Ms. Coons has significant experience leading regional and national business organizations, currently serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Council of Better Business Bureaus based in Arlington, Virginia. Ms. Coons brings to the Northern Virginia Chamber diverse experience leading regionally-focused business organizations, guiding financial and brand transformations, and successfully advocating for business in local, state, national and international arenas. Among her many leadership roles, she served previously as President and CEO of the Electronic Retailing Association and, prior to that role, as President and CEO of the Maryland Tech Council.

The selection of Ms. Coons as the Chamber’s next President and CEO comes after an exhaustive, national search facilitated by The McCormick Group, a national executive search consulting firm, and led by the Chamber’s Search Committee, chaired by Kathy Albarado, CEO of Helios HR.

"After a comprehensive search process, we are pleased to have identified the best individual to lead the Chamber into its next season of growth, innovation, and member service," said Jennifer Siciliano, Chief Communications and External Affairs Officer, Inova, and Chair of the Northern Virginia Chamber Board of Directors. “We believe success for Chamber members, businesses in Northern Virginia and businesses across greater Washington comes from regionally-focused collaboration. Julie’s exceptional background and experience leading diverse organizations makes her uniquely positioned to represent the Chamber membership and the regional business community to realize this success. “As the Voice of Business in Northern Virginia™, the Northern Virginia Chamber has an outstanding reputation serving and representing Northern Virginia’s robust business community in our region and beyond,” said Julie Coons, incoming Northern Virginia Chamber President and CEO. “I am very excited to work with Chamber members, leadership, key stakeholders, and regional partners to build upon the Chamber’s reputation as the preeminent membership organization for business. Foxconn to create tech hub in downtown Eau Claire

Says it will create 'at least' 150 jobs there

The company said the plans are “part of its initiative to spur innovation, attract talent and connect with supply chain partners,” and will “foster entrepreneurship.”
The new centers, to be named Foxconn Place Chippewa Valley, will create at least 150 high-tech jobs in Eau Claire, the company said. The employees will work with companies that will become part of Foxconn’s supply chain and contribute to the development of the AI 8K+5G ecosystem that Foxconn says it is building across the state.
Foxconn Place Chippewa Valley will include two properties. The company has entered into an agreement to acquire ‘The Grand,’ a six-story, 89-year-old building at 204 E. Grand Ave. in downtown Eau Claire. The building will be updated and converted into an incubator and laboratory for next-generation technological solutions.
Foxconn said it has also purchased over 15,000 square feet of co-working space at 200 Eau Claire St., in Haymarket Landing, which is a part of the Confluence Project a public-private partnership aimed at redeveloping the center of downtown Eau Claire and its riverfront. Foxconn will use this space as an innovation center that will be part of a talent and innovation network for the AI 8K+5G ecosystem that Foxconn is creating.
Foxconn said it plans to close on the Eau Claire properties later this year and have its operations there open in early 2019.
"We are excited to expand our Wisconn Valley footprint to the Chippewa Valley and West Central Wisconsin. Our goal in establishing Foxconn Place here is to help inspire innovative ideas, attract talent and catalyze cutting-edge solutions in this part of the state,” said Alan Yeung, Foxconn’s director of U.S. strategic initiatives and president of FEWI Development Corp. “Foxconn Place Chippewa Valley will play a key role in building a vibrant AI 8K+5G ecosystem in the U.S., with Wisconsin at the center of this vision.”
Yeung announced the Foxconn expansion to the Chippewa Valley at a news conference today with Gov. Scott Walker, Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. secretary and CEO Mark R. Hogan, Momentum West executive director Steve Jahn, and Eau Claire city manager Dale Peters.
“Once again, we’re seeing how Foxconn’s historic investment in Wisconsin is impacting every region of the state as the company makes yet another commitment to both create jobs and support entrepreneurs and innovators,” said Walker. “This is another example of the ‘Foxconn Bonus’ that goes well beyond the company’s $10 billion advanced manufacturing campus in Racine County.”
“Foxconn’s investment in the Chippewa Valley is great news for the region and the entire state as the company continues to demonstrate how its presence in Wisconsin will truly be transformational,” said Hogan. “From the day Foxconn announced it had chosen Wisconsin as the site for its campus, we have talked about the ripple effect that decision would have throughout the state. Today we are again experiencing that ripple effect here in west-central Wisconsin.”
The Eau Claire plans are the second announced by Foxconn for parts of Wisconsin outside of the southeastern region of the state. In addition to its plans for a $10 billion LCD screen manufacturing complex in Mount Pleasant, and its North American headquarters in downtown Milwaukee, the company in June announced plans to create an innovation center in Green Bay. City Of Ridgeland Chamber Grants Police Department’s Wishes

In observance of National Police Week, a time to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty and recognize law enforcement officers, the Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce granted two of Police Chief John Neal’s wishes.

Chamber president Karen Mckie said during National Police Week, which is celebrated annually throughout the week of May 15, she asked Neal for a wish list of things that the police department would like to have.

“Throughout our week of celebration, we pledge to support them. They risk their lives to protect ours.”

Matthew 5:9: Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God.”

Neal said that the department could use a thermal digital monoscope and a Sirchie evidence processing station.

McKie mentioned these items to chamber members and a few stepped up to help make the purchases. McKie and Linda Bynum were present at the Ridgeland Board of Aldermen meeting on Tuesday, June 5, representing the Chamber of Commerce.

W. Randy Keng of John Hancock-Southeastern Financial and John McCommon of Cline Tours were on hand to present a check for $1,500 to Chief Neal for the purchase of the evidence processing station.

Billy Sidehall of Merrill Lynch presented Neal with $1,352 to purchase the thermal digital monoscope.

“I am more than happy to support them,” Sidehall said. “The police department should not go without.”

Neal said the thermal digital monoscope would aid the police department in the future. The need for it came up when a homicide led to a foot chase in 2016.

The suspect ran from police and hid in a nearby tunnel on a preschool playground. The officers could not find him in the dark. Read more: Northside Sun

South Central Kentucky Business Expo bringing in over 70 businesses

For the past nine years, the Glasgow Barren County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with local businesses to bring the South Central Kentucky Business Expo. The event continues to evolve but the mission of the Business Expo remains focused on getting local businesses to connect with other local opportunities. This mission is accomplished through bringing business leaders into one location to network.
The sponsors and over 70 local businesses look forward to networking with you again on Tuesday, Aug. 28 beginning at 9 a.m. at Ralphie's Fun Center in Glasgow.
By setting up booths, businesses are able to showcase what they offer and how they can partner with others to grow opportunities for all involved.
“If a business person takes advantage of the opportunities during the expo, the networking opportunities are unparalleled,” says Expo Committee Member Nicole Randall. “There is real power in having over 70 businesses in one location. The event is designed so a person can walk around the booths and really see opportunities they may not have known otherwise.”
Admission is free to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. Most all booths have giveaways and drawings they award throughout the day. “There’s nowhere else a person can walk into one location and be able to have this amazing variety of services and local businesses just waiting to see how they can help you,” said Expo Chair James Moore.
