Good morning Chamber world! Today is going to be a GREAT day!

Indy Chamber collaboration: State offers Raytheon up to $4.4 million in incentives

Indiana is offering defense contractor Raytheon incentives worth up to $4.4 million in a deal expected to bring 250 jobs to Indianapolis over the next few years.
Gov. Mike Pence and Raytheon officials made the announcement Monday at the company's Eastside facility.
"Raytheon's announcement today places the development of key national security technology squarely in Indiana," said Pence. "We're currently witnessing major players in the global defense and aerospace sectors growing in the state."
The Indianapolis Star reported last week that Raytheon planned to move work now being done at facilities in Chula Vista, Calif., and Norfolk, Va., to Indianapolis.
The new jobs will focus on depot support, including modernizing and upgrading the capabilities of military platforms, systems engineering and systems installation. They represent a 25 percent increase in the company's Indianapolis workforce of 1,000.
"The partnership we enjoy with the state of Indiana and the city of Indianapolis is yet another reason we're moving forward to expand our presence in the region," said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services.
Under the agreement, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Raytheon up to $4,400,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $400,000 in training grants. According to IEDC, the incentives are based on the company's plan to create a total 349 new jobs by 2020. IEDC said the company is not eligible to claim incentives until Hoosiers are hired.
Also, IEDC will provide the city of Indianapolis with up to $1 million in infrastructure assistance from the state's Industrial Development Grant Fund. The city of Indianapolis agreed to support the project at the request of Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber.
"We're seeing a focus on the importance of fostering an environment where jobs related to advanced industries such as these create a ripple effect within the community," said Michael Huber, president and CEO of the Indy Chamber. "Studies are showing that creating jobs that support advanced industries helps our metro to be more recession-proof, promotes STEM education, and is important when it comes to competing globally." Chamber interest: Northern Kentucky leaders help welcome baseball's All-Star Game

Northern Kentucky's business and government leaders are having a ball getting ready for Major League Baseball's All-Star Game in July.
Boone County Judge-executive Gary Moore joined Thomas More College President David Armstrong, Covington Mayor Sherry Carran, Rosie Red, Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce board members Mark Exterkamp, Brent Cooper and Ralph Dusing gathered at Thomas More College Friday, March 6, during a women's basketball game for "Baseball Across the Region."
During the event, they passed an "All-Star Summer" baseball, similar to the passing of the Olympic torch. It was the first such event in Northern Kentucky. A similar event was held during the Crosstown Shootout basketball game at Xavier University in February.
Moore was proud to participate.
"It's so exciting that the Major League Baseball All-Star Game is going to be held here in Greater Cincinnati this year," he said. "We are trying to promote the event and detail the great benefits of our region. The impact that the event will have on tourism and support for our businesses is enormous." El Dorado (Arkansas) Chamber Event --- Real Estate Investment Seminar!

Texarkana developers, Curt Green and Jason Clanton, have a great deal of interest in working with El Dorado for economic development projects. Both have toured El Dorado with me and expressed their opinions on Mellor Park Mall and NW Shopping Village. They understand our community's dire need for apartments and modern industrial buildings. Further, they understand our economic development challenges of locating funds to build a speculative building or locating a developer to build a large scale apartment complex.

Curt and Jason are organizing a Real Estate Investment Seminar at the Chamber Board Room on Thursday, March 5th at 6:00 PM. The Chamber's address is 111 West Main Street, El Dorado, Arkansas 71730. We will be serving a light dinner, so please RSVP by either emailing the Chamber at chamber@goeldorado.com or by calling at 870-863-6113.

The Real Estate Investment Seminar will examine the basics of Real Estate Investments including Cash Flow, Equity Growth, Rate of Return, and Cap Rates to name a few. They will explain the different types of leases and how property and lease types affect a property's value. Their presentation will include analyzing investment opportunities in retail, apartments and industrial properties. This seminar is set up for owner/lesser, active investors or passive investors.

Flint & Genesee chamber YouthQuest Program gets $2,000 grant from Michigan Council for Arts

The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce YouthQuest program was awarded a $2,000 grant to support the creation of Club 3D, an arts instruction clubs for YouthQuest's middle and high school students. The grant, awarded by the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs, will support art education for Club 3D at YouthQuest, an afterschool program that serves more than 2,000 K-12 students in Genesee County.
Club 3D will utilize the "expertise of local artists who will serve as art vendors at the program" where students can build leadership, teamwork kills and resourcefulness and explore the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Students will be taught the use of equipment, tools and techniques, and art elements such as composition, form vs. function and materials.
The program will have field trips including scrap yards, museums and manufacturers who seek workers with the skills that students will be introduced.
"We have found that our YouthQuest high school students like to engage in less traditional forms of art and instead practice techniques and skills that not only encourage artistic expression, but are also practical introductions to career-relevant skills," said Rhetta Hunyady, vice president of Education and Training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber. Wheaton (Illinois) Chamber Delight: River City Roasters Among Top 100 Small Businesses

The top 100 were named by U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Voting ends Thursday.

Tyler Fivecoat and Erich Goetel, co-owners of River City Roasters are among two businesses in Wheaton to be named in the top 100 Businesses by U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The window to apply and news of being named the top 100 came at an unusual time for the business.
“I filled the application out like two days before we went to Africa,” Fivecoat said. “When we were in Africa, right before we came back, we found out we made the top 100.”
Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kerry O’Brien said any business could apply, but River City Roasters was one of the businesses she encouraged to apply. One of the others was Prairie Path Books, Gatherings and Great Reads , who are also in the top 100 businesses.
“Those were the two that let me know they were applying,” she said.
The business owners were in Africa to research coffee beans and the possibility of purchasing coffee directly from a farmer - known as direct trade coffee. But such a prospect is very expensive, so they would have to partner with other roasters to do so.
“The cost for me to bring over coffee is very very expensive, like $90,000 expensive,” Fivecoat said. Read more: Wheaton Patch

Jackson County Chamber Spotlight: For Turf Masters, it's all about the people

Why did you go into business?
Originally I went into business to improve the turf quality at Pascagoula's Dixie Youth Facility for baseball. The World Series was coming here in 2002, and today we have one of the best surfaces for playing baseball compared to any other facility around here--something our children deserve. Since that time we have been striving to beat the odds that face small businesses today in our country. I wanted our company to be in the 10 percent of small businesses that succeed through working extremely hard and having a written plan for success.
• What do you offer your customers?
At Turf Masters Lawn Care, Inc. we offer the most educated and well trained workforce in the landscape industry on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We have industry certified professionals in irrigation, concrete paving, retaining walls and turf grass management. Our team of professionals have been transforming both residential and commercial landscapes along the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 2000. We have grown our landscape and maintenance company through the opening of our new garden center and gift shop (which includes home décor items). We also grow our own colorful annual plants (now as many as 25,000 to 30,000 annuals per quarter). We also offer outdoor living areas. Read more: Gulf Live
