Good morning Chamber World! It's going to be a GREAT day!

Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce leader Bob McCoy announces retirement

After 23 years of service to the community, a longtime leader is vacating his position. President & CEO of the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce, Bob McCoy has just announced his retirement at the Chamber board meeting.

He says, “I was hired to come to Eau Claire to get the Highway 53 bypass completed. That is a huge success. The chamber is one of the top 100 in the country and I'm very proud of that. I will miss all of the people and the fact that I believe I am a resource for the Community and I will miss that."

The soon to be 69-year-old announced plans to retire on Friday, June 2, 2017. McCoy has been previously recognized for his thirty four years leading four Chambers in Rock Rapids, IA, Fairmont and Albert Lea, MN as well as Eau Claire.

It's not yet clear as to why McCoy has chosen to retire at this time, but in 2014, he was named Chamber Executive of the Year by the Mid America Chamber Executives (MACE) organization. MACE is a six state group of Chamber professionals (Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin). There are over six hundred Chambers in the six states. Christian County Chamber Event: U.S. Sen. Rand Paul talks Fort Campbell, economic growth in Hoptown

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul believes vocal leaders in the Christian County area have pushed for issues that have recently been on his radar.
One topic in particular relates to the 2020 Census and counting in the local population any military personnel who are deployed outside of the U.S.
Speaking to community members during a meeting Monday at H&R Agri Power, the senator said he wasn’t aware of the significance of the issue until it was brought to his attention by citizens and leaders of Christian County.
“This will benefit the community and it is a good thing your leaders let us know about it,” he said to about 40 attendees.  “You guys are effective at letting us know what you want.”
Paul is confident the census rule will get the push it needs to take effect.
Another way the community has let its voice be heard, Paul said, relates back to Fort Campbell. He said it is clear in Washington the support the post has from its local community, which in turn can provide security from situations like cuts.
“Fort Campbell is safe from a strategic point of view,” he said.
The meeting was hosted by the Christian County Chamber of Commerce, and President and CEO Kelli Pendleton stressed to Paul the issues and efforts currently in the area.
One major item in particular is designating the Breathitt Parkway as an interstate, she said, adding it is No. 1 from an economic development standpoint for the region currently.

Another top priority is promoting ag tourism and the agriculture industry. Job growth was also heavily stressed. Read more: Kentucky New Era

Want to own a suite in the Virginia Beach arena? Business owners get first shot.

Is your company a Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce member with some extra cash to entertain friends, employees and clients? A suite at the planned arena near the Oceanfront might be the place for you.
The arena’s development company, United States Management, is giving members the first chance to reserve suites at the $210 million venue. They must put down a deposit by Aug. 17 , according to an email USM President Andrea Kilmer sent members Friday.
For $70,000 to $100,000, suites come with a mix of amenities, including oversized theater chairs, personalized signs and 12 tickets to all public events. Owners will be able to customize their space to their liking. Thirty suites that haven’t been reserved yet are up for grabs, according to the email.
In an interview, Kilmer said the early-bird special is a way to show appreciation to Hampton Roads business owners who have supported the arena.
“We had been asked by a lot of those people, ‘When can I buy?’ ” Kilmer said. “We wanted to reach out to those friends as a way to say, ‘Thank you.’ ” Read more: Virginian-Pilot

Your team can be as big as you want as long as you’ve got at least 5 people. And remember, the only way to make sure you all get to run in the same wave is to register early and together, so don’t wait! Otherwise we can’t guarantee that you’ll be sloshing around in Mud with your friends.
To register as a team. Have team members signup for their wave individually. Then have the team captain contact Julie Pearson at Race Time let her know who is on the team and the team name. The will coordinate this to ensure that you all get to run in the same wave.

Children:
We plan on allowing kids under 14 to run with an adult.
They would pay full price at the time of registration since they are running the regular course.
We will have a children’s course and that price will be $5.00 per child and can be paid the day of the event.
This will be a smaller course near the beginning where the kids can have fun and get muddy like their parents.
They will need someone to watch them however.
We will have people there to supervise but not to babysit.

Virginia Chamber of Commerce looking for fastest growing companies

The Virginia Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday it has opened nominations for its 2016 Fantastic 50 award program, which recognizes the fastest-growing companies in the state.
Nominations for the annual program are due Jan. 8, the chamber said in a news release.
To be eligible, a company must be privately-held, headquartered in Virginia and show sales between $200,000 and $200 million. It also must have positive revenue and net income growth in its most recent fiscal year over the previous year.
Companies are judged on four-year sales revenue history. Accounting and advisory firm Dixon Hughes Goodman will verify entries.
The Fantastic 50 award program is now in its 21st year. Virginia Business is one of the sponsors of the program and publishes the list of winners in its May issue.

Christian County (Kentucky) Chamber: Brainstorming to boost retail

For Lanita Wilson, vice president of community affairs with the Christian County Chamber of Commerce, success in the community is possible when a cross section of people come together.
She believes that success is becoming obtainable for the chamber’s community vision plan.
In the fourth community consultants meeting Thursday, a product of the vision plan, local officials, business owners and community members brainstormed on how to move the community forward.
This particular meeting focused on assisting local retailers through campaigns and creating a community speakers program.
In terms of assisting local businesses, the vision plan’s target is to increase local sales 10 percent by 2020.
To do so, attendees agreed businesses and the community have to join forces, assisting one another along the way.
One attendee pointed out that in order to grow small businesses, the community has to be aware of what is available. An idea was presented to produce one collective list of all the local businesses in Christian County. The challenge comes in producing the material and disbursing it at a reasonable cost. Arts used as way to revitalize economy in rural Wisconsin
In rural Sauk County, acres-long art installations inhabit farm fields and musicians strum guitars within earshot of lowing cattle.
In Reedsburg and Baraboo, fledgling nonprofits work to build stronger communities and vital economies via the arts.
And in the tourism juggernaut of Wisconsin Dells, officials seek to transform a magnet for summer vacationers into a year-round destination with a new arts district.
In those places and elsewhere in rural Wisconsin, "the arts," loosely interpreted, star in a movement driven by 21st century cultural and economic forces.
"We're in an interesting historical moment right now," said Anne Katz, executive director of Arts Wisconsin. "The economy is changing and we're living it." Read more: Star-Tribune
