Top business leaders in Arkansas are full of optimism headed into the new year. The latest survey of more than 100 Arkansas company leaders indicates an improved outlook for the first half of 2015 in revenue increases, greater capital spending, and hiring.
Talk Business & Politics – in conjunction with the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and consulting group CEG Partners – released its third “Business Leaders Confidence Survey,” which captures opinions on the future direction of Arkansas economic conditions.
“What a difference six months can make. What a difference a year can make. Clearly, there is momentum building among business leaders for a healthy 2015,” said Mike Stafford, managing partner with Little Rock-based CEG Partners, which conducted and analyzed the semi-annual report. Tom Eblen: Kentucky's economy continues to reflect national trends
As a recent economic study notes, Kentucky's economy is really nine very different regional economies that reflect a national trend: urban areas are doing well, but rural areas are struggling.
Lexington and Louisville together accounted for 45 percent of the state's job growth over the past five years, according to a study by economist Paul Coomes for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
That means Central Kentucky this year should continue to capitalize on several sources of momentum, including manufacturing growth, entrepreneurship and urban redevelopment, as well as Lexington's growing reputation as a good place to live, work and visit.
The biggest manufacturing news this year is likely to be Toyota's new Lexus assembly line. When the $531 million Georgetown plant expansion is finished late this year, 600 additional workers will make 50,000 Lexus 350 ES cars a year, in addition to the current Camrys, Avalons and Venzas. Chamber news: Mt. Prospect leaders think business will be good in 2015
The annual Dynamic Year
Luncheon organized by the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce gives local
business leaders a chance to reflect on the past and then look toward
the future.
That future will build upon the optimism of 2014, Mayor Arlene Juracek said during her keynote address.
"2015 will show once again that our optimism was real and should be sustained," she said.
Juracek said that economic
activity continues to hum in Mount Prospect, with existing commercial
areas doing well and developers reaching out with new business
proposals. She expects long-dormant commercial sites, like Central Plaza
at Central Road and Main Street, to have new life in 2015. And she
predicted that Randhurst Village, which is now on the market, will get a
new owner this year. Read more: Daily HeraldChamber Tweet of the Day: Madison, Wisconsin Chamber

Iowa Budget Tops the Agenda at Sioux City Chamber of Commerce Forum
With the start of a new year, local economic leaders met with state legislators Friday morning at the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce to discuss the 2015 Iowa budget. But with only about 3% of the state's general fund up-for-grabs, it looks to be a year of very limited flexibility.
With the large number of state reforms and tax-cuts taking effect in 2015, legislators say that extra money will be hard to come by. State Representative Chuck Soderberg, representing Iowa's 5th district, says, "We've got education reform costs next year of $59 million dollars. We've got the property tax reform bill and the back-fill to local governments and tax credits which total to $142 million."
After incurring all of the costs, $200 million of the total $7 billion dollar budget is not appropriated to cover expenses - that's less than 3%. Read more: SiouxlandMatters.com
