Chamber of Commerce heart: 2015 Lakeshore ATHENA Scholarship available for women to reach their potential
Applications for the 2015 Lakeshore ATHENA Scholarship Program are now being accepted at the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. The Lakeshore ATHENA Scholarship Program is designed assist women in reaching their full potential through financial support for training programs and education. Women 30 years or older who live or work in Ottawa, Allegan or Muskegon County may apply.
Not only can the scholarship money be used for education but also for other expenses such as childcare, housing or transportation. Applications are now being accepted and must be postmarked by May 15, 2015.
The scholarships are offered through the Lakeshore ATHENA Awards Program, a collaboration of the Chamber of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg, Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce and the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of commerce.

Virginia attorney general to visit Eastern Shore chamber
Attorney General Mark R. Herring will visit aquaculture business, Chamber of Commerce and NASA Wallops Flight Facility on Va. Shore tour.
Attorney General Mark R. Herring will head to the Eastern Shore on Tuesday for a aquaculture tour, meeting, and discussion of the importance of water quality at the historic JC Walker Brothers Inc.
Afterwards, Attorney General Herring will host a regional meeting in Melfa as part of his statewide public safety tour to discuss local public safety issues.
The Attorney General will close the day with a visit to NASA's Wallops Island Flight Facility.
As state senator, Attorney General Herring played a leading role in helping to secure funding for launch infrastructure improvements at Virginia's spaceport at Wallops Island. Read more: Delmarvanow.com
Oxford-Lafayette Chamber accepting nominations for the 44th Annual Citizen of the Year Honoree
The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations
for 2015 Citizen of the Year for the Oxford/Lafayette County/University
community.
Each year since
1972, the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce has sought to recognize
individuals who have made positive contributions to Oxford, Lafayette County
and the University of Mississippi as its Citizen of the Year.
If you know of
someone who has benefited and made a direct, lasting impact on our community
through volunteer service, please help to recognize them by submitting their
name as a nominee for 44th Annual Citizen of the Year. A completed
nomination form, a typewritten biography of the individual and three nomination
letters are required for each nomination.
Last year’s
honoree for Citizen of the Year was Max Hipp. For a complete list of past

Candidates will be
judged on the basis of the following criteria: 1) Positive contributions
to the Oxford/Lafayette/University community; 2) Contributions above and beyond
those normally expected in an elective or appointive office, or above and
beyond mere success in a business or profession; and 3) Perception as a role
model for good citizenship and volunteerism in a non-paid capacity.
No candidate shall
be discriminated against because of race, creed, color, age, sex or national
origin. Consideration of candidates shall be in strict confidence and no
announcement of the successful candidate will be made prior to the Chamber/EDF Annual
Meeting Luncheon, scheduled for Thursday June 4, 2015.

Waukesha County Business Alliance recognizes 2015 Top 10 Businesses of the Year
Waukesha-based ProHealth Care has been named as one of the 2015 Top 10 Businesses of the Year by the Waukesha County Business Alliance and BizTimes Media.
The annual awards program recognizes companies headquartered in southeastern Wisconsin that have demonstrated consistent financial growth and dedication to good business practices through employee relations, customer-focused commitment and community service involvement.
The Top 10 Businesses of the Year will be honored at a luncheon to be presented by the Waukesha Business Alliance and BizTimes Media on Thursday, June 11 at 11:30 a.m. at the Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee. Read more: BizTimes.com
Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce Business Expo kicked off Wednesday
Businesses and the public filled Arkansas State University's Convocation Center for the annual Chamber of Commerce Business Expo Wednesday.
Over 250 businesses jumped into the 1980s theme to put their business on display for the public.
Cari White with the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce said the expo is a great opportunity for exposure.
“We've got a full house this year with all the businesses in Jonesboro who'll be showing off their wares and their new products all the way from industries to small businesses,” White said.
Jenny Keller with the United Way said the expo is a wonderful networking opportunity for business owners.
“Definitely networking and meeting new people and then relationships with people we already have and just seeing everybody,” Keller said. “It's so good to see all businesses come together for Jonesboro and I feel like that's what this business expo does.” Read more: KAIT8.com
Chamber interest: Elgin leaders plan bowling bash for at-risk youth
Several members of the Elgin Area Leadership Academy are throwing a bowling bash Tuesday for at-risk youths during spring break.
A team of five leadership academy
participants will treat 12 youths from the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin
to bowling from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elgin Lanes. The youths will receive
career advice during one-on-one mentoring sessions and awards marking
their achievements.
The party is a reward for their
good grades and behavior, said Toya Webb, a leadership academy
participant and a certified professional life coach.
"We wanted to recognize students for their hard work, build healthy self-esteem and motivate them to succeed," she said.
The Boys and Girls Club of Elgin
serves more than 500 at-risk youths, ages 6 to 18 years, daily through
after-school programs offered at seven sites. Programs include arts,

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Kentucky Education Council hosted the 2015 Excellence in Education Celebration on Thursday evening, recognizing the investment in excellence from students, teachers, principals, superintendents, business leaders and community partners across the region. This was the fourteenth year for the regional education dinner.
The celebration was an opportunity for key stakeholders to not only recognize excellence but also leverage resources and continue the collaboration necessary for regional success. With just over 600 people in attendance, this was the largest gathering in Northern Kentucky focused on celebrating excellence in education and is an exemplary example of the power of collective impact.
Dr. Randy Poe, Boone County Schools superintendent, was presented with the prestigious Northern Kentucky Education Council Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honors an individual in the Northern Kentucky community who has provided and assumed leadership in the education community, collaborated with other sectors and organizations in the community and focused on improving student achievement by advocating for initiatives that promote excellence in education for students in Northern Kentucky. This year, two home schooled students were also a part of the program.
