Ernie Banks, Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame Legend and Goodwill Ambassador to get Presidential Medal of Freedom

Ernie Banks said nine years ago that his ultimate goal in life was to become the first former professionalathlete to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
For now, the Baseball Hall of Fame infielder from the Chicago Cubs gladly will settle for the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the nation’s highest civilian honor

Chicago Sun-Times: Ernie Banks honored that he’ll receive Presidential Medal of Freedom from loyal White Sox fan Obama


Cubs legend Ernie Banks has known President Obama since attending a reception the day before Obama announced his candidacy for the 2008 presidential race. And he still can’t get him to go to Wrigley Field or wear a Cubs jacket, he said.
“What I learned from him in that is the loyalty that he has,” Banks said Tuesday. “He followed the White Sox, that’s his team, and that’s it.”
