#BestChamber practices: Batavia Area Chamber: Chamber Testimonials  on website ( 1 of a Dozen)

Alarm Detection Systems has been a member of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce for many years. ADS is very active in the NFIB, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, and several national industry groups. So belonging to the local chambers fits with our general understanding that with success comes the need to support the business community in general. Batavia was no exception. It was just a few short years ago that we learned the real value of the Batavia Chamber specifically.

Tri-Com Central Dispatch, which serves Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles and Elburn had abruptly made a decision that would effectively eliminate competition for commercial fire alarm monitoring within their service area. The net result would have been dissolving all the fire alarm monitoring business we built in the area since 1968 and by not allowing competition; it would drive up the cost of monitoring for all business owners. It was then we realized the full value of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber leadership and some concerned customers appeared for us before the Batavia City Council who was involved in the adoption of the Tri-Com resolution. To the credit of the City of Batavia, Mayor Jeff Schielke and City Manager Bill McGrath ran the most transparent meetings in the Tri-Cities giving us the best hearing of any community. The chamber being out front for us was huge. At the end of this long skirmish, the measure failed and fair competition for business prevailed.

In part because of the Batavia Chamber advocating for us, Alarm Detection Systems continues to grow as the largest private alarm company in Illinois. More importantly to the membership, every fire alarm subscriber in Batavia has choices to pick the most reasonably priced fire monitoring their money can buy.

On Wednesday morning, the Chincoteague ponies will be making their way across the Assateague channel as part of the 93rd annual Chincoteague Pony Swim, and this event brings big business to the small island of Chincoteague.
Evelyn Shotwell, the Executive Director at the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce said, "Small business owners may make more this week than they would the first quarter of the year."
Loree Solé, a volunteer at the pony swim said, "Everybody counts on it every year. Very good income."
Visitors eager to shop and eat at locally owned places come from both near and far.
Liz Alexander, a visitor said, "We live in New Zealand. We are visiting!"
All those visitors, thousands of them, are taking advantage of all that the small island has to offer.
Liz Alexander said, "We've done Bill's and we've done AJ's. We've done Duke's Grill so there's a few that we've done."
Brian McDowell, another visitor said, "We've been enjoying it, looking at the scenery. We went to Etta's the first night and we looked out at the watershed and it was a very nice view."
Chincoteague locals said they don't mind these big crowds at all.
Solé said, "It's just notoriety for a lot of places that people didn't even think about that are on the island and everything so, it really helps, it really does."
Everyone is just excited to watch the wild ponies swim across the channel bright and early Wednesday morning.
Lillianna Bergersen and Blake Griffith, some young visitors said, "We're going to walk down to pony swim lane I think and then we're going to see the ponies walking parade."

DAE-IL Corporation Breaks Ground On $50M Facility In Murray

A Korean automotive parts maker and local officials ceremonially broke ground on Monday on a $50 million facility in Murray.
South Korea-based DAE-IL Corporation (DIC) is building a 295,000 square-foot facility in the Murray West Industrial Park. Construction has already begun and is expected to take between 12-14 months to complete. The company plans to hire 120 full-time employees within five years.
DIC President Jung Ryol "Johnny" Kim said the company manufactures parts, gears and components for the automotive and heavy equipment industries. Customers include GM, Tesla, Hyundai, Kia and others.
"As the global demand for our product is growing rapidly, we wanted to have this new facility here in the United States to satisfy our U.S. customers," Kim said. "I heard that Kentucky is at the heart of the automotive and aerospace industries and it has already achieved great technological investment and... has contributed growth to the national economy. With the highly skilled workers of the community, we will continue this trend for sure."
He said DIC is planning to produce in Murray various gears of the powertrain for internal combustion engine vehicles. The company will then manufacture gear boxes and differential assemblies for new cars. "With these additional products, DIC will be at the forefront of the advancement of electric vehicles."
He expects the company will reach an annual sales of $100 million within six years. "As our business grows, we will expand our investment and be hiring to meet the demands," he said.
Murray-Calloway Economic Development Corporation President Mark Manning thanked numerous local and state officials and project partners for helping the development come to fruition. Calloway County Judge Executive Larry Elkins, Murray Mayor Jack Rose and TVA representative Stephen Surls also delivered welcoming remarks.
MCEDC chair and former state Senator Ken Winters said the project is "the largest start-up investment" Murray has ever had. Read more: WKMS
