Batavia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Selects Margaret Perreault as New Leader
Margaret Perreault, currently the Membership Development Specialist with the Chamber takes over as the organization’s head on June 25
Batavia, Ill. – June 17,
2019 – Today, Margaret Perreault of Batavia was named the new president and
chief executive officer of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce by its board of
directors. However, Perreault won’t be changing her business address as she is currently
the membership development specialist with the Chamber.
Jessica McGrail,
chairperson of the board, spoke on behalf of the entire board of directors.
According to McGrail, the search committee was impressed with Perreault’s past
work with the Chamber and confident that going forward, she will continue the
organization’s momentum.
“We are fortunate to have
Margaret as our next president and CEO of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce,”
said McGrail, owner of Dollar & Sense Bookkeeping. “She is member- and
community-focused, which we know will be key in the continued success of our
Chamber.
“Furthermore, in her role
as the member development specialist for over four years, Margaret built a
solid understanding of the Chamber’s operations and is well-regarded among our
members,” continued McGrail. “We believe this will be an easy transition and
are excited to be a part of the ideas and creativity Margaret will bring to
this position.”
As for Perreault, she
hopes to energize the business community, highlighting the value they bring to
the greater community.
“I
am extremely honored to have been selected to serve my community as the next
President and CEO of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce,” Perreault commented. “I am confident in my ability to
continue the progress and prosperity of our Chamber.
“The Chamber’s work is vital to the local
business community and I look forward to working with the Chamber’s board,
ambassadors and staff to continue to grow the organization and to promote the
interests of local businesses to ensure their livelihood,” she continued. “I
believe in the Chamber’s capacity to enhance the economic and business climate
of our area.
“I am excited to work with our members to
provide the programs and benefits that they need to prosper,” Perreault said.
McGrail and Perreault added that the work
accomplished over the past five years by departing Holly Deitchman created a
strong foundation for future growth of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce.
“Holly has prepared me in so many ways to take the helm of the Chamber and continue its success,” stated Perreault. “I sincerely thank her, and I know the board of directors join me in wishing her all the best in her new position with the Batavia School District.”

community. We are fortunate that in her new position she will be a community
partner of the Chamber.”

Leadership Lafayette Partners with MSD to Bring Accessible Playground to Oxford
Leadership Lafayette has partnered with the Mississippi Society for Disabilities (MSD) to create a fundraiser named “Play Without Barriers” that will bring accessible playground equipment to Bailey Branch Park for children of all ability levels and their families.
Leadership Lafayette’s fundraising goal is set at $20,000. An arm of the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Lafayette consists of community leaders divided into groups, each focused on a different community improvement project.
“Playgrounds can create a barrier to play, and people usually don’t think about that,” said Tanya Nichols, Leadership Lafayette 2019 participant and project manager for the University of Mississippi’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement. “An open park seems like it has no limitations. But if a play structure is not accessible, it is not inclusive. In being a diverse community, we have to think about access, inclusion and equity even when it comes to children playing. It’s important to create a space where kids have that opportunity.”
The playground, located on the corner of Highway 7 South and Office Park Drive, will see three phases of equipment installation, each priced at $85,000: equipment suitable for ages five to 12, independent play structures located in shade and a playground suitable for children ages two to five. All phases should be complete by 2022 with the first stage to be finished by spring 2020.
“This project will enrich our community in a number of ways,” Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President Pam Swain said. “We are such a young family-focused community, and our quality of life is our major asset. Having an accessible playground in this community will allow all children to thrive and play. We are beyond excited about MSD’s plans.”
To fundraise for this project, Leadership Lafayette is helping MSD organize a family-friendly, community event titled “Jazz Under the Stars” with the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra on June 27 at the Old Armory Pavilion. In-kind donations such as beverages, items for door prizes, and volunteers are welcome. To be an event sponsor, “Play Without Barriers” offers a personalized brick to be placed at Bailey Branch for a $50 or more donation and tickets to “Jazz Under the Stars” for a $100 or more donation. Indiana Chamber visits South Bend
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce was in South Bend Thursday morning on the first stop of its statewide tour, releasing the results of an annual report card.
The Indiana Vision 2025 Report Card ranks Indiana nationally in 65 key economic measurements. This year, Indiana ranked among the Top 15 states for the national assessment of educational progress, which tests fourth- and fifth-graders in reading, math and science.
The postsecondary completion rates are improving but are still low compared to other states, with 43 percent of Hoosiers completing a postsecondary degree.
The report also showed health is a main concern statewide. The rate of smoking in Indiana is 50 percent higher than the national average.
"We use these scores, the raw scores and the rankings, to generate public policy initiatives, to shore up the areas where we're not doing as well, as well as try to enhance the areas where we're doing comparatively very well," Indiana Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kevin Brinegar said. "So, it helps drive our public policy advocacy."

Northern Kentucky Chamber and Catalytic Fund announce new public art and wayfinding project
The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce (NKY Chamber) and the Catalytic Fund have partnered for the NKY Bourbon Barrel Project to combine public art and wayfinding and celebrate Kentucky’s Edge Bourbon Festival and BLINK.
This effort will match the business community with local artists to create custom painted bourbon barrels, each with a solar lighting feature.
When complete, the barrels will be lined up along the streets of Northern Kentucky’s entertainment districts, serving as both wayfinding and public art.
The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is the leading business organization in Northern Kentucky.
NKY Chamber President Brent Cooper is excited to spearhead the Bourbon Barrel Project.
“Bourbon is part of Kentucky’s culture and this is a fun way of telling our story while highlighting all the cool businesses and community venues we have,” Cooper said. “The barrels will also provide wayfinding for visitors and will be another exciting art attraction in our region. The barrels will be prominently featured during Kentucky’s Edge Bourbon Conference and Festival October 4-5, as well as during BLINK the very next weekend.”
Cooper also believes that the barrel project will help emphasize the connection between our cities and counties and better positioning ourselves in Frankfort, and beyond, as a connected region.
“NKY is stronger when we work together,” said Cooper. “I predict the NKY Bourbon Barrel Project will not only be embraced by businesses and organizations in our river cities but by everyone throughout the entire Northern Kentucky region. Everyone is going to want one.”
The Catalytic Development Funding Corp. of Northern Kentucky (the Catalytic Fund) is a private sector, not-for-profit organization. It provides financing assistance and related services for developers of quality residential and commercial real estate projects in Northern Kentucky’s urban cities of Ludlow, Covington, Newport, Bellevue, and Dayton.
Its mission is to accelerate Northern Kentucky’s urban renaissance through with a three-pronged strategy: financial investment, development services and vibrancy initiatives.
Jill Morenz, the Catalytic Fund’s Director of Community Initiatives and Communications, is managing the project.
“I’m looking forward to working directly with the businesses and the artists to facilitate these amazing public art pieces tied to our region’s bourbon heritage,” Morenz said.
Morenz also leads the Public Arts Network of Northern Kentucky, which provides connections and resources for artists, art organizations and economic development professionals who see the strong link between the arts and vibrant communities.
“Everyone in the Network is eager to help make this project a huge success,” she said.
The project will work like this:
* A business or organization will sponsor a barrel for $1,200; NKY Chamber members will receive a $200 discount off the price.
* The sponsorship will include a barrel, along with fees and materials for an artist to paint it.
* The project will end with the completed barrels being debuted at an Unveiling Party and Bourbon Toast.
* After the party, barrels will be placed in key areas in northern Kentucky, such as MainStrasse Village and Madison Ave. in Covington and Monmouth St. and Newport on the Levee in Newport.
The barrels will remain in place for at least one year, literally lighting up the streets with artistic wayfinding, while connecting the region in a unique way.
“At the end of the day, visitors will be able to see the connections we have through these pieces of art,” said Cooper.
