers might hash out the next big idea.
"People work really hard," said Halmstad, 39, explaining in a manner as casual as his charcoal T-shirt and jeans how the work environment fosters stress relief, creativity and community.
The company has grown from 150 employees four years ago to 700 today, with 219 in Eau Claire, another 273 in Minneapolis and the rest spread around the world. The retention rate hovers at 98 percent, said talent acquisition manager Natalie Johnson. OXFORD, MISS. (Sept. 20, 2017)— The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce recently graduated 19 emerging community leaders from its 29th annual Leadership Lafayette Program at a graduation ceremony held at the Powerhouse.
The nine-month program, which runs from January through September, is designed to ensure the continuity of leadership in the Lafayette-Oxford-University community. The class training builds community leaders through shared knowledge, skills and experience. The program emphasizes on developing leadership skills through activities promoting community awareness, team building and project development.

This year’s class was split into four teams working on four very important community projects: Art @ the Corner, Cleanup for Kickoff, Good Night Market and Spruce up and Chill Out.
After the last session the class is asked to vote on a class member they thought was a worthy choice for the 10th Annual Leadership Award. This award goes to a program participant who has excelled throughout the program, who has shown outstanding leadership skills, as well as dedication and excellence in community service through their project development.
This year’s recipient was Sha' Simpson, Volunteer Coordinator at North Mississippi Regional Center. At NMRC Simpson coordinates opportunities for anyone interested in getting involved and giving of their time to NMRC and their clients. She serves as a liaison with other volunteer agencies and participates in many events encouraging volunteerism. As a class member she worked diligently on the success of her team’s project, Good Night Market, which has now become an annual event.
Torie White, Leadership Lafayette veteran and Program Chair, said, “Leadership Lafayette was fortunate to have a Steering Committee that did a tremendous job planning an informative and fun program. This year’s graduates brought an amazing amount of vision, community enthusiasm and hard work to both the sessions and their community projects. We look forward to seeing them use their skills to get involved in different facets of the community beyond the program.”

The fest will take place this Saturday, September 23rd from 9 am to 1 pm at the Max Athletic & Exposition in McCook, Illinois.
Supporting the health of the entire region is a top priority for the WSCCI and we are excited to host vendors from financial to fitness to safety to services for the aging population, with everything in between. The morning’s speaker is Stuart Breslow, financial expert and 9/11 survivor. His presentation called “9/11/01: An Eyewitness Account” will be at 10:45 am; it is a testament to the human spirit and American resilience.
