Soon the Flint & Genesee Group will host our 2022 Annual Meeting, one of the region’s largest gatherings of executives, business owners and professionals, elected officials and community leaders. The meeting will be held on March 30 at the historic Capitol Theatre in downtown Flint, at 3 p.m. And I’m excited to say that we are back to congregating in person.
Our Annual Meeting is a review and celebration of the Flint & Genesee Group’s impact made in 2021. Specifically, the event will include a retrospective look at the local business climate and economy, provides an update on our progress in the first year of a three-year Strategic Plan, while at the same time, navigating challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. We will also briefly highlight our vision for the future.
In addition, I am thrilled about our keynote speaker, Kevin Conroy. A Flint native, Kevin is the chairman and CEO of Exact Sciences, one of the world’s premier cancer diagnostics companies.

Reston Comp Plan Task Force - Initial Public Outreach Session Announced
Reston, VA - The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce will collaborate with the office of Hunter Mill District Supervisor Walter Alcorn to offer an initial public outreach in presenting the interim recommendations of the Reston Comprehensive Plan Task Force. This event is scheduled for Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM via WebEx. A recording of this presentation will be made available for on-demand viewing through Supervisor Alcorn's YouTube channel.
The Reston Comprehensive Plan Task Force, primarily comprised of community resident along with select business representatives, was convened in May 2020. This group reviewed all elements of Reston's existing comprehensive plan. Interim recommendations for changes to the current plan were drafted by members of the task force. These recommendations impact a wide variety of community matters including land use, transportation, community health, economic development, and affordable housing. Public feedback on these recommendations is being requested while County staff members provide revisions to these recommendations. Final recommendations will be presented to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for adoption.
These public outreach sessions are an important opportunity for all members of the Reston community - residents, employers, employees, land owners, tenants, or all of the above - to share their thoughts and opinions on policies which will significantly impact the shape of Reston for decades to come.

Dubuque Chamber: Inside the Chamber Lobby
The Iowa House of Representatives on Wednesday was the first chamber to pass the income tax cuts telegraphed from the legislative session’s start, including an eventual 4% rate for all income brackets and a full exemption for retirees. The plan is similar to one backed by Gov. Kim Reynolds except it does not include her proposed corporate income tax cut. The Chamber is registered in support of this bill due to the positive impact it will have on pass-through businesses, however we continue to advocate for the inclusion of corporate income tax reform in a final package. The TH has more.
