Chamber tool: How a new Minnesota state website is helping students make college pay

Bill Blazar, interim president of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, predicts the wage and placement information will be useful to multiple audiences. “It gives the student seeking the training the kind of information they need to make a wise career decision,” he says. “The other thing it does is put some additional pressure on the institutions to change and adapt their curriculum, so that their graduates are going to meet the demands of the private-sector economy.” Read more: MinnPost

Chamber issue: Lawrence Kansas Commissioners look to make decision on fiber optic network in November

The headline topic at Tuesday night's city commission meeting, Lawrence's fiber optic network.

Lawrence has fiber optic infrastructure that according to city commissioners is under-used. In today's age of technology and need of high speed internet, commissioners said it should be used.

Wicked Fiber originally requested a $1 million loan guarantee to launch a fiber-to-the-home fiber optic pilot project. With the city's financial support they would provide faster internet to Lawrence residents. The request was then cut to $300,000. However, commissioners questioned the request. Chamber collaboration in Wisconsin: Waterfalls offer addition to fall color viewing

With fall weather sticking around before the snow flurries stay, people are encouraged to visit waterfalls across Iron County. The idea to promote the 11 waterfalls in the county came from students in the publishing class at the Mercer School. Neil Klemme, the youth development agent at the Iron County University of Wisconsin-Extension office, presented the idea of having the students become more involved in county-based marketing projects.

The students helped to redesigned the Fe logo and also created a brochure, highlighting the waterfalls in Iron County. According to Klemme, many of the students didn't know where many of the local waterfalls were and wanted to create something to not only help travelers, but local people as well.

"I love the way it turned out," Klemme said. "I couldn't believe how well it turned out." Both the Hurley and Mercer chambers of commerce participated in the project, providing ideas to students. Read more: Your Daily Globe
