The Executive Director is responsible for achievement of the Chamber’s mission and financial objectives. The Executive Director is responsible for the implementation of the policies and directions brought forth by the board of directors.

Additionally, this individual is responsible for reporting on activity aimed at meeting any annual goals and objectives,overseeing organizational finances, as well as all administrative management activity needed to be conducted on a day-to-day basis.

Primary Relationships

The Executive Director reports to the Chairman of the Board and/or President, plus receives guidance from the board through the executive committee.

Role Objectives

The Executive Director is responsible for the management of all chamber operations, staff, development and implementation of all policies, goals and other activities required by the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director is responsible for financial management and goal setting which includes the creation and oversight of the annual budget.

The Executive Director acts as spokesperson and liaison for the Chamber of Commerce in all interaction with other groups or organizations and individuals as per directions of the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director is responsible for periodic reporting to the Board of Directors about the development, implementation and accomplishments of all activity conducted by the Chamber of Commerce as per the programs and goals set by the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director is responsible for the execution of all activities associated with the Chamber of Commerce. This includes the review and evaluation of program activities, oversee the compliance of any contractual obligations the chamber may need to fulfill, the allocation of resources for the provision of effectiveness and efficiency and administers policy and program objectives as outlined by the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director is the chief supervisor of all assigned staff and is responsible for personnel activity including the interviewing, recommendation for hiring, employee training, the planning and assigning and directing of all employment activity, work performance evaluations, conduct appraisal and reward as well as the administration of discipline and the answering of all workplace complaints and resolution of problems.

Duties & Responsibilities
Provide leadership to staff and manage all aspects of Chamber operations
Develop strategic plans and policies to meet annual membership and financial targets
Responsible for finance, budgeting, marketing, public relations, and sales. Ensures administrative and financial policies and controls
Responsible for fundraising and sponsorships for Chamber programs and events
Business development in Industrial business sectors including manufacturing, transportation, logistics, construction, and other related industries. Recruit and steward new business relationships with C-level decision makers from industrial sectors
Promote, grow and manage the Mayor’s Manufacturing and Transportation Councils.
Work with community leaders, city staff, elected officials and others to design, create and implement partnerships that facilitate economic development in the City.
Cultivate positive working relationships with organizations that affect economic prosperity in the community such as the County Workforce Board, Fontana Education Alliance, and others.
Act as the chief spokesperson and/or representative for the Chamber, at the discretion of the board. Perform community relations and outreach; represent Chamber at community meetings, presentations, board meetings, special events, press conferences, and City events
Facilitate board development. With advice and counsel of the Board Chair and/or President, develop agendas board books, minutes and financials for all board meetings and retreats. Prepare all executive committee, full board and committee meetings.
Maintain positive working relationship between the chamber and the City of Fontana. Ensure compliance with all contractual agreements.
Manage contractual agreements between the Chamber and other entities
Recruit, train, supervise and develop Chamber staff employees including approving work schedules and time off
Ensures Chamber compliance with federal, state and local regulations and requirements
Promotes growth, retention, and expansion of existing member businesses
Conduct legislative policy analysis, draft letters in support or opposition to various legislative issues. Participate in legislative calls with advocacy groups such as CalChamber, US Chamber of Commerce, and Inland Empire

Chamber Alliance.
Maintain and manage CRM system for new business development
Attend City Council and Planning Commission meetings
Participate in Fontana Rotary and other service/business clubs and events

Minimum Requirements
High School diploma (Bachelor or higher degree desirable)
Visionary leader capable of taking abstract concepts and creating and executing strategies to achieve goals
Strong communication skills both written and oral
Politically astute
Comfortable interacting with all levels of business leaders
Strong organizational skills

Summary
The President and CEO of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce is the key Chamber representative and advocate for business and economic development in Carbondale. The ideal candidate will guide activities to promote business in the community. These activities may include the development and promotion of programs, events, and educational opportunities for members and the community. The ideal candidate will work to grow and retain membership, seek opportunities to increase the value of Chamber membership, and promote local and regional economic development. Reporting to the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the ideal candidate will also serve as the manager of the Chamber staff, and will organize and serve on Chamber committees.

Job Duties
The primary function of the President is to carry out the role, goals, and mission of the Chamber, as expressed through bylaws, policies, resolutions and actions of the Board of Directors. This may include:
  • Monitor, supervise, and oversee the activities and projects of the staff on a close and frequent basis.
  • Work with the Treasurer and finance committee to manage the finances of the Chamber.
  • Work to maintain the Chamber’s competitive posture within the Chamber associations. The scope of the organization is the Southern Illinois Region.
  • Direct short and long‐term objectives, policies, budgets, and plans for the organization and oversee their consistent interpretation, implementation, and achievement.
  • Provide key performance indicators to the leadership of the organization.
  • Represent the organization to the community, industry groups, membership, and the general public.
  • Work with volunteers and the organization’s leadership to implement strategic plans.
  • Direct proactive outreach to members.
  • Maintain effective communications and relations with the Boards, officers, and committee chairs, other organizations, and with other associations and boards.
  • Promote professionalism and expertise of the Chamber to relevant audiences.
  • Build awareness and support for high standards in the Chamber among members, news media, regulators, and policymakers.
  • Work with and serve as a member of all committees in whatever way necessary in terms of organizing and equipping them to carry out their programs or projects.
  • Communicate with the general membership and the public. Answer all official correspondence.
  • Attend all meetings of the Board of Directors, Chamber Committees, and of the membership.
  • Work with the finance committee and Treasurer in seeing that the Chamber finances are handled in a proper and prudent manner within the approved budget.
  • Facilitate income through new members, re‐evaluation of accounts, and membership retention.
  • Solicit membership.
  • Represent the Chamber to individuals looking for new industrial or commercial locations within our area.

Education and Experience

Position Summary:
The Concierge provides exceptional member experience to all callers and visitors of the GR Chamber. This position keeps the Chamber Office and Work Café running smoothly on a daily basis by providing customer service, sales support and other administrative functions. This position also provides backup to other Chamber teams as required. Due to Covid, this position may require working remotely some days.

Essential Responsibilities:
· Furnishes callers with information about the Chamber and the community.
· Greets and checks in visitors.

· Provides backup to Business Services - Sign & Seal - Certificate of Origin. Work with U.S. Department of Commerce on rules and forms. · Maintains current listing of staff home addresses.
· Trains on phones and front desk duties for those who will be covering front desk.
· Maintains current front desk manual.
· Provides a monthly schedule for lunch front desk coverage.
· Assists SCORE walk-in clients/SCORE workshops.
· Assists our partner members with visitors.
· Schedules the downstairs meeting rooms.
· Purchases staff birthday cards and schedules signage.
· Completes processing of Davenport Tuition Discount Requests.
· Maintains the appearance of the work café by ensuring cleanliness, stocking supplies, making coffee, and unloading/loading the dishwasher.
· Provides excellent customer service to ensure members and guests feel as though they belong.
· Logs purchases into CRM database on a quarterly basis.
· Matches renewal membership letters with invoices for sales/accounting upon request.
· Provides payment receipts to members.
· Enters new member profiles into CRM database.
· Maintains the CRM database to ensure all member data is up-to-date and accurate
· Receives and processes email approvals for job postings, profile updates and coupons on website.
· Assist with accounting functions such as accounts payable, collections, journal entries, etc.
