Langley Air Force Base 100th Anniversary Gala; City of Hampton and Virginia Peninsula Chamber Partnership
This year, 2016, Hampton and Joint Base Langley-Eustis celebrate the 100th anniversary of the purchase of land for Langley Air Force Base, one of the earliest military bases in America specifically built for air power. Today Langley is the oldest continually active air force base in the world, and is the oldest airfield in Virginia.
In partnership with the City of Hampton, the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will be facilitating the Langley Air Force Base 100th Anniversary Gala held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center on Saturday, September 17, 2016. This is a Black Tie event, which will include cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, and a guest speaker (TBA). Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Full Spectrum – The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band. Through sponsorships we hope to provide 400 Airmen with tickets to the event, at no charge to them.

Sue Reed, IOM of Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce Graduates from Institute for Organization Management
A Leadership Training Program Produced by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Institute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is pleased to announce that Sue Reed, IOM, President and CEO, of the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce, has graduated from the program and has received the recognition of IOM. Awarded to all graduates of the Institute program, the IOM Graduate Recognition signifies the individual’s completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management. In addition, participants can earn credit hours toward the Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) or Certified Association Executive (CAE) certifications. Nearly 1,000 individuals attend Institute annually.
“Institute graduates are recognized across the country as leaders in their industries and organizations,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s vice president of Institute for Organization Management. “These individuals have the knowledge, skills, and dedication necessary to achieve professional and organizational success in the dynamic association and chamber industries.”
Since its commencement in 1921, the Institute program has been educating tens of thousands of association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders on how to build stronger organizations, better serve their members and become strong business advocates. Institute’s curriculum consists of four weeklong sessions at five different university locations throughout the country. Through a combination of required courses and electives in areas such as leadership, advocacy, marketing, finance, and membership, Institute participants are able to enhance their own organizational management skills and add new fuel to their organizations, making them run more efficiently and effectively.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce to host Economic Vibe on Department of Labor's Overtime Rule
Gulfport, MS – The Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, Inc. will host an Economic VIBE on the Department of Labor’s Overtime Rule: What You Should Know on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, doors open at 7:30 a.m. and program will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. at the Knight Nonprofit Center.
Local industry experts will discuss the facts about the Final Rule. Speakers include Susan Denham of the Department of Labor, David Thomas of Balch and Bingham, and Amber Olsen of Nextaff Gulf Coast.

Chamber interest: The Americans are starting to come back, says Tourism Sault Ste. Marie
By water and by rail, tourism numbers in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario are up, says a local tourism authority.
Ian McMillan, executive director for Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, said over the last two years the city has been experiencing increases in registrations of American tourists for the first time since 9/11.
Drastically lower bridge crossing numbers may suggest less American tourists crossing to Sault, Ontario — but McMillan said those figures are misleading.
“With the exchange rate not in our favour, the numbers of [Canadian] residents going over has diminished a lot and that affects the bridge traffic,” said McMillan.
Tony Haller, executive director of the Sault, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, said many businesses on his side of the river would like to see more Canadian tourists, but adds their city ‘never sees the highest highs or lowest lows,’ in terms of tourism dollars from Canada.
Although the ACR passenger train from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Hearst has been out of operation since last summer, the Agawa Canyon Tour Train is still going strong. Read more: SOOToday

Woodford County Chamber event: Versailles Twilight Festival needs vendors
Artists, crafters, nonprofits and entertainers are needed for the Versailles Twilight Festival. This annual free family event, sponsored by the Woodford County Chamber of Commerce, will be from noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 13 in downtown Versailles.

Tomahawk Chamber receives $30K marketing grant
TOMAHAWK, Wis. (WSAW) -- People who live here, already know what makes the community of Tomahawk so special. A new $30,000 grant will help spread that message to an even broader audience."The grant has been earmarked specifically for brand strategy and brand development, so really what we're hoping to do is be able to market this region, specifically what makes us unique to the northwoods what makes us unique to Wisconsin," Jesica Witte, Executive Director of the Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce, said.
The chamber plans to use the funds as a way to restructure their image and began branding the area in a new way. It’s something that should benefit each and every small business in the town of just over 3,300.
"We haven’t had a chance to do this kind of in depth look at why people visit, why people don't visit, and this is going to give us the opportunity to do that," Witte, said. Read more: WSAW TV
