Branson chamber celebrates business, charities and hospitality

Twenty-one area businesses and charitable organizations were honored Thursday evening at the Small Business, Charity of the Year and Ozark Mountain Hospitality dinner, hosted by the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce & the Small Business Development Advisory Council. The dinner, held at Chateau on the Lake was sponsored by Branson's Imax Entertainment Complex, recipients of the 2013 Small Business of the Year and Cox Medical Center Branson. Northern Kentucky Chamber to honor Emerging 30

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce will recognize the success of growing businesses at its Emerging 30 Celebration on Oct. 23. To qualify as an Emerging 30 company, each must have achieved at least $250,000 in revenue and an average annual growth of 15 percent or more over the past three years. Arkansas Chamber news: 'Jobs Now' Summit Examines Growing Skills Gap

The event focused on workforce development in the state and attracted legislative, business and educational leaders including Gov. Mike Beebe, who provided opening remarks.
A lunchtime panel discussion included Bill Hannah, chairman of the board for Nabholz Construction; Phil Simon, global manager for dealer and product training at John Deere Co.; and Maverick Transporation CEO Steve Williams.
The afternoon panel discussion featured Tori Huggins, lead welding instructor with the Arkansas Pipe Trades Association; Glen Fenter, president of Mid-South Community College in West Memphis; Delta Regional Authority co-chair Chris Masingill; and Joe Quinn, senior director of public affairs and government relations for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville.
Roby Brock of Talk Business & Politics moderated each session.

Minnesota chamber survey: most businesses opposed to new road money

The results of a statewide survey released today show most Minnesota business leaders are opposed to new transportation funding sources.
The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual Minnesota Business Barometer Survey found that 57-percent of the 350 randomly sampled participants believe the state does not need to find new revenue to make needed investments in transportation. Thirty-two percent said new revenue should be identified.
